1 A Song of the Ascents. Remember, Jehovah, for David, all his afflictions.

Canto dei pellegrinaggi. Ricòrdati, Signore, di Davide, di tutte le sue fatiche,

2 W ho hath sworn to Jehovah. He hath vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob:

quando egli giurò al Signore e fece voto al Potente di Giacobbe, dicendo:

3 ` If I enter into the tent of my house, If I go up on the couch of my bed,

«Certo, non entrerò nella mia casa, né salirò sul mio letto;

4 I f I give sleep to mine eyes, To mine eyelids -- slumber,

non darò sonno ai miei occhi, né riposo alle mie palpebre,

5 T ill I do find a place for Jehovah, Tabernacles for the Mighty One of Jacob.

finché abbia trovato un luogo per il Signore, una dimora per il Potente di Giacobbe».

6 ` Lo, we have heard it in Ephratah, We have found it in the fields of the forest.

Ecco, abbiamo saputo che l’arca era in Efrata: l’abbiamo trovata nei campi di Iaar.

7 W e come in to His tabernacles, We bow ourselves at His footstool.

Andiamo nella dimora del Signore, adoriamo davanti allo sgabello dei suoi piedi!

8 A rise, O Jehovah, to Thy rest, Thou, and the ark of Thy strength,

Àlzati, Signore, vieni al luogo del tuo riposo, tu e l’arca della tua potenza.

9 T hy priests do put on righteousness, And Thy pious ones cry aloud.

I tuoi sacerdoti siano rivestiti di giustizia e gioiscano i tuoi fedeli.

10 F or the sake of David Thy servant, Turn not back the face of Thine anointed.

Per amore di Davide, tuo servo, non respingere il volto del tuo unto.

11 J ehovah hath sworn truth to David, He turneth not back from it: Of the fruit of thy body, I set on the throne for thee.

Il Signore ha fatto a Davide questo giuramento di verità e non lo revocherà: «Io metterò sul tuo trono un tuo discendente.

12 I f thy sons keep My covenant, And My testimonies that I teach them, Their sons also for ever and ever, Do sit on the throne for thee.

Se i tuoi figli osserveranno il mio patto e la testimonianza che insegnerò loro, anche i loro figli staranno seduti per sempre sul tuo trono».

13 F or Jehovah hath fixed on Zion, He hath desired for a seat to Himself,

Poiché il Signore ha scelto Sion, l’ha desiderata per sua dimora.

14 T his My rest for ever and ever, Here do I sit, for I have desired it.

«Questo è il mio luogo di riposo in eterno; qui abiterò, perché l’ho desiderata.

15 H er provision I greatly bless, Her needy ones I satisfy bread,

Io benedirò largamente le sue provviste, sazierò di pane i suoi poveri.

16 A nd her priests I clothe salvation, And her pious ones do sing aloud.

I suoi sacerdoti li rivestirò di salvezza e i suoi fedeli esulteranno di gran gioia.

17 T here I cause to spring up a horn for David, I have arranged a lamp for Mine anointed.

Qua farò crescere la potenza di Davide e vi terrò accesa una lampada per il mio unto.

18 H is enemies I do clothe shame, And upon him doth his crown flourish!

I suoi nemici li coprirò di vergogna, ma su di lui fiorirà la sua corona».
