1 T hou, therefore, my child, be strong in the grace that in Christ Jesus,

Tu dar, copilul meu, întăreşte-te în harul care este în Hristos Isus.

2 a nd the things that thou didst hear from me through many witnesses, these things be committing to stedfast men, who shall be sufficient also others to teach;

Şi ce-ai auzit dela mine, în faţa multor marturi, încredinţează la oameni de încredere, cari să fie în stare să înveţe şi pe alţii.

3 t hou, therefore, suffer evil as a good soldier of Jesus Christ;

Sufere împreună cu mine, ca un bun ostaş al lui Hristos.

4 n o one serving as a soldier did entangle himself with the affairs of life, that him who did enlist him he may please;

Niciun ostaş nu se încurcă cu treburile vieţii, dacă vrea să placă celui ce l -a scris la oaste.

5 a nd if also any one may strive, he is not crowned, except he may strive lawfully;

Şi cine luptă la jocuri, nu este încununat, dacă nu s'a luptat după rînduieli.

6 t he labouring husbandman it behoveth first of the fruits to partake;

Plugarul trebue să muncească înainte ca să strîngă rodurile.

7 b e considering what things I say, for the Lord give to thee understanding in all things.

Înţelege ce-ţi spun; Domnul îţi va da pricepere în toate lucrurile.

8 R emember Jesus Christ, raised out of the dead, of the seed of David, according to my good news,

Adu-ţi aminte de Domnul Isus Hristos, din sămînţa lui David, înviat din morţi, după Evanghelia mea,

9 i n which I suffer evil -- unto bonds, as an evil-doer, but the word of God hath not been bound;

pentru care sufăr pînă acolo că sînt legat ca un făcător de rele. Dar Cuvîntul lui Dumnezeu nu este legat.

10 b ecause of this all things do I endure, because of the choice ones, that they also salvation may obtain that in Christ Jesus, with glory age-during.

De aceea rabd totul pentru cei aleşi, pentruca şi ei să capete mîntuirea care este în Hristos Isus, împreună cu slava vecinică.

11 S tedfast the word: For if we died together -- we also shall live together;

Adevărat este cuvîntul acesta: dacă am murit împreună cu El, vom şi trăi împreună cu El.

12 i f we do endure together -- we shall also reign together; if we deny, he also shall deny us;

Dacă răbdăm, vom şi împărţi împreună cu El. Dacă ne lepădăm de El, şi El Se va lepăda de noi.

13 i f we are not stedfast, he remaineth stedfast; to deny himself he is not able.

Dacă sîntem necredincioşi, totuş El rămîne credincios, căci nu Se poate tăgădui singur.

14 T hese things remind of, testifying fully before the Lord -- not to strive about words to nothing profitable, but to the subversion of those hearing;

Adu-le aminte de aceste lucruri, şi roagă -i fierbinte înaintea lui Dumnezeu, să se ferească de certurile de cuvinte, cari nu duc la alt folos decît la pieirea celor ce le ascultă.

15 b e diligent to present thyself approved to God -- a workman irreproachable, rightly dividing the word of the truth;

Caută să te înfăţişezi înaintea lui Dumnezeu ca un om încercat, ca un lucrător care n'are de ce să -i fie ruşine, şi care împarte drept Cuvîntul adevărului.

16 a nd the profane vain talkings stand aloof from, for to more impiety they will advance,

Fereşte-te de vorbăriile goale şi lumeşti; căci cei ce le ţin, vor înainta tot mai mult în necinstirea lui Dumnezeu.

17 a nd their word as a gangrene will have pasture, of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus,

Şi cuvîntul lor va roade ca gangrena. Din numărul acestora sînt Imeneu şi Filet,

18 w ho concerning the truth did swerve, saying the rising again to have already been, and do overthrow the faith of some;

cari s'au abătut dela adevăr. Ei zic că a şi venit învierea, şi răstoarnă credinţa unora.

19 s ure, nevertheless, hath the foundation of God stood, having this seal, `The Lord hath known those who are His,' and `Let him depart from unrighteousness -- every one who is naming the name of Christ.'

Totuş temelia tare a lui Dumnezeu stă nezguduită, avînd pecetea aceasta:,, Domnul cunoaşte pe ceice sînt ai Lui``; şi:,, Oricine rosteşte Numele Domnului, să se depărteze de fărădelege!``

20 A nd in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth, and some to honour, and some to dishonour:

Într'o casă mare nu sînt numai vase de aur şi de argint, ci şi de lemn şi de pămînt. Unele sînt pentru o întrebuinţare de cinste, iar altele pentru o întrebuinţare de ocară.

21 i f, then, any one may cleanse himself from these, he shall be a vessel to honour, sanctified and profitable to the master -- to every good work having been prepared,

Deci dacă cineva se curăţeşte de acestea, va fi un vas de cinste, sfinţit, folositor stăpînului său, destoinic pentru orice lucrare bună.

22 a nd the youthful lusts flee thou, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace, with those calling upon the Lord out of a pure heart;

Fugi de poftele tinereţii, şi urmăreşte neprihănirea, credinţa, dragostea, pacea, împreună cu cei ce cheamă pe Domnul dintr'o inimă curată.

23 a nd the foolish and uninstructed questions be avoiding, having known that they beget strife,

Fereşte-te de întrebările nebune şi nefolositoare, căci ştii că dau naştere la certuri.

24 a nd a servant of the Lord it behoveth not to strive, but to be gentle unto all, apt to teach, patient under evil,

Şi robul Domnului nu trebuie să se certe; ci să fie blînd cu toţi, în stare să înveţe pe toţi, plin de îngăduinţă răbdătoare,

25 i n meekness instructing those opposing -- if perhaps God may give to them repentance to an acknowledging of the truth,

să îndrepte cu blîndeţă pe potrivnici, în nădejdea că Dumnezeu le va da pocăinţa, ca să ajungă la cunoştinţa adevărului;

26 a nd they may awake out of the devil's snare, having been caught by him at his will.

şi, venindu-şi în fire, să se desprindă din cursa diavolului, de care au fost prinşi ca să -i facă voia.
