1 ` When I give healing to Israel, Then revealed is the iniquity of Ephraim, And the wickedness of Samaria, For they have wrought falsehood, And a thief doth come in, Stript off hath a troop in the street,

Cînd vreau să vindec pe Israel, atunci se descopere nelegiuirea lui Efraim şi răutatea Samariei, căci lucrează cu vicleşug. Înlăuntru vine hoţul, şi ceata de tîlhari jăfuieşte afară.

2 A nd they do not say to their heart, all their evil I have remembered, Now compassed them have their doings, Over-against My face they have been.

Şi nu se gîndesc în inima lor că Eu îmi aduc aminte de toată răutatea lor; faptele lor îi şi înconjoară, şi stau înaintea Mea!

3 W ith their wickedness they make glad a king, And with their lies -- princes.

Ei veselesc pe împărat cu răutatea lor, şi pe căpetenii cu minciunile lor.

4 A ll of them adulterers, Like a burning oven of a baker, He ceaseth from stirring up after kneading the dough, till its leavening.

Toţi sînt preacurvari, ca un cuptor încălzit de brutar: şi brutarul încetează să mai aţîţe focul, de cînd a frămîntat plămădeala pînă s'a ridicat.

5 A day of our king! Princes have polluted themselves the poison of wine, He hath drawn out his hand with scorners.

În ziua împăratului nostru, căpeteniile se îmbolnăvesc de prea mult vin, împăratul dă mîna cu batjocoritorii.

6 F or they have drawn near, As an oven their heart, In their lying in wait all the night sleep doth their baker, Morning! he is burning as a flaming fire.

Le arde inima după curse ca un cuptor; toată noaptea le fumegă mînia, iar dimineaţa arde ca un foc aprins.

7 A ll of them are warm as an oven, And they have devoured their judges, All their kings have fallen, There is none calling unto Me among them.

Toţi ard ca un cuptor, şi îşi mănîncă judecătorii; toţi împăraţii lor cad; niciunul din ei nu Mă cheamă.

8 E phraim! among peoples he mixeth himself, Ephraim hath been a cake unturned.

Efraim se amestecă printre popoare, Efraim este o turtă, care n'a fost întoarsă.

9 D evoured have strangers his power, And he hath not known, Also old age hath sprinkled on him, And he hath not known.

Nişte străini îi mănîncă puterea, şi el nu-şi dă seama, îl apucă bătrîneţa, şi el nu-şi dă seama.

10 A nd humbled hath been the excellency of Israel to his face, And they have not turned back unto Jehovah their God, Nor have they sought Him for all this.

Măcar că mîndria lui Israel mărturiseşte împotriva lui, tot nu se întorc la Domnul, Dumnezeul lor, şi tot nu -L caută, cu toate aceste pedepse!

11 A nd Ephraim is as a simple dove without heart, Egypt they called on -- Asshur they have gone.

Ci Efraim a ajuns ca o turturică proastă, fără pricepere; ei cheamă Egiptul, şi aleargă în Asiria.

12 W hen they go I spread over them My net, As the fowl of the heavens I bring them down, I chastise them as their company hath heard.

Dar ori de cîteori se duc, Îmi voi întinde laţul peste ei, îi voi doborî ca pe păsările cerului; şi -i voi pedepsi cum le-am spus în adunarea lor.

13 W o to them, for they wandered from Me, Destruction to them, for they transgressed against Me, And I -- I ransom them, and they have spoken lies against Me,

Vai de ei, pentrucă fug de Mine! Pieirea vine peste ei, pentrucă nu-Mi sînt credincioşi! Aş vrea să -i scap, dar ei spun minciuni împotriva Mea!

14 A nd have not cried unto Me with their heart, but howl on their beds, For corn and new wine they assemble themselves, They turn aside against Me.

Nu strigă către Mine din inimă, ci se bocesc în aşternutul lor; turbează după grîu şi must, şi se răzvrătesc împotriva Mea.

15 A nd I instructed -- I strengthened their arms, And concerning Me they think evil!

I-am pedepsit, I-am întărit braţele, dar ei gîndesc rău împotriva Mea.

16 T hey turn back -- not to the Most High, They have been as a deceitful bow, Fall by sword do their princes, From the insolence of their tongue, This their derision in the land of Egypt!

Se întorc, dar nu la Cel Prea Înalt; sînt ca un arc înşelător. Mai marii lor vor cădea ucişi de sabie, din pricina vorbirii lor îndrăzneţe, care -i va face de rîs în ţara Egiptului.
