1 O n that night hath the sleep of the king fled away, and he saith to bring in the book of memorials of the Chronicles, and they are read before the king,

În noaptea aceea, împăratul n'a putut să doarmă, şi a poruncit să -i aducă lîngă el cartea aducerilor aminte, Cronicile. Le-au citit înaintea împăratului,

2 a nd it is found written that Mordecai had declared concerning Bigthana and Teresh, two of the eunuchs of the king, of the keepers of the threshold, who sought to put forth a hand on king Ahasuerus.

şi s'a găsit scris ce descoperise Mardoheu cu privire la Bigtan şi Tereş, cei doi fameni ai împăratului, păzitorii pragului, cari voiseră să întindă mîna asupra împăratului Ahaşveroş.

3 A nd the king saith, `What honour and greatness hath been done to Mordecai for this?' And the servants of the king, his ministers, say, `Nothing hath been done with him.'

Împăratul a zis:,, Ce cinste şi mărire i s'a făcut lui Mardoheu pentru aceasta?``,, Nu i s'a făcut nimic,`` au răspuns cei ce slujeau împăratului.

4 A nd the king saith, `Who in the court?' -- and Haman hath come in to the outer court of the house of the king, to say to the king to hang Mordecai on the tree that he had prepared for him --

Atunci împăratul a zis:,, Cine este în curte?`` -Haman venise în curtea de afară a casei împăratului, să ceară împăratului să spînzure pe Mardoheu pe lemnul pe care -l pregătise pentru el. -

5 a nd the servants of the king say unto him, `Lo, Haman is standing in the court;' and the king saith, `Let him come in.'

Slujitorii împăratului i-au răspuns:,, Haman este în curte.`` Şi împăratul a zis:,, Să intre.``

6 A nd Haman cometh in, and the king saith to him, `What -- to do with the man in whose honour the king hath delighted?' And Haman saith in his heart, `To whom doth the king delight to do honour more than myself?'

Haman a intrat, şi împăratul i -a zis:,, Ce trebuie făcut pentru un om pe care vrea să -l cinstească împăratul?`` Haman şi -a zis în sine:,, Pe cine altul decît pe mine ar vrea împăratul să -l cinstească?``

7 A nd Haman saith unto the king, `The man in whose honour the king hath delighted,

Şi Haman a răspuns împăratului:,, Omului pe care vrea împăratul să -l cinstească,

8 l et them bring in royal clothing that the king hath put on himself, and a horse on which the king hath ridden, and that the royal crown be put on his head,

trebuie să i se aducă haina împărătească, aceea cu care se îmbracă împăratul, şi calul pe care călăreşte împăratul, şi să i se pună cununa împărătească pe cap.

9 a nd to give the clothing and the horse into the hand of a man of the heads of the king, the chiefs, and they have clothed the man in whose honour the king hath delighted, and caused him to ride on the horse in a broad place of the city, and called before him: Thus it is done to the man in whose honour the king hath delighted.'

Să se dea haina şi calul uneia din căpeteniile de seamă ale împăratului, apoi să înbrace cu haina pe omul acela pe care vrea să -l cinstească împăratul, să -l plimbe călare pe cal prin locul deschis al cetăţii, şi să se strige înaintea lui:, Aşa se face omului pe care vrea împăratul să -l cinstească!``

10 A nd the king saith to Haman, `Haste, take the clothing and the horse, as thou hast spoken, and do so to Mordecai the Jew, who is sitting in the gate of the king; there doth not fall a thing of all that thou hast spoken.'

Împăratul i -a zis lui Haman:,, Ia îndată haina şi calul, cum ai zis, şi fă aşa Iudeului Mardoheu, care şade la poarta împăratului. Nu lăsa nefăcut nimic din ce ai spus.``

11 A nd Haman taketh the clothing, and the horse, and clothed Mordecai, and causeth him to ride in a broad place of the city, and calleth before him, `Thus it is done to the man in whose honour the king hath delighted.'

Şi Haman a luat haina şi calul, a îmbrăcat pe Mardoheu, l -a plimbat călare pe cal prin locul deschis al cetăţii, şi a strigat înaintea lui:,, Aşa se face omului pe care vrea împăratul să -l cinstească!``

12 A nd Mordecai turneth back unto the gate of the king, and Haman hath been hastened unto his house mourning, and with covered head,

Mardoheu s'a întors la poarta împăratului, şi Haman s'a dus în grabă acasă, mîhnit şi cu capul acoperit.

13 a nd Haman recounteth to Zeresh his wife, and to all his friends, all that hath met him, and his wise men say to him, and Zeresh his wife, `If Mordecai of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou art not able for him, but dost certainly fall before him.'

Haman a istorisit nevestei sale Zereş şi tuturor prietenilor săi tot ce i se întîmplase. Şi înţelepţii lui, şi nevastă-sa Zereş, i-au zis:,, Dacă Mardoheu, înaintea căruia ai început să cazi, este din neamul Iudeilor, nu vei putea face nimic împotriva lui, ci vei cădea înaintea lui.``

14 T hey are yet speaking with him, and eunuchs of the king have come, and haste to bring in Haman unto the banquet that Esther hath made.

Pe cînd îi vorbeau ei încă, au venit famenii împăratului şi au luat îndată pe Haman la ospăţul pe care -l pregătise Estera.
