1 A nd it cometh to pass, when all the nation hath completed to pass over the Jordan, that Jehovah speaketh unto Joshua, saying,

Lorsque toute la nation eut achevé de passer le Jourdain, l'Éternel dit à Josué:

2 ` Take for you out of the people twelve men, one man -- one man out of a tribe;

Prenez douze hommes parmi le peuple, un homme de chaque tribu.

3 a nd command ye them, saying, Take up for you from this, from the midst of the Jordan, from the established standing-place of the feet of the priests, twelve stones, and ye have removed them over with you, and placed them in the lodging-place in which ye lodge to-night.'

Donnez-leur cet ordre: Enlevez d'ici, du milieu du Jourdain, de la place où les sacrificateurs se sont arrêtés de pied ferme, douze pierres, que vous emporterez avec vous, et que vous déposerez dans le lieu où vous passerez cette nuit.

4 A nd Joshua calleth unto the twelve men whom he prepared out of the sons of Israel, one man -- one man out of a tribe;

Josué appela les douze hommes qu'il choisit parmi les enfants d'Israël, un homme de chaque tribu.

5 a nd Joshua saith to them, `Pass over before the ark of Jehovah your God unto the midst of the Jordan and lift up for you each, one stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel,

Il leur dit: Passez devant l'arche de l'Éternel, votre Dieu, au milieu du Jourdain, et que chacun de vous charge une pierre sur son épaule, selon le nombre des tribus des enfants d'Israël,

6 s o that this is a sign in your midst, when your children ask hereafter, saying, What these stones to you?

afin que cela soit un signe au milieu de vous. Lorsque vos enfants demanderont un jour: Que signifient pour vous ces pierres?

7 t hat ye have said to them, Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off, at the presence of the ark of the covenant of Jehovah; in its passing over into the Jordan were the waters of the Jordan cut off; and these stones have been for a memorial to the sons of Israel -- to the age.'

vous leur direz: Les eaux du Jourdain ont été coupées devant l'arche de l'alliance de l'Éternel; lorsqu'elle passa le Jourdain, les eaux du Jourdain ont été coupées, et ces pierres seront à jamais un souvenir pour les enfants d'Israël.

8 A nd the sons of Israel do so as Joshua commanded, and take up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, as Jehovah hath spoken unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel, and remove them over with them unto the lodging-place, and place them there,

Les enfants d'Israël firent ce que Josué leur avait ordonné. Ils enlevèrent douze pierres du milieu du Jourdain, comme l'Éternel l'avait dit à Josué, selon le nombre des tribus des enfants d'Israël, ils les emportèrent avec eux, et les déposèrent dans le lieu où ils devaient passer la nuit.

9 e ven the twelve stones hath Joshua raised up out of the midst of the Jordan, the place of the standing of the feet of the priests bearing the ark of the covenant, and they are there unto this day.

Josué dressa aussi douze pierres au milieu du Jourdain, à la place où s'étaient arrêtés les pieds des sacrificateurs qui portaient l'arche de l'alliance; et elles y sont restées jusqu'à ce jour.

10 A nd the priests bearing the ark are standing in the midst of the Jordan till the completion of the whole thing which Jehovah commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua, and the people haste and pass over.

Les sacrificateurs qui portaient l'arche se tinrent au milieu du Jourdain jusqu'à l'entière exécution de ce que l'Éternel avait ordonné à Josué de dire au peuple, selon tout ce que Moïse avait prescrit à Josué. Et le peuple se hâta de passer.

11 A nd it cometh to pass when all the people have completed to pass over, that the ark of Jehovah passeth over, and the priests, in the presence of the people;

Lorsque tout le peuple eut achevé de passer, l'arche de l'Éternel et les sacrificateurs passèrent devant le peuple.

12 a nd the sons of Reuben, and the sons of Gad, and the half of the tribe of Manasseh, pass over, by fifties, before the sons of Israel, as Moses had spoken unto them;

Les fils de Ruben, les fils de Gad, et la demi-tribu de Manassé, passèrent en armes devant les enfants d'Israël, comme Moïse le leur avait dit.

13 a bout forty thousand, armed ones of the host, passed over before Jehovah for battle, unto the plains of Jericho.

Environ quarante mille hommes, équipés pour la guerre et prêts à combattre, passèrent devant l'Éternel dans les plaines de Jéricho.

14 O n that day hath Jehovah made Joshua great in the eyes of all Israel, and they reverence him, as they reverenced Moses, all days of his life.

En ce jour-là, l'Éternel éleva Josué aux yeux de tout Israël; et ils le craignirent, comme ils avaient craint Moïse, tous les jours de sa vie.

15 A nd Jehovah speaketh unto Joshua, saying,

L'Éternel dit à Josué:

16 ` Command the priests bearing the ark of the testimony, and they come up out of the Jordan.'

Ordonne aux sacrificateurs qui portent l'arche du témoignage de sortir du Jourdain.

17 A nd Joshua commandeth the priests, saying, `Come ye up out of the Jordan.'

Et Josué donna cet ordre aux sacrificateurs: Sortez du Jourdain.

18 A nd it cometh to pass, in the coming up of the priests bearing the ark of the covenant of Jehovah out of the midst of the Jordan -- the soles of the feet of the priests have been drawn up into the dry ground -- and the waters of the Jordan turn back to their place, and go as heretofore over all its banks.

Lorsque les sacrificateurs qui portaient l'arche de l'alliance de l'Éternel furent sortis du milieu du Jourdain, et que la plante de leurs pieds se posa sur le sec, les eaux du Jourdain retournèrent à leur place, et se répandirent comme auparavant sur tous ses bords.

19 A nd the people have come up out of the Jordan on the tenth of the first month, and encamp in Gilgal, in the extremity east of Jericho;

Le peuple sortit du Jourdain le dixième jour du premier mois, et il campa à Guilgal, à l'extrémité orientale de Jéricho.

20 a nd these twelve stones, which they have taken out of the Jordan, hath Joshua raised up in Gilgal.

Josué dressa à Guilgal les douze pierres qu'ils avaient prises du Jourdain.

21 A nd he speaketh unto the sons of Israel, saying, `When your sons ask their fathers hereafter, saying, What these stones?

Il dit aux enfants d'Israël: Lorsque vos enfants demanderont un jour à leurs pères: Que signifient ces pierres?

22 t hen ye have caused your sons to know, saying, On dry land Israel passed over this Jordan;

vous en instruirez vos enfants, et vous direz: Israël a passé ce Jourdain à sec.

23 b ecause Jehovah your God dried up the waters of the Jordan at your presence, till your passing over, as Jehovah your God did to the Red Sea which He dried up at our presence till our passing over;

Car l'Éternel, votre Dieu, a mis à sec devant vous les eaux du Jourdain jusqu'à ce que vous eussiez passé, comme l'Éternel, votre Dieu, l'avait fait à la mer Rouge, qu'il mit à sec devant nous jusqu'à ce que nous eussions passé,

24 s o that all the people of the land do know the hand of Jehovah that it strong, so that ye have reverenced Jehovah your God all the days.'

afin que tous les peuples de la terre sachent que la main de l'Éternel est puissante, et afin que vous ayez toujours la crainte de l'Éternel, votre Dieu.
