1 ` For the reign of the heavens is like to a man, a householder, who went forth with the morning to hire workmen for his vineyard,

Car le royaume des cieux est semblable à un maître de maison qui sortit dès le matin, afin de louer des ouvriers pour sa vigne.

2 a nd having agreed with the workmen for a denary a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

Il convint avec eux d'un denier par jour, et il les envoya à sa vigne.

3 ` And having gone forth about the third hour, he saw others standing in the market-place idle,

Il sortit vers la troisième heure, et il en vit d'autres qui étaient sur la place sans rien faire.

4 a nd to these he said, Go ye -- also ye -- to the vineyard, and whatever may be righteous I will give you;

Il leur dit: Allez aussi à ma vigne, et je vous donnerai ce qui sera raisonnable.

5 a nd they went away. `Again, having gone forth about the sixth and the ninth hour, he did in like manner.

Et ils y allèrent. Il sortit de nouveau vers la sixième heure et vers la neuvième, et il fit de même.

6 A nd about the eleventh hour, having gone forth, he found others standing idle, and saith to them, Why here have ye stood all the day idle?

Étant sorti vers la onzième heure, il en trouva d'autres qui étaient sur la place, et il leur dit: Pourquoi vous tenez-vous ici toute la journée sans rien faire?

7 t hey say to him, Because no one did hire us; he saith to them, Go ye -- ye also -- to the vineyard, and whatever may be righteous ye shall receive.

Ils lui répondirent: C'est que personne ne nous a loués. Allez aussi à ma vigne, leur dit-il.

8 ` And evening having come, the lord of the vineyard saith to his steward, Call the workmen, and pay them the reward, having begun from the last -- unto the first.

Quand le soir fut venu, le maître de la vigne dit à son intendant: Appelle les ouvriers, et paie-leur le salaire, en allant des derniers aux premiers.

9 A nd they of about the eleventh hour having come, did receive each a denary.

Ceux de la onzième heure vinrent, et reçurent chacun un denier.

10 ` And the first having come, did suppose that they shall receive more, and they received, they also, each a denary,

Les premiers vinrent ensuite, croyant recevoir davantage; mais ils reçurent aussi chacun un denier.

11 a nd having received, they were murmuring against the householder, saying,

En le recevant, ils murmurèrent contre le maître de la maison,

12 t hat These, the last, wrought one hour, and thou didst make them equal to us, who were bearing the burden of the day -- and the heat.

et dirent: Ces derniers n'ont travaillé qu'une heure, et tu les traites à l'égal de nous, qui avons supporté la fatigue du jour et la chaleur.

13 ` And he answering said to one of them, Comrade, I do no unrighteousness to thee; for a denary didst not thou agree with me?

Il répondit à l'un d'eux: Mon ami, je ne te fais pas tort; n'es-tu pas convenu avec moi d'un denier?

14 t ake that which is thine, and go; and I will to give to this, the last, also as to thee;

Prends ce qui te revient, et va-t'en. Je veux donner à ce dernier autant qu'à toi.

15 i s it not lawful to me to do what I will in mine own? is thine eye evil because I am good?

Ne m'est-il pas permis de faire de mon bien ce que je veux? Ou vois-tu de mauvais oeil que je sois bon? -

16 S o the last shall be first, and the first last, for many are called, and few chosen.'

Ainsi les derniers seront les premiers, et les premiers seront les derniers.

17 A nd Jesus going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples by themselves in the way, and said to them,

Pendant que Jésus montait à Jérusalem, il prit à part les douze disciples, et il leur dit en chemin:

18 ` Lo, we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man shall be delivered to the chief priests and scribes,

Voici, nous montons à Jérusalem, et le Fils de l'homme sera livré aux principaux sacrificateurs et aux scribes. Ils le condamneront à mort,

19 a nd they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the nations to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify, and the third day he will rise again.'

et ils le livreront aux païens, pour qu'ils se moquent de lui, le battent de verges, et le crucifient; et le troisième jour il ressuscitera.

20 T hen came near to him the mother of the sons of Zebedee, with her sons, bowing and asking something from him,

Alors la mère des fils de Zébédée s'approcha de Jésus avec ses fils, et se prosterna, pour lui faire une demande.

21 a nd he said to her, `What wilt thou?' She saith to him, `Say, that they may sit -- these my two sons -- one on thy right hand, and one on the left, in thy reign.'

Il lui dit: Que veux-tu? Ordonne, lui dit-elle, que mes deux fils, que voici, soient assis, dans ton royaume, l'un à ta droite et l'autre à ta gauche.

22 A nd Jesus answering said, `Ye have not known what ye ask for yourselves; are ye able to drink of the cup that I am about to drink? and with the baptism that I am baptized with, to be baptized?' They say to him, `We are able.'

Jésus répondit: Vous ne savez ce que vous demandez. Pouvez-vous boire la coupe que je dois boire? Nous le pouvons, dirent-ils.

23 A nd he saith to them, `Of my cup indeed ye shall drink, and with the baptism that I am baptized with ye shall be baptized; but to sit on my right hand and on my left is not mine to give, but -- to those for whom it hath been prepared by my father.'

Et il leur répondit: Il est vrai que vous boirez ma coupe; mais pour ce qui est d'être assis à ma droite et à ma gauche, cela ne dépend pas de moi, et ne sera donné qu'à ceux à qui mon Père l'a réservé.

24 A nd the ten having heard, were much displeased with the two brothers,

Les dix, ayant entendu cela, furent indignés contre les deux frères.

25 a nd Jesus having called them near, said, `Ye have known that the rulers of the nations do exercise lordship over them, and those great do exercise authority over them,

Jésus les appela, et dit: Vous savez que les chefs des nations les tyrannisent, et que les grands les asservissent.

26 b ut not so shall it be among you, but whoever may will among you to become great, let him be your ministrant;

Il n'en sera pas de même au milieu de vous. Mais quiconque veut être grand parmi vous, qu'il soit votre serviteur;

27 a nd whoever may will among you to be first, let him be your servant;

et quiconque veut être le premier parmi vous, qu'il soit votre esclave.

28 e ven as the Son of Man did not come to be ministered to, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.'

C'est ainsi que le Fils de l'homme est venu, non pour être servi, mais pour servir et donner sa vie comme la rançon de plusieurs.

29 A nd they going forth from Jericho, there followed him a great multitude,

Lorsqu'ils sortirent de Jéricho, une grande foule suivit Jésus.

30 a nd lo, two blind men sitting by the way, having heard that Jesus doth pass by, cried, saying, `Deal kindly with us, sir -- Son of David.'

Et voici, deux aveugles, assis au bord du chemin, entendirent que Jésus passait, et crièrent: Aie pitié de nous, Seigneur, Fils de David!

31 A nd the multitude charged them that they might be silent, and they cried out the more, saying, `Deal kindly with us sir -- Son of David.'

La foule les reprenait, pour les faire taire; mais ils crièrent plus fort: Aie pitié de nous, Seigneur, Fils de David!

32 A nd having stood, Jesus called them, and said, `What will ye I may do to you?'

Jésus s'arrêta, les appela, et dit: Que voulez-vous que je vous fasse?

33 t hey say to him, `Sir, that our eyes may be opened;'

Ils lui dirent: Seigneur, que nos yeux s'ouvrent.

34 a nd having been moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes, and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.

Ému de compassion, Jésus toucha leurs yeux; et aussitôt ils recouvrèrent la vue, et le suivirent.
