1 A nd I decided this to myself, not again to come in sorrow unto you,

Am hotărît dar în mine, să nu mă întorc la voi cu întristare.

2 f or if I make you sorry, then who is he who is making me glad, except he who is made sorry by me?

Căci, dacă vă întristez, dela cine să mă aştept la bucurie, dacă nu dela cel întristat de mine?

3 a nd I wrote to you this same thing, that having come, I may not have sorrow from them of whom it behoved me to have joy, having confidence in you all, that my joy is of you all,

Şi v'am scris cum v'am scris, ca, la venirea mea, să n'am întristare din partea celor ce trebuiau să-mi facă bucurie; şi sînt încredinţat, cu privire la voi toţi, că bucuria mea este bucuria voastră a tuturor.

4 f or out of much tribulation and pressure of heart I wrote to you through many tears, not that ye might be made sorry, but that ye might know the love that I have more abundantly toward you.

V'am scris cu multă mîhnire, şi strîngere de inimă, cu ochii scăldaţi în lacrămi, nu ca să vă întristaţi, ci ca să vedeţi dragostea nespus de mare, pe care o am faţă de voi.

5 A nd if any one hath caused sorrow, he hath not caused sorrow to me, but in part, that I may not burden you all;

Dacă a fost cineva o pricină de întristare, nu m'a întristat numai pe mine, ci pe voi toţi; cel puţin în parte, ca să nu spun prea mult.

6 s ufficient to such a one is this punishment, that by the more part,

Este destul pentru omul acesta pedeapsa, care i -a fost dată de cei mai mulţi;

7 s o that, on the contrary, rather for you to forgive and to comfort, lest by over abundant sorrow such a one may be swallowed up;

aşa că acum, este mai bine să -l iertaţi, şi să -l mîngăiaţi, ca să nu fie doborît de prea multă mîhnire.

8 w herefore, I call upon you to confirm love to him,

De aceea, vă rog, să vă arătaţi iarăş dragostea faţă de el;

9 f or, for this also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether in regard to all things ye are obedient.

căci v'am scris şi cu gîndul ca să vă pun la încercare şi să văd dacă sînteţi ascultători în totul.

10 A nd to whom ye forgive anything -- I also; for I also, if I have forgiven anything, to whom I have forgiven, because of you -- in the person of Christ --

Dar pe cine iertaţi voi, îl iert şi eu. În adevăr, ce am iertat eu, -dacă am iertat ceva-am iertat pentru voi, în faţa lui Hristos,

11 t hat we may not be over-reached by the Adversary, for of his devices we are not ignorant.

ca să nu lăsăm pe Satana să aibă un cîştig dela noi; căci nu sîntem în neştiinţă despre planurile lui.

12 A nd having come to Troas for the good news of the Christ, and a door to me having been opened in the Lord,

Cînd am ajuns la Troa pentru Evanghelia lui Hristos, măcar că mi se deschisese acolo o uşă în Domnul,

13 I have not had rest to my spirit, on my not finding Titus my brother, but having taken leave of them, I went forth to Macedonia;

n'am avut linişte în duhul meu, fiindcă n'am găsit pe fratele meu Tit; de aceea, mi-am luat ziua bună dela fraţi, şi am plecat în Macedonia.

14 a nd to God thanks, who at all times is leading us in triumph in the Christ, and the fragrance of His knowledge He is manifesting through us in every place,

Mulţămiri fie aduse lui Dumnezeu, care ne poartă totdeauna cu carul Lui de biruinţă în Hristos, şi care răspîndeşte prin noi în orice loc mireasma cunoştinţei Lui.

15 b ecause of Christ a sweet fragrance we are to God, in those being saved, and in those being lost;

În adevăr, noi sîntem, înaintea lui Dumnezeu, o mireasmă a lui Hristos printre cei ce sînt pe calea mîntuirii şi printre cei ce sînt pe calea pierzării:

16 t o the one, indeed, a fragrance of death to death, and to the other, a fragrance of life to life; and for these things who is sufficient?

pentru aceştia, o mireasmă dela moarte spre moarte; pentru aceia, o mireasmă dela viaţă spre viaţă. Şi cine este deajuns pentru aceste lucruri?

17 f or we are not as the many, adulterating the word of God, but as of sincerity -- but as of God; in the presence of God, in Christ we do speak.

Căci noi nu stricăm Cuvîntul lui Dumnezeu, cum fac cei mai mulţi; ci vorbim cu inimă curată, din partea lui Dumnezeu, înaintea lui Dumnezeu, în Hristos.
