1 T o the Overseer. -- A Psalm by David. Jehovah, Thou hast searched me, and knowest.

«Al maestro del coro. Salmo di Davide.» Tu mi hai investigato, o Eterno e mi conosci.

2 T hou -- Thou hast known my sitting down, And my rising up, Thou hast attended to my thoughts from afar.

Tu sai quando mi siedo e quando mi alzo, tu intendi il mio pensiero da lontano.

3 M y path and my couch Thou hast fanned, And all my ways hast been acquainted.

Tu esamini accuratamente il mio cammino e il mio riposo e conosci a fondo tutte le mie vie.

4 F or there is not a word in my tongue, Lo, O Jehovah, Thou hast known it all!

Poiché prima ancora che la parola sia sulla mia bocca tu, o Eterno, la conosci appieno.

5 B ehind and before Thou hast besieged me, And Thou dost place on me Thy hand.

Tu mi cingi di dietro e davanti e metti la tua mano su di me.

6 K nowledge too wonderful for me, It hath been set on high, I am not able for it.

La tua conoscenza è troppo sublime per me talmente alta che non posso raggiungerla.

7 W hither do I go from Thy Spirit? And whither from Thy face do I flee?

Dove potrei andare lontano dal tuo Spirito, o dove potrei fuggire lontano dalla tua presenza?

8 I f I ascend the heavens -- there Thou, And spread out a couch in Sheol, lo, Thee!

Se salgo in cielo, tu sei là; se stendo il mio letto nello Sceol, ecco, tu sei anche là.

9 I take the wings of morning, I dwell in the uttermost part of the sea,

Se prendo le ali dell'alba e vado a dimorare all'estremità del mare,

10 A lso there Thy hand doth lead me, And Thy right hand doth hold me.

anche là la tua mano mi guiderà e la tua destra mi afferrerà.

11 A nd I say, `Surely darkness bruiseth me, Then night light to me.

Se dico: «Certo le tenebre mi nasconderanno», persino la notte diventerà luce intorno a me;

12 A lso darkness hideth not from Thee, And night as day shineth, as darkness so light.

le tenebre stesse non possono nasconderti nulla, anzi la notte risplende come il giorno; le tenebre e la luce, sono uguali per te.

13 F or Thou -- Thou hast possessed my reins, Thou dost cover me in my mother's belly.

Sí, tu hai formato le mie interiora, tu mi hai intessuto nel grembo di mia madre.

14 I confess Thee, because that wonders I have been distinguished. Wonderful Thy works, And my soul is knowing well.

Io ti celebrerò, perché sono stato fatto in modo stupendo; le tue opere, sono meravigliose, e io lo so molto bene.

15 M y substance was not hid from Thee, When I was made in secret, Curiously wrought in the lower part of earth.

Le mie ossa non ti erano nascoste quando fui formato in segreto e intessuto nelle profondità della terra.

16 M ine unformed substance Thine eyes saw, And on Thy book all of them are written, The days they were formed -- And not one among them.

I tuoi occhi videro la massa informe del mio corpo, e nel tuo libro erano già scritti tutti i giorni che erano stati fissati per me anche se nessuno di essi esisteva ancora.

17 A nd to me how precious have been Thy thoughts, O God, how great hath been their sum!

Oh, quanto mi sono preziosi i tuoi pensieri o DIO! Quanto grande è l'intero loro numero!

18 I recount them! than the sand they are more, I have waked, and I am still with Thee.

Se li volessi contare, sarebbero più numerosi della sabbia; quando mi sveglio sono ancora con te.

19 D ost Thou slay, O God, the wicked? Then, men of blood, turn aside from me!

Certamente tu ucciderai l'empio o DIO; perciò voi, uomini di sangue, allontanatevi da me.

20 W ho exchange Thee for wickedness, Lifted up to vanity Thine enemies.

Essi parlano contro di te perfidamente, i tuoi nemici fanno uso del tuo nome invano.

21 D o not I hate, Jehovah, those hating Thee? And with Thy withstanders grieve myself?

Non odio forse quelli che ti odiano, o Eterno, e non detesto quelli che si levano contro di te?

22 p erfect hatred I have hated them, Enemies they have become to me.

Io li odio di un odio perfetto, essi son divenuti miei nemici.

23 S earch me, O God, and know my heart, Try me, and know my thoughts,

Investigami, O DIO, e conosci il mio cuore; provami e conosci i miei pensieri;

24 A nd see if a grievous way be in me, And lead me in a way age-during!

e vedi se vi è in me alcuna via iniqua, e guidami per la via eterna.
