1 ` In the third year of the reign of Belshazzar the king, a vision hath appeared unto me -- I Daniel -- after that which had appeared unto me at the beginning.

Nel terzo anno di regno del re Belshatsar, io, Daniele, ebbi una visione, dopo quella avuta all'inizio del regno.

2 A nd I see in a vision, and it cometh to pass, in my seeing, and I in Shushan the palace that in Elam the province, and I see in a vision, and I have been by the stream Ulai.

Or vidi in visione e, mentre guardavo, mi avvenne di trovarmi nella cittadella di Susa, che è nella provincia di Elam, nella visione mi resi conto di essere presso il fiume Ulai.

3 A nd I lift up mine eyes, and look, and lo, a certain ram is standing before the stream, and it hath two horns, and the two horns high; and the one higher than the other, and the high one is coming up last.

Alzai gli occhi e guardai, ed ecco, in piedi davanti al fiume un montone che aveva due corna; le due corna erano alte ma un corno era piú alto dell'altro, anche se il piú alto era spuntato per ultimo.

4 I have seen the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward, and no living creatures do stand before it, and there is none delivering out of its hand, and it hath done according to its pleasure, and hath exerted itself.

Vidi il montone che cozzava a ovest a nord e a sud; nessuna bestia gli poteva resistere, né alcuno poteva liberare dal suo potere; cosí fece quel che volle e diventò grande.

5 ` And I have been considering, and lo, a young he-goat hath come from the west, over the face of the whole earth, whom none is touching in the earth; as to the young he-goat, a conspicuous horn between its eyes.

Mentre consideravo questo ecco venire dall'ovest un capro, che percorreva tutta la superficie della terra senza toccare il suolo, il capro aveva un corno cospicuo fra i suoi occhi.

6 A nd it cometh unto the ram possessing the two horns, that I had seen standing before the stream, and runneth unto it in the fury of its power.

Giunse fino al montone dalle due corna, che avevo visto in piedi davanti al fiume, e gli si avventò contro nel furore della sua forza.

7 A nd I have seen it coming near the ram, and it becometh embittered at it, and smiteth the ram, and breaketh its two horns, and there hath been no power in the ram to stand before it, and it casteth it to the earth, and trampleth it down, and there hath been no deliverer to the ram out of its power.

Lo vidi avvicinarsi e montare in collera contro di lui, cozzò quindi contro il montone e frantumò le sue due corna, senza che il montone avesse forza per resistergli; cosí lo gettò a terra e lo calpestò, e nessuno potè liberare il montone dal suo potere.

8 ` And the young he-goat hath exerted itself very much, and when it is strong, broken hath been the great horn; and come up doth a vision of four in its place, at the four winds of the heavens.

Il capro diventò molto grande; ma, quando fu potente, il suo gran corno si spezzò, al suo posto spuntarono quattro corna cospicue, verso i quattro venti del cielo.

9 A nd from the one of them come forth hath a little horn, and it exerteth itself greatly toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the beauteous;

Da uno di questi uscí un piccolo corno, che diventò molto grande verso sud, verso est e verso il paese glorioso.

10 y ea, it exerteth unto the host of the heavens, and causeth to fall to the earth of the host, and of the stars, and trampleth them down.

Si ingrandí fino a giungere all'esercito del cielo, fece cadere in terra parte dell'esercito e delle stelle e le calpestò.

11 A nd unto the prince of the host it exerteth itself, and by it taken away hath been the continual, and thrown down the base of his sanctuary.

Si innalzò addirittura fino al capo dell'esercito, gli tolse il sacrificio continuo e il luogo del suo santuario fu abbattuto.

12 A nd the host is given up, with the continual, through transgression, and it throweth down truth to the earth, and it hath worked, and prospered.

L'esercito gli fu dato in mano assieme al sacrificio continuo, a motivo della trasgressione; egli gettò a terra la verità; fece tutto questo e prosperò.

13 ` And I hear a certain holy one speaking, and a certain holy one saith to the wonderful numberer who is speaking: Till when the vision of the continual, and of the transgression, an astonishment, to make both sanctuary and host a treading down?

Poi udii un santo che parlava, e un altro santo disse a quello che parlava: «Fino a quando durerà la visione del sacrificio continuo e la trasgressione della desolazione, che abbandona il luogo santo e l'esercito ad essere calpestati?».

14 A nd he saith unto me, Till evening -- morning two thousand and three hundred, then is the holy place declared right.

Egli mi disse: «Fino a duemilatrecento giorni; poi il santuario sarà purificato».

15 ` And it cometh to pass in my seeing -- I, Daniel -- the vision, that I require understanding, and lo, standing over-against me as the appearance of a mighty one.

Ora, mentre io, Daniele, consideravo la visione e cercavo d'intenderla ecco stare davanti a me uno dall'aspetto di uomo.

16 A nd I hear a voice of man between Ulai, and he calleth and saith: Gabriel, cause this to understand the appearance.

Udii quindi in mezzo al fiume Ulai la voce di un uomo, che gridava e diceva: «Gabriele, spiega a costui la visione».

17 A nd he cometh in near my station, and at his coming in I have been afraid, and I fall on my face, and he saith unto me: Understand, son of man, for at the time of the end the vision.

Egli si avvicinò al luogo dove mi trovavo e, quando giunse, io ebbi paura e caddi sulla mia faccia. Ma egli mi disse: «Intendi bene, o figlio d'uomo, perché questa visione riguarda il tempo della fine».

18 A nd in his speaking with me, I have been in a trance on my face, on the earth; and he cometh against me, and causeth me to stand on my station,

Mentre egli parlava con me, caddi in un profondo sonno con la faccia terra, ma egli mi toccò e mi fece alzare in piedi nel luogo dove mi trovavo.

19 a nd saith: Lo, I -- I am causing thee to know that which is in the latter end of the indignation; for, at the appointed time the end.

E disse: «Ecco, io ti faccio conoscere ciò che avverrà nell'ultimo tempo dell'indignazione, perché riguarda il tempo fissato della fine.

20 ` The ram that thou hast seen possessing two horns, the kings of Media and Persia.

Il montone con due corna, che tu hai visto, rappresenta i re di Media e di Persia.

21 A nd the young he-goat, the hairy one, the king of Javan; and the great horn that between its eyes is the first king;

Il capro peloso è il re di Javan; e il gran corno che era in mezzo ai suoi occhi è il primo re.

22 a nd that being broken, stand up do four in its place, four kingdoms from the nation do stand up, and not in its power.

Il corno spezzato e le quattro corna che sono sorte al suo posto sono quattro regni che sorgeranno da questa nazione, ma non con la stessa sua potenza.

23 ` And in the latter end of their kingdom, about the perfecting of the transgressors, stand up doth a king, fierce of face, and understanding hidden things;

Alla fine del loro regno, quando i ribelli avranno colmato la misura, sorgerà un re dall'aspetto feroce ed esperto in stratagemmi.

24 a nd his power hath been mighty, and not by his own power; and wonderful things he destroyeth, and he hath prospered, and wrought, and destroyed mighty ones, and the people of the Holy Ones.

La sua potenza crescerà, ma non per sua propria forza; compirà sorprendenti rovine, prospererà nelle sue imprese e distruggerà i potenti e il popolo dei santi.

25 ` And by his understanding he hath also caused deceit to prosper in his hand, and in his heart he exerteth himself, and by ease he destroyeth many; and against the prince of princes he standeth -- and without hand he is broken.

Per la sua astuzia farà prosperare la frode nelle sue mani; si innalzerà nel suo cuore e distruggerà molti che stanno al sicuro; insorgerà contro il principe dei principi, ma sarà infranto senza mano d'uomo.

26 A nd the appearance of the evening and of the morning, that is told, is true; and thou, hide thou the vision, for after many days.'

La visione delle sere e delle mattine di cui è stato parlato, è vera. Tu tieni segreta la visione, perché riguarda cose che avverranno fra molto tempo».

27 A nd I, Daniel, have been, yea, I became sick days, and I rise, and do the king's work, and am astonished at the appearance, and there is none understanding.

E io, Daniele, mi sentii sfinito e fui malato per vari giorni, poi mi alzai e sbrigai gli affari del re. Io ero stupito della visione, ma nessuno se ne avvide.
