1 H o, every thirsty one, come ye to the waters, And he who hath no money, Come ye, buy and eat, yea, come, buy Without money and without price, wine and milk.

«O voi tutti che siete assetati, venite alle acque; voi che non avete denaro venite, comprate e mangiate! Venite, comprate senza denaro, senza pagare, vino e latte!

2 W hy do ye weigh money for that which is not bread? And your labour for that which is not for satiety? Hearken diligently unto me, and eat good, And your soul doth delight itself in fatness.

Perché spendete denaro per ciò che non è pane e il frutto delle vostre fatiche per ciò che non sazia? Ascoltatemi attentamente e mangerete ciò che è buono, gusterete cibi succulenti!

3 I ncline your ear, and come unto me, Hear, and your soul doth live, And I make for you a covenant age-during, The kind acts of David -- that are stedfast.

Porgete l’orecchio e venite a me; ascoltate e voi vivrete; io farò con voi un patto eterno, vi largirò le grazie stabili promesse a Davide.

4 L o, a witness to peoples I have given him, A leader and commander to peoples.

Ecco, io l’ho dato come testimonio ai popoli, come principe e governatore dei popoli.

5 L o, a nation thou knowest not, thou callest, And a nation who know thee not unto thee do run, For the sake of Jehovah thy God, And for the Holy One of Israel, Because He hath beautified thee.

Ecco, tu chiamerai nazioni che non conosci, e nazioni che non ti conoscono accorreranno a te a motivo del Signore, del tuo Dio, del Santo d’Israele, perché egli ti avrà glorificato».

6 S eek ye Jehovah, while He is found, Call ye Him, while He is near,

Cercate il Signore mentre lo si può trovare; invocatelo mentre è vicino.

7 F orsake doth the wicked his way, And the man of iniquity his thoughts, And he returneth to Jehovah, and He pitieth him, And unto our God for He multiplieth to pardon.

Lasci l’empio la sua via e l’uomo iniquo i suoi pensieri; si converta egli al Signore, che avrà pietà di lui, al nostro Dio, che non si stanca di perdonare.

8 F or not My thoughts your thoughts, Nor your ways My ways, -- an affirmation of Jehovah,

«Infatti i miei pensieri non sono i vostri pensieri, né le vostre vie sono le mie vie», dice il Signore.

9 F or high have the heavens been above the earth, So high have been My ways above your ways, And My thoughts above your thoughts.

«Come i cieli sono alti al di sopra della terra, così sono le mie vie più alte delle vostre vie e i miei pensieri più alti dei vostri pensieri.

10 F or, as come down doth the shower, And the snow from the heavens, And thither returneth not, But hath watered the earth, And hath caused it to yield, and to spring up, And hath given seed to the sower, and bread to the eater,

Come la pioggia e la neve scendono dal cielo e non vi ritornano senza aver annaffiato la terra, senza averla fecondata e fatta germogliare, affinché dia seme al seminatore e pane da mangiare,

11 S o is My word that goeth out of My mouth, It turneth not back unto Me empty, But hath done that which I desired, And prosperously effected that which I sent it.

così è della mia parola, uscita dalla mia bocca: essa non torna a me a vuoto, senza aver compiuto ciò che io voglio e condotto a buon fine ciò per cui l’ho mandata.

12 F or with joy ye go forth, And with peace ye are brought in, The mountains and the hills Break forth before you singing, And all trees of the field clap the hand.

Sì, voi partirete con gioia e sarete ricondotti in pace; i monti e i colli proromperanno in grida di gioia davanti a voi, tutti gli alberi della campagna batteranno le mani.

13 I nstead of the thorn come up doth fir, Instead of the brier come up doth myrtle, And it hath been to Jehovah for a name, For a sign age-during -- it is not cut off!

Nel luogo del pruno si eleverà il cipresso, nel luogo del rovo crescerà il mirto; ciò sarà per il Signore un motivo di gloria, un monumento perenne che non sarà distrutto».
