1 A nd it cometh to pass, when all the nation hath completed to pass over the Jordan, that Jehovah speaketh unto Joshua, saying,

Cuando toda la gente terminó de cruzar el Jordán, el Señor le dijo a Josué:

2 ` Take for you out of the people twelve men, one man -- one man out of a tribe;

«Elijan ustedes de entre el pueblo doce hombres, uno por cada tribu,

3 a nd command ye them, saying, Take up for you from this, from the midst of the Jordan, from the established standing-place of the feet of the priests, twelve stones, and ye have removed them over with you, and placed them in the lodging-place in which ye lodge to-night.'

y díganles que tomen doce piedras de en medio del Jordán, de donde están parados los sacerdotes, y que se las lleven y las pongan donde van a pasar la noche.»

4 A nd Joshua calleth unto the twelve men whom he prepared out of the sons of Israel, one man -- one man out of a tribe;

Josué llamó entonces a los doce hombres que había escogido de entre los hijos de Israel, uno por cada tribu,

5 a nd Joshua saith to them, `Pass over before the ark of Jehovah your God unto the midst of the Jordan and lift up for you each, one stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel,

y les dijo: «Pasen ahora delante del arca del Señor nuestro Dios, hasta la mitad del Jordán, y tome cada uno de ustedes una piedra y échesela al hombro, una por cada tribu de los hijos de Israel.

6 s o that this is a sign in your midst, when your children ask hereafter, saying, What these stones to you?

Cada una de ellas será una señal. Y el día de mañana, cuando los hijos les pregunten a sus padres qué significan estas piedras,

7 t hat ye have said to them, Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off, at the presence of the ark of the covenant of Jehovah; in its passing over into the Jordan were the waters of the Jordan cut off; and these stones have been for a memorial to the sons of Israel -- to the age.'

ellos les responderán: “Cuando el pueblo cruzó el Jordán, las aguas del río se partieron en dos delante del arca del pacto del Señor. Así que estas piedras son para que los hijos de Israel recuerden siempre lo que aquí pasó.”»

8 A nd the sons of Israel do so as Joshua commanded, and take up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, as Jehovah hath spoken unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel, and remove them over with them unto the lodging-place, and place them there,

Los hijos de Israel hicieron lo que Josué les mandó, tal y como el Señor se lo había dicho a Josué: tomaron doce piedras de en medio del Jordán, conforme al número de las tribus de los hijos de Israel, y las llevaron al lugar donde iban a acampar, y allí las pusieron.

9 e ven the twelve stones hath Joshua raised up out of the midst of the Jordan, the place of the standing of the feet of the priests bearing the ark of the covenant, and they are there unto this day.

Además, Josué tomó otras doce piedras de en medio del Jordán, de donde los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca del pacto plantaron sus pies, y las levantó como monumento. Hasta el día de hoy las piedras están allí.

10 A nd the priests bearing the ark are standing in the midst of the Jordan till the completion of the whole thing which Jehovah commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua, and the people haste and pass over.

Los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca se pararon en medio del Jordán hasta que el pueblo hizo todo lo que el Señor le había ordenado a Josué, cumpliendo así con todo lo que Moisés le había mandado hacer. El pueblo se apresuró a cruzar el río.

11 A nd it cometh to pass when all the people have completed to pass over, that the ark of Jehovah passeth over, and the priests, in the presence of the people;

En cuanto el pueblo todo terminó de cruzar, cruzaron también el arca del Señor y los sacerdotes, en presencia del pueblo.

12 a nd the sons of Reuben, and the sons of Gad, and the half of the tribe of Manasseh, pass over, by fifties, before the sons of Israel, as Moses had spoken unto them;

Delante de Israel pasaron también los hijos de Rubén y de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés, que iban armados en obediencia a lo que Moisés les había dicho.

13 a bout forty thousand, armed ones of the host, passed over before Jehovah for battle, unto the plains of Jericho.

Eran como cuarenta mil hombres armados y listos para la guerra, Pasaron delante del Señor y se dirigieron a la llanura de Jericó.

14 O n that day hath Jehovah made Joshua great in the eyes of all Israel, and they reverence him, as they reverenced Moses, all days of his life.

Ese día el Señor le dio plena autoridad a Josué delante de todo Israel. Y ellos lo respetaron durante toda su vida, como antes habían respetado a Moisés.

15 A nd Jehovah speaketh unto Joshua, saying,

El Señor le dijo a Josué:

16 ` Command the priests bearing the ark of the testimony, and they come up out of the Jordan.'

«Ordena a los sacerdotes que llevan el arca del testimonio, que salgan del Jordán.»

17 A nd Joshua commandeth the priests, saying, `Come ye up out of the Jordan.'

Y Josué les dio a los sacerdotes la orden de salir del Jordán,

18 A nd it cometh to pass, in the coming up of the priests bearing the ark of the covenant of Jehovah out of the midst of the Jordan -- the soles of the feet of the priests have been drawn up into the dry ground -- and the waters of the Jordan turn back to their place, and go as heretofore over all its banks.

y cuando los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca del pacto del Señor salieron de en medio del Jordán, y pisaron tierra seca, las aguas volvieron a su cauce y siguieron corriendo y desbordándose como antes.

19 A nd the people have come up out of the Jordan on the tenth of the first month, and encamp in Gilgal, in the extremity east of Jericho;

El pueblo cruzó el Jordán el día diez del mes primero, y acampó en Gilgal, en el extremo oriental de Jericó.

20 a nd these twelve stones, which they have taken out of the Jordan, hath Joshua raised up in Gilgal.

Allí en Gilgal, Josué levantó las doce piedras que habían tomado del Jordán,

21 A nd he speaketh unto the sons of Israel, saying, `When your sons ask their fathers hereafter, saying, What these stones?

y les habló a los hijos de Israel de esta manera: «El día de mañana, cuando los hijos pregunten a sus padres qué es lo que significan estas piedras,

22 t hen ye have caused your sons to know, saying, On dry land Israel passed over this Jordan;

ustedes les harán saber que Israel cruzó este río sin mojarse los pies,

23 b ecause Jehovah your God dried up the waters of the Jordan at your presence, till your passing over, as Jehovah your God did to the Red Sea which He dried up at our presence till our passing over;

porque el Señor nuestro Dios secó el río mientras nosotros lo cruzábamos, tal y como lo hizo con el Mar Rojo, que también lo secó delante de nosotros, hasta que lo cruzamos.

24 s o that all the people of the land do know the hand of Jehovah that it strong, so that ye have reverenced Jehovah your God all the days.'

Lo hizo así, para que todos los pueblos de la tierra sepan que la mano del Señor es poderosa, y para que ustedes honren siempre al Señor nuestro Dios.»
