1 A nd Jehovah saith unto Abram, `Go for thyself, from thy land, and from thy kindred, and from the house of thy father, unto the land which I shew thee.

Il Signore disse ad Abramo: «Va’ via dal tuo paese, dai tuoi parenti e dalla casa di tuo padre, e va’ nel paese che io ti mostrerò;

2 A nd I make thee become a great nation, and bless thee, and make thy name great; and be thou a blessing.

io farò di te una grande nazione, ti benedirò e renderò grande il tuo nome e tu sarai fonte di benedizione.

3 A nd I bless those blessing thee, and him who is disesteeming thee I curse, and blessed in thee have been all families of the ground.'

Benedirò quelli che ti benediranno e maledirò chi ti maledirà, e in te saranno benedette tutte le famiglie della terra ».

4 A nd Abram goeth on, as Jehovah hath spoken unto him, and Lot goeth with him, and Abram a son of five and seventy years in his going out from Charan.

Abramo partì, come il Signore gli aveva detto, e Lot andò con lui. Abramo aveva settantacinque anni quando partì da Caran.

5 A nd Abram taketh Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they have gained, and the persons that they have obtained in Charan; and they go out to go towards the land of Canaan; and they come in to the land of Canaan.

Abramo prese Sarai sua moglie e Lot, figlio di suo fratello, e tutti i beni che possedevano e le persone che avevano acquistate in Caran, e partirono verso il paese di Canaan.

6 A nd Abram passeth over into the land, unto the place Shechem, unto the oak of Moreh; and the Canaanite then in the land.

Giunsero così nella terra di Canaan, e Abramo attraversò il paese fino alla località di Sichem, fino alla quercia di More. In quel tempo i Cananei erano nel paese.

7 A nd Jehovah appeareth unto Abram, and saith, `To thy seed I give this land;' and he buildeth there an altar to Jehovah, who hath appeared unto him.

Il Signore apparve ad Abramo e disse: «Io darò questo paese alla tua discendenza». Lì Abramo costruì un altare al Signore che gli era apparso.

8 A nd he removeth from thence towards a mountain at the east of Beth-El, and stretcheth out the tent (Beth-El at the west, and Hai at the east), and he buildeth there an altar to Jehovah, and preacheth in the name of Jehovah.

Di là si spostò verso la montagna a oriente di Betel, e piantò le sue tende, avendo Betel a occidente e Ai a oriente; lì costruì un altare al Signore e invocò il nome del Signore.

9 A nd Abram journeyeth, going on and journeying towards the south.

Poi Abramo partì, proseguendo da un accampamento all’altro, verso la regione meridionale. Abramo in Egitto

10 A nd there is a famine in the land, and Abram goeth down towards Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine grievous in the land;

Venne una carestia nel paese e Abramo scese in Egitto per soggiornarvi, perché la fame era grande nel paese.

11 a nd it cometh to pass as he hath drawn near to enter Egypt, that he saith unto Sarai his wife, `Lo, I pray thee, I have known that thou a woman of beautiful appearance;

Come stava per entrare in Egitto, disse a Sarai sua moglie: «Ecco, io so che tu sei una donna di bell’aspetto;

12 a nd it hath come to pass that the Egyptians see thee, and they have said, `This his wife,' and they have slain me, and thee they keep alive:

quando gli Egiziani ti vedranno, diranno: “È sua moglie”. Essi mi uccideranno, ma a te lasceranno la vita.

13 s ay, I pray thee, thou my sister, so that it is well with me because of thee, and my soul hath lived for thy sake.'

Di’ dunque che sei mia sorella, perché io sia trattato bene a motivo di te e la vita mi sia conservata per amor tuo».

14 A nd it cometh to pass, at the entering of Abram into Egypt, that the Egyptians see the woman that she exceeding fair;

Quando Abramo giunse in Egitto, gli Egiziani osservarono che la donna era molto bella.

15 a nd princes of Pharaoh see her, and praise her unto Pharaoh, and the woman is taken Pharaoh's house;

I prìncipi del faraone la videro, ne fecero le lodi in presenza del faraone; e la donna fu condotta in casa del faraone.

16 a nd to Abram he hath done good because of her, and he hath sheep and oxen, and he-asses, and men-servants, and handmaids, and she-asses, and camels.

Questi fece del bene ad Abramo per amore di lei e Abramo ebbe pecore, buoi, asini, servi, serve, asine e cammelli.

17 A nd Jehovah plagueth Pharaoh and his house -- great plagues -- for the matter of Sarai, Abram's wife.

Ma il Signore colpì il faraone e la sua casa con grandi piaghe, a motivo di Sarai, moglie di Abramo.

18 A nd Pharaoh calleth for Abram, and saith, `What this thou hast done to me? why hast thou not declared to me that she thy wife?

Allora il faraone chiamò Abramo e disse: «Che cosa mi hai fatto? Perché non mi hai detto che era tua moglie? Perché hai detto:

19 W hy hast thou said, She my sister, and I take her to myself for a wife? and now, lo, thy wife, take and go.'

“È mia sorella”? Così io l’ho presa per moglie. Ora eccoti tua moglie, prendila e vattene!»

20 A nd Pharaoh chargeth men concerning him, and they send him away, and his wife, an all that he hath.

E il faraone diede alla sua gente ordini relativi ad Abramo, ed essi fecero partire lui, sua moglie e tutto quello che egli possedeva.
