1 O n that night hath the sleep of the king fled away, and he saith to bring in the book of memorials of the Chronicles, and they are read before the king,

Quella notte il re, non potendo prendere sonno, ordinò che gli si portasse il libro delle Memorie, le Cronache; e ne fu fatta la lettura in presenza del re.

2 a nd it is found written that Mordecai had declared concerning Bigthana and Teresh, two of the eunuchs of the king, of the keepers of the threshold, who sought to put forth a hand on king Ahasuerus.

Vi si trovò scritto che Mardocheo aveva denunciato Bigtana e Teres, i due eunuchi del re, guardiani dell’ingresso, i quali avevano cercato di attentare alla vita del re Assuero.

3 A nd the king saith, `What honour and greatness hath been done to Mordecai for this?' And the servants of the king, his ministers, say, `Nothing hath been done with him.'

Allora il re chiese: «Quale onore e quale distinzione si sono dati a Mardocheo per questo?» Quelli che servivano il re risposero: «Non si è fatto nulla per lui».

4 A nd the king saith, `Who in the court?' -- and Haman hath come in to the outer court of the house of the king, to say to the king to hang Mordecai on the tree that he had prepared for him --

Il re disse: «Chi c’è nel cortile?» C’era Aman che era venuto nel cortile esterno della casa del re, per dire al re di fare impiccare Mardocheo alla forca che egli aveva preparata per lui.

5 a nd the servants of the king say unto him, `Lo, Haman is standing in the court;' and the king saith, `Let him come in.'

I servitori del re gli risposero: «Ecco, c’è Aman nel cortile». E il re disse: «Fatelo entrare».

6 A nd Haman cometh in, and the king saith to him, `What -- to do with the man in whose honour the king hath delighted?' And Haman saith in his heart, `To whom doth the king delight to do honour more than myself?'

Aman entrò e il re gli chiese: «Che si deve fare a un uomo che il re vuole onorare?» Aman disse in cuor suo: «Chi altri vorrebbe il re onorare, se non me?»

7 A nd Haman saith unto the king, `The man in whose honour the king hath delighted,

E Aman rispose al re: «Per l’uomo che il re vuole onorare

8 l et them bring in royal clothing that the king hath put on himself, and a horse on which the king hath ridden, and that the royal crown be put on his head,

si prenda la veste reale che il re suole indossare e il cavallo che il re suole cavalcare, e sulla cui testa è posta una corona reale;

9 a nd to give the clothing and the horse into the hand of a man of the heads of the king, the chiefs, and they have clothed the man in whose honour the king hath delighted, and caused him to ride on the horse in a broad place of the city, and called before him: Thus it is done to the man in whose honour the king hath delighted.'

si consegni la veste e il cavallo a uno dei prìncipi più nobili del re; si faccia indossare quella veste all’uomo che il re vuole onorare, lo si faccia percorrere a cavallo le vie della città, e si gridi davanti a lui: “Così si fa all’uomo che il re vuole onorare!”».

10 A nd the king saith to Haman, `Haste, take the clothing and the horse, as thou hast spoken, and do so to Mordecai the Jew, who is sitting in the gate of the king; there doth not fall a thing of all that thou hast spoken.'

Allora il re disse ad Aman: «Fa’ presto, prendi la veste e il cavallo, come hai detto, e fa’ a quel modo a Mardocheo, a quel Giudeo che siede alla porta del re; e non tralasciar nulla di quello che hai detto».

11 A nd Haman taketh the clothing, and the horse, and clothed Mordecai, and causeth him to ride in a broad place of the city, and calleth before him, `Thus it is done to the man in whose honour the king hath delighted.'

Aman prese la veste e il cavallo, fece indossare la veste a Mardocheo, gli fece percorrere a cavallo le vie della città, e gridava davanti a lui: «Così si fa all’uomo che il re vuole onorare!»

12 A nd Mordecai turneth back unto the gate of the king, and Haman hath been hastened unto his house mourning, and with covered head,

Poi Mardocheo tornò alla porta del re, ma Aman si affrettò ad andare a casa sua, tutto addolorato e con il capo coperto.

13 a nd Haman recounteth to Zeresh his wife, and to all his friends, all that hath met him, and his wise men say to him, and Zeresh his wife, `If Mordecai of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou art not able for him, but dost certainly fall before him.'

Aman raccontò a Zeres sua moglie e a tutti i suoi amici tutto quello che gli era accaduto. I suoi saggi e Zeres sua moglie gli dissero: «Se Mardocheo davanti al quale tu hai cominciato a cadere è della razza dei Giudei, tu non potrai resistergli. Soccomberai davanti a lui».

14 T hey are yet speaking with him, and eunuchs of the king have come, and haste to bring in Haman unto the banquet that Esther hath made.

Mentre essi parlavano ancora con lui, giunsero gli eunuchi del re, i quali si affrettarono a condurre Aman al convito che Ester aveva preparato.
