1 A nd Jehovah saith unto Abram, `Go for thyself, from thy land, and from thy kindred, and from the house of thy father, unto the land which I shew thee.

L'Éternel dit à Abram: Va-t-en de ton pays, de ta patrie, et de la maison de ton père, dans le pays que je te montrerai.

2 A nd I make thee become a great nation, and bless thee, and make thy name great; and be thou a blessing.

Je ferai de toi une grande nation, et je te bénirai; je rendrai ton nom grand, et tu seras une source de bénédiction.

3 A nd I bless those blessing thee, and him who is disesteeming thee I curse, and blessed in thee have been all families of the ground.'

Je bénirai ceux qui te béniront, et je maudirai ceux qui te maudiront; et toutes les familles de la terre seront bénies en toi.

4 A nd Abram goeth on, as Jehovah hath spoken unto him, and Lot goeth with him, and Abram a son of five and seventy years in his going out from Charan.

Abram partit, comme l'Éternel le lui avait dit, et Lot partit avec lui. Abram était âgé de soixante-quinze ans, lorsqu'il sortit de Charan.

5 A nd Abram taketh Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they have gained, and the persons that they have obtained in Charan; and they go out to go towards the land of Canaan; and they come in to the land of Canaan.

Abram prit Saraï, sa femme, et Lot, fils de son frère, avec tous les biens qu'ils possédaient et les serviteurs qu'ils avaient acquis à Charan. Ils partirent pour aller dans le pays de Canaan, et ils arrivèrent au pays de Canaan.

6 A nd Abram passeth over into the land, unto the place Shechem, unto the oak of Moreh; and the Canaanite then in the land.

Abram parcourut le pays jusqu'au lieu nommé Sichem, jusqu'aux chênes de Moré. Les Cananéens étaient alors dans le pays.

7 A nd Jehovah appeareth unto Abram, and saith, `To thy seed I give this land;' and he buildeth there an altar to Jehovah, who hath appeared unto him.

L'Éternel apparut à Abram, et dit: Je donnerai ce pays à ta postérité. Et Abram bâtit là un autel à l'Éternel, qui lui était apparu.

8 A nd he removeth from thence towards a mountain at the east of Beth-El, and stretcheth out the tent (Beth-El at the west, and Hai at the east), and he buildeth there an altar to Jehovah, and preacheth in the name of Jehovah.

Il se transporta de là vers la montagne, à l'orient de Béthel, et il dressa ses tentes, ayant Béthel à l'occident et Aï à l'orient. Il bâtit encore là un autel à l'Éternel, et il invoqua le nom de l'Éternel.

9 A nd Abram journeyeth, going on and journeying towards the south.

Abram continua ses marches, en s'avançant vers le midi.

10 A nd there is a famine in the land, and Abram goeth down towards Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine grievous in the land;

Il y eut une famine dans le pays; et Abram descendit en Égypte pour y séjourner, car la famine était grande dans le pays.

11 a nd it cometh to pass as he hath drawn near to enter Egypt, that he saith unto Sarai his wife, `Lo, I pray thee, I have known that thou a woman of beautiful appearance;

Comme il était près d'entrer en Égypte, il dit à Saraï, sa femme: Voici, je sais que tu es une femme belle de figure.

12 a nd it hath come to pass that the Egyptians see thee, and they have said, `This his wife,' and they have slain me, and thee they keep alive:

Quand les Égyptiens te verront, ils diront: C'est sa femme! Et ils me tueront, et te laisseront la vie.

13 s ay, I pray thee, thou my sister, so that it is well with me because of thee, and my soul hath lived for thy sake.'

Dis, je te prie, que tu es ma soeur, afin que je sois bien traité à cause de toi, et que mon âme vive grâce à toi.

14 A nd it cometh to pass, at the entering of Abram into Egypt, that the Egyptians see the woman that she exceeding fair;

Lorsque Abram fut arrivé en Égypte, les Égyptiens virent que la femme était fort belle.

15 a nd princes of Pharaoh see her, and praise her unto Pharaoh, and the woman is taken Pharaoh's house;

Les grands de Pharaon la virent aussi et la vantèrent à Pharaon; et la femme fut emmenée dans la maison de Pharaon.

16 a nd to Abram he hath done good because of her, and he hath sheep and oxen, and he-asses, and men-servants, and handmaids, and she-asses, and camels.

Il traita bien Abram à cause d'elle; et Abram reçut des brebis, des boeufs, des ânes, des serviteurs et des servantes, des ânesses, et des chameaux.

17 A nd Jehovah plagueth Pharaoh and his house -- great plagues -- for the matter of Sarai, Abram's wife.

Mais l'Éternel frappa de grandes plaies Pharaon et sa maison, au sujet de Saraï, femme d'Abram.

18 A nd Pharaoh calleth for Abram, and saith, `What this thou hast done to me? why hast thou not declared to me that she thy wife?

Alors Pharaon appela Abram, et dit: Qu'est-ce que tu m'as fait? Pourquoi ne m'as-tu pas déclaré que c'est ta femme?

19 W hy hast thou said, She my sister, and I take her to myself for a wife? and now, lo, thy wife, take and go.'

Pourquoi as-tu dit: C'est ma soeur? Aussi l'ai-je prise pour ma femme. Maintenant, voici ta femme, prends-la, et va-t-en!

20 A nd Pharaoh chargeth men concerning him, and they send him away, and his wife, an all that he hath.

Et Pharaon donna ordre à ses gens de le renvoyer, lui et sa femme, avec tout ce qui lui appartenait.
