1 A nd it cometh to pass, when Samuel aged, that he maketh his sons judges over Israel.

Cînd a îmbătrînit Samuel, a pus pe fiii săi judecători peste Israel.

2 A nd the name of his first-born son is Joel, and the name of his second Abiah, judges in Beer-Sheba:

Fiul său întîi născut se numea Ioel, şi al doilea Abia; ei erau judecători la Beer-Şeba.

3 a nd his sons have not walked in his ways, and turn aside after the dishonest gain, and take a bribe, and turn aside judgment.

Fiii lui Samuel n'au călcat pe urmele lui; ci se dădeau la lăcomie, luau mită... şi călcau dreptatea.

4 A nd all the elders of Israel gather themselves together, and come in unto Samuel to Ramath,

Toţi bătrînii lui Israel s'au strîns şi au venit la Samuel la Rama.

5 a nd say unto him, `Lo, thou hast become aged, and thy sons have not walked in thy ways; now, appoint to us a king, to judge us, like all the nations.'

Ei au zis:,, Iată că tu eşti bătrîn, şi copiii tăi nu calcă pe urmele tale; acum pune un împărat peste noi să ne judece, cum au toate neamurile.``

6 A nd the thing is evil in the eyes of Samuel, when they have said, `Give to us a king to judge us;' and Samuel prayeth unto Jehovah.

Samuel n'a văzut cu plăcere faptul că ziceau:,, Dă-ne un împărat ca să ne judece.`` Şi Samuel s'a rugat Domnului.

7 A nd Jehovah saith unto Samuel, `Hearken to the voice of the people, to all that they say unto thee, for thee they have not rejected, but Me they have rejected, from reigning over them.

Domnul a zis lui Samuel:,, Ascultă glasul poporului în tot ce-ţi va spune; căci nu pe tine te leapădă, ci pe Mine mă leapădă, ca să nu mai domnesc peste ei.

8 A ccording to all the works that they have done from the day of My bringing them up out of Egypt, even unto this day, when they forsake Me, and serve other gods -- so they are doing also to thee.

Ei se poartă cu tine cum s'au purtat totdeauna, decînd i-am scos din Egipt pînă în ziua de astăzi; M'au părăsit şi au slujit altor dumnezei.

9 A nd now, hearken to their voice; only, surely thou dost certainly protest to them, and hast declared to them the custom of the king who doth reign over them.'

Ascultă-le glasul deci; dar înştiinţează -i, şi fă-le cunoscut dreptul împăratului care va domni peste ei.``

10 A nd Samuel speaketh all the words of Jehovah unto the people who are asking from him a king,

Samuel a spus toate cuvintele Domnului poporului care -i cerea un împărat.

11 a nd saith, `This is the custom of the king who doth reign over you: Your sons he doth take, and hath appointed for himself among his chariots, and among his horsemen, and they have run before his chariots;

El a zis:,, Iată care va fi dreptul împăratului care va domni peste voi. El va lua pe fiii voştri, îi va pune la carele sale şi între călăreţii lui, ca să alerge înaintea carului lui;

12 a lso to appoint for himself heads of thousands, and heads of fifties; also to plow his plowing, and to reap his reaping; and to make instruments of his war, and instruments of his charioteer.

îi va pune căpetenii peste o mie şi căpetenii peste cinzeci, şi -i va întrebuinţa la aratul pămînturilor lui, la seceratul bucatelor lui, la facerea armelor lui de război şi a uneltelor carelor lui.

13 ` And your daughters he doth take for perfumers, and for cooks, and for bakers;

Va lua pe fetele voastre să -i facă miresme, de mîncare şi pîne.

14 a nd your fields, and your vineyards, and your olive-yards -- the best -- he doth take, and hath given to his servants.

Va lua cea mai bună parte din cîmpiile voastre, din viile voastre şi din măslinii voştri, şi o va da slujitorilor lui.

15 A nd your seed and your vineyards he doth tithe, and hath given to his eunuchs, and to his servants.

Va lua zeciuială din rodul seminţelor şi viilor voastre, şi o va da famenilor şi slujitorilor lui.

16 A nd your men-servants, and your maid-servants, and your young men -- the best, and your asses, he doth take, and hath prepared for his own work;

Va lua pe robii şi roabele voastre, cei mai buni boi şi măgari ai voştri, şi -i va întrebuinţa la lucrările lui.

17 y our flock he doth tithe, and ye are to him for servants.

Va lua zeciuială din oile voastre, şi voi înşivă veţi fi slugile lui.

18 A nd ye have cried out in that day because of the king whom ye have chosen for yourselves, and Jehovah doth not answer you in that day.'

Şi atunci veţi striga împotriva împăratului vostru pe care -l veţi alege, dar Domnul nu vă va asculta.``

19 A nd the people refuse to hearken to the voice of Samuel, and say, `Nay, but a king is over us,

Poporul n'a vrut să asculte glasul lui Samuel.,, Nu!`` au zis ei,,, ci să fie un împărat peste noi,

20 a nd we have been, even we, like all the nations; and our king hath judged us, and gone out before us, and fought our battles.'

ca să fim şi noi ca toate neamurile; împăratul nostru ne va judeca, va merge în fruntea noastră şi ne va cîrmui în războaiele noastre.``

21 A nd Samuel heareth all the words of the people, and speaketh them in the ears of Jehovah;

Samuel, dupăce a auzit toate cuvintele poporului, le -a spus în auzul Domnului.

22 a nd Jehovah saith unto Samuel, `Hearken to their voice, and thou hast caused to reign over them a king.' And Samuel saith unto the men of Israel, `Go ye each to his city.'

Şi Domnul a zis lui Samuel:,, Ascultă-le glasul, şi pune un împărat peste ei.`` Şi Samuel a zis bărbaţilor lui Israel:,, Duceţi-vă fiecare în cetatea lui.``
