1 H ear, I pray you, that which Jehovah is saying: `Rise -- strive thou with the mountains, And cause thou the hills to hear thy voice.'

Ascultaţi dar ce zice Domnul;,, Scoală-te, judecă-te înaintea munţilor, şi dealurile să-ţi audă glasul!...

2 H ear, O mountains, the strife of Jehovah, Ye strong ones -- foundations of earth! For a strife to Jehovah, with His people, And with Israel He doth reason.

Ascultaţi, munţi, pricina Domnului, şi luaţi aminte, temelii tari ale pămîntului! Căci Domnul are o judecată cu poporul Său, şi vrea să Se judece cu Israel. -

3 O My people, what have I done to thee? And what -- have I wearied thee? Testify against Me.

Poporul Meu, ce ţi-am făcut şi cu ce te-am ostenit? Răspunde-Mi!

4 F or I brought thee up from the land of Egypt, And from the house of servants I have ransomed thee, And I send before thee Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.

Căci te-am scos din ţara Egiptului, te-am izbăvit din casa robiei, şi am trimes înaintea ta pe Moise, Aaron şi Maria!

5 O My people, remember, I pray you, What counsel did Balak king of Moab, What answer him did Balaam son of Beor, (From Shittim unto Gilgal,) In order to know the righteous acts of Jehovah.'

Poporul Meu, adu-ţi aminte ce plănuia Balac împăratul Moabului, şi ce i -a răspuns Balaam, fiul lui Beor, şi ce s'a întîmplat din Sitim pînă la Ghilgal, ca să cunoşti binefacerile Domnului!``

6 W ith what do I come before Jehovah? Do I bow to God Most High? Do I come before Him with burnt-offerings? With calves -- sons of a year?

Cu ce voi întîmpina pe Domnul, şi cu ce mă voi pleca înaintea Dumnezeului Celui Prea Înalt? Îl voi întîmpina oare cu arderi de tot, cu viţei de un an?

7 I s Jehovah pleased with thousands of rams? With myriads of streams of oil? Do I give my first-born my transgression? The fruit of my body the sin of my soul?

Dar primeşte Domnul oare mii de berbeci, sau zeci de mii de rîuri de untdelemn? Să dau eu pentru fărădelegile mele pe întîiul meu născut, rodul trupului meu pentru păcatul sufletului meu?`` -

8 H e hath declared to thee, O man, what good; Yea, what is Jehovah requiring of thee, Except -- to do judgment, and love kindness, And lowly to walk with thy God?

s'a arătat, omule, ce este bine, şi ce alta cere Domnul dela tine, decît să faci deptate, să iubeşti mila, şi să umbli smerit cu Dumezeul tău?``

9 A voice of Jehovah to the city calleth, And wisdom doth fear Thy name, Hear ye the rod, and Him who appointed it.

Glasul Domnului strigă cetăţii, şi omul înţelept se teme de Numele Tău. Ascultaţi pedeapsa şi pe Celce o trimete!

10 A re there yet the house of the wicked Treasures of wickedness, And the abhorred scanty ephah?

Mai sînt în casa celui rău comori nelegiuite, şi blestemata efă mică?

11 D o I reckon pure with balances of wickedness? And with a bag of deceitful stones?

Pot socoti Eu curat pe celce are o cumpănă nedreaptă şi greutăţi strîmbe în sac?

12 W hose rich ones have been full of violence, And its inhabitants have spoken falsehood, And their tongue deceitful in their mouth.

Pentrucă bogaţii lui sînt plini de sîlnicie, locuitorii lui spun minciuni, şi limba lor este numai înşelătorie în gura lor,

13 A nd I also, I have begun to smite thee, To make desolate, because of thy sins.

de aceea, şi Eu te voi lovi cu suferinţa, te voi pustii pentru păcatele tale.

14 T hou -- thou eatest, and thou art not satisfied, And thy pit in thy midst, And thou removest, and dost not deliver, And that which thou deliverest, to a sword I give.

Vei mînca şi tot nu te vei sătura, ci foamea va rămînea în tine; ce vei lua dinaintea vrăjmaşului nu vei scăpa, căci ce vei scăpa, voi da pradă săbiei.

15 T hou -- thou sowest, and thou dost not reap, Thou -- thou treadest the olive, And thou pourest not out oil, And new wine -- and thou drinkest not wine.

Veţi sămăna, dar nu vei secera, vei stoarce măsline dar nu te vei unge cu untdelemnul lor, vei face must, dar nu vei bea vin!

16 A nd kept habitually are the statutes of Omri, And all the work of the house of Ahab, And ye do walk in their counsels, For My giving thee for a desolation, And its inhabitants for a hissing, And the reproach of My people ye do bear!

Căci ei păzesc toate orînduirile lui Omri, şi lucrează tocmai cum a lucrat casa lui Ahab, şi umblă după sfaturile lor, de aceea te voi face de pomină, îţi voi face locuitorii de batjocură, şi veţi purta ocara poporului Meu.
