1 ` In the third year of the reign of Belshazzar the king, a vision hath appeared unto me -- I Daniel -- after that which had appeared unto me at the beginning.

En el año tercero del reinado del rey Belsasar, yo, Daniel, tuve una visión, además de la que antes había tenido.

2 A nd I see in a vision, and it cometh to pass, in my seeing, and I in Shushan the palace that in Elam the province, and I see in a vision, and I have been by the stream Ulai.

En esa visión, vi que estaba yo en las márgenes del río Ulay, en Susa, que es la capital del reino, en la provincia de Elam.

3 A nd I lift up mine eyes, and look, and lo, a certain ram is standing before the stream, and it hath two horns, and the two horns high; and the one higher than the other, and the high one is coming up last.

Al levantar la vista, allí junto al río vi un carnero. Tenía dos cuernos muy largos, aunque uno de ellos era más largo que el otro y le había crecido después.

4 I have seen the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward, and no living creatures do stand before it, and there is none delivering out of its hand, and it hath done according to its pleasure, and hath exerted itself.

Vi también que el carnero embestía con sus cuernos hacia el poniente, el norte y el sur, y que ninguna bestia podía enfrentársele ni librarse de su poder; hacía todo lo que quería, y se ufanaba de ello.

5 ` And I have been considering, and lo, a young he-goat hath come from the west, over the face of the whole earth, whom none is touching in the earth; as to the young he-goat, a conspicuous horn between its eyes.

Mientras yo trataba de entender esto, por el lado poniente apareció un macho cabrío, que sin siquiera tocar el suelo se dispuso a atacar toda la tierra. Tenía entre los ojos un cuerno muy prominente.

6 A nd it cometh unto the ram possessing the two horns, that I had seen standing before the stream, and runneth unto it in the fury of its power.

Cuando llegó adonde estaba el carnero de dos cuernos, que yo había visto en la ribera del río, se lanzó contra él con todas sus fuerzas.

7 A nd I have seen it coming near the ram, and it becometh embittered at it, and smiteth the ram, and breaketh its two horns, and there hath been no power in the ram to stand before it, and it casteth it to the earth, and trampleth it down, and there hath been no deliverer to the ram out of its power.

Yo vi cuando llegó hasta el carnero y lo atacó; lo hirió y le quebró sus dos cuernos, y el carnero no tenía fuerzas para hacerle frente, así que lo derribó y lo pisoteó, y no hubo nadie que lo librara de su poder.

8 ` And the young he-goat hath exerted itself very much, and when it is strong, broken hath been the great horn; and come up doth a vision of four in its place, at the four winds of the heavens.

Y este macho cabrío se hizo muy poderoso; pero en la cumbre de su poder se le quebró el cuerno más largo, y en su lugar salieron otros cuatro cuernos de gran tamaño, que se lanzaron contra los cuatro vientos del cielo.

9 A nd from the one of them come forth hath a little horn, and it exerteth itself greatly toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the beauteous;

De uno de ellos salió un cuerno pequeño, que creció mucho hacia el sur, hacia el oriente, y hacia la tierra gloriosa.

10 y ea, it exerteth unto the host of the heavens, and causeth to fall to the earth of the host, and of the stars, and trampleth them down.

Tan grande llegó a ser que desafió al ejército del cielo, y hasta echó por tierra y pisoteó a parte de ese ejército y de las estrellas.

11 A nd unto the prince of the host it exerteth itself, and by it taken away hath been the continual, and thrown down the base of his sanctuary.

Incluso desafió al príncipe de los ejércitos, y por causa de él se suspendió el sacrificio continuo y se echó por tierra el lugar del santuario.

12 A nd the host is given up, with the continual, through transgression, and it throweth down truth to the earth, and it hath worked, and prospered.

Por causa del pecado del pueblo le fue entregado el ejército, junto con el continuo sacrificio; y echó por tierra la verdad, e hizo cuanto quiso, y en todo prosperó.

13 ` And I hear a certain holy one speaking, and a certain holy one saith to the wonderful numberer who is speaking: Till when the vision of the continual, and of the transgression, an astonishment, to make both sanctuary and host a treading down?

Entonces oí que uno de los santos hablaba, y que otro de los santos le preguntaba: «¿Hasta cuándo durará la visión del sacrificio continuo, y el pecado desolador de permitir que el santuario y el ejército sean pisoteados?»

14 A nd he saith unto me, Till evening -- morning two thousand and three hundred, then is the holy place declared right.

Y aquél dijo: «Hasta que hayan pasado dos mil trescientas tardes y mañanas. Después de eso, el santuario será purificado.»

15 ` And it cometh to pass in my seeing -- I, Daniel -- the vision, that I require understanding, and lo, standing over-against me as the appearance of a mighty one.

Mientras yo, Daniel, contemplaba esta visión y trataba de entenderla, apareció ante mí alguien con apariencia humana.

16 A nd I hear a voice of man between Ulai, and he calleth and saith: Gabriel, cause this to understand the appearance.

Entonces, desde las márgenes del río Ulay oí la voz de un hombre que gritaba: «¡Gabriel, explícale a éste la visión!»

17 A nd he cometh in near my station, and at his coming in I have been afraid, and I fall on my face, and he saith unto me: Understand, son of man, for at the time of the end the vision.

Gabriel se acercó a mí, lo cual me llenó de temor, así que incliné mi rostro. Pero Gabriel me dijo: «Debes entender, hijo de hombre, que la visión se refiere a los últimos tiempos.»

18 A nd in his speaking with me, I have been in a trance on my face, on the earth; and he cometh against me, and causeth me to stand on my station,

Mientras Gabriel me hablaba, yo me quedé dormido y boca abajo. Pero Gabriel me tocó y me hizo ponerme de pie.

19 a nd saith: Lo, I -- I am causing thee to know that which is in the latter end of the indignation; for, at the appointed time the end.

Entonces dijo: «Presta atención, que voy a enseñarte lo que sucederá cuando cese la ira de Dios. Esto es para el tiempo del fin.

20 ` The ram that thou hast seen possessing two horns, the kings of Media and Persia.

Tú viste un carnero con dos cuernos; esos dos cuernos son los reyes de Media y de Persia,

21 A nd the young he-goat, the hairy one, the king of Javan; and the great horn that between its eyes is the first king;

y el macho cabrío es el rey de Grecia. El cuerno grande que tenía entre los ojos es el primer rey.

22 a nd that being broken, stand up do four in its place, four kingdoms from the nation do stand up, and not in its power.

El cuerno que fue quebrado, y los cuatro cuernos que salieron en su lugar, significa que de esa nación surgirán cuatro reinos, aunque no tan fuertes como ella.

23 ` And in the latter end of their kingdom, about the perfecting of the transgressors, stand up doth a king, fierce of face, and understanding hidden things;

Cuando estos reinos lleguen a su fin y los pecadores lleguen al colmo de su maldad, se levantará un rey despótico e intrigante.

24 a nd his power hath been mighty, and not by his own power; and wonderful things he destroyeth, and he hath prospered, and wrought, and destroyed mighty ones, and the people of the Holy Ones.

Llegará a tener mucho poder, pero no por méritos propios, y causará grandes daños, pues actuará de manera arbitraria; será tal su éxito que destruirá a pueblos poderosos y al pueblo de los santos.

25 ` And by his understanding he hath also caused deceit to prosper in his hand, and in his heart he exerteth himself, and by ease he destroyeth many; and against the prince of princes he standeth -- and without hand he is broken.

Sus hechos llevarán la marca de la astucia y del engaño; se llenará de soberbia y arteramente destruirá a muchos pueblos, y desafiará al Príncipe de los príncipes. Pero será derrotado, y no por la intervención humana.

26 A nd the appearance of the evening and of the morning, that is told, is true; and thou, hide thou the vision, for after many days.'

La visión que tuviste de las tardes y mañanas es verdadera, pero tú debes mantenerla en secreto porque aún falta mucho tiempo.»

27 A nd I, Daniel, have been, yea, I became sick days, and I rise, and do the king's work, and am astonished at the appearance, and there is none understanding.

Yo, Daniel, me quedé sin fuerzas, y durante algún tiempo estuve enfermo. Una vez restablecido, volví a ocuparme de los negocios del rey, aunque me quedé espantado por causa de la visión, pues no la entendía.
