1 A nd Joshua son of Nun sendeth from Shittim, two men, spies, silently, saying, `Go, see the land -- and Jericho;' and they go and come into the house of a woman, a harlot, and her name Rahab, and they lie down there.

Iosua, fiul lui Nun, a trimes în ascuns din Sitim doi oameni, ca iscoade, zicîndu-le:,, Duceţi-vă de cercetaţi ţara, şi mai ales Ierihonul.`` Cei doi oameni au plecat, şi au ajuns în casa unei curve, care se chema Rahav, şi s'au culcat acolo.

2 A nd it is told to the king of Jericho, saying, `Lo, men have come in hither to-night, from the sons of Israel, to search the land.

S'a dat de ştire împăratului din Ierihon, şi i-au spus:,, Iată că nişte oameni dintre copiii lui Israel au venit aici, astă noapte, ca să iscodească ţara.``

3 A nd the king of Jericho sendeth unto Rahab, saying, `Bring out the men who are coming in unto thee, who have come into thy house, for to search the whole of the land they have come in.

Împăratul Ierihonului a trimes la Rahav să -i spună:,, Scoate afară pe bărbaţii cari au venit la tine, şi cari au intrat în casa ta; căci au venit să iscodească ţara.``

4 A nd the woman taketh the two men, and hideth them, and saith thus: `The men came in unto me, and I have not known whence they;

Femeia a luat pe cei doi bărbaţi, şi i -a ascuns; şi a zis:,, Este adevărat că bărbaţii aceştia au venit la mine, dar nu ştiam de unde sînt;

5 a nd it cometh to pass -- the gate is to shut -- in the dark, and the men have gone out; I have not known whither the men have gone; pursue ye, hasten after them, for ye overtake them;'

şi, fiindcă poarta a trebuit să se închidă noaptea, bărbaţii aceştia au ieşit afară; nu ştiu unde s'au dus: grăbiţi-vă de -i urmăriţi, şi -i veţi ajunge.``

6 a nd she hath caused them to go up on the roof, and hideth them with the flax wood, which is arranged for her on the roof.

Ea îi suise pe acoperiş, şi -i ascunsese subt nişte mănunchiuri de in, pe care -l întinsese pe acoperiş.

7 A nd the men have pursued after them the way of the Jordan, by the fords, and the gate they have shut afterwards, when the pursuers have gone out after them.

Oamenii aceia i-au urmărit pe drumul care duce la vadul Iordanului, şi după ce au ieşit ei, s'a închis poarta.

8 A nd -- before they lie down -- she hath gone up unto them on the roof,

Înainte de a se culca iscoadele, Rahav s'a suit la ei pe acoperiş,

9 a nd she saith unto the men, `I have known that Jehovah hath given to you the land, and that your terror hath fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land have melted at your presence.

şi le -a zis:,,Ştiu că Domnul v'a dat ţara aceasta, căci ne -a apucat groaza de voi, şi toţi locuitorii ţării tremură înaintea voastră.

10 ` For we have heard how Jehovah dried up the waters of the Red Sea at your presence, in your going out of Egypt, and that which ye have done to the two kings of the Amorite who beyond the Jordan; to Sihon and to Og whom ye devoted.

Fiindcă am auzit cum, la ieşirea voastră din Egipt, Domnul a secat înaintea voastră apele mării Roşii, şi am auzit ce aţi făcut celor doi împăraţi ai Amoriţilor dincolo de Iordan, lui Sihon şi Og, pe cari i-aţi nimicit cu desăvîrşire.

11 A nd we hear, and melt doth our heart, and there hath not stood any more spirit in man, from your presence, for Jehovah your God, He God in the heavens above, and on the earth beneath.

De cînd am auzit lucrul acesta, ni s'a tăiat inima, şi toţi ne-am pierdut nădejdea înaintea voastră; căci Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, este Dumnezeu sus în ceruri şi jos pe pămînt.

12 ` And now, swear ye, I pray you, to me by Jehovah -- because I have done with you kindness -- that ye have done, even ye, kindness with the house of my father, and have given to me a true token,

Şi acum, vă rog, juraţi-mi pe Domnul că veţi avea faţă de casa tatălui meu aceeaş bunăvoinţă pe care am avut -o eu faţă de voi. Daţi-mi un semn de încredinţare

13 a nd have kept alive my father, and my mother, and my brothers, and my sisters, and all that they have, and have delivered our souls from death.'

că veţi lăsa cu viaţă pe tatăl meu, pe mama mea, pe fraţii mei, pe surorile mele, şi pe toţi ai lor, şi că ne veţi scăpa dela moarte.``

14 A nd the men say to her, `Our soul for yours -- to die; if ye declare not this our matter, then it hath been, in Jehovah's giving to us this land, that we have done with thee kindness and truth.'

Bărbaţii aceia i-au răspuns:,, Sîntem gata să murim pentru voi, dacă nu ne daţi pe faţă; şi cînd Domnul ne va da ţara aceasta, ne vom purta cu tine cu bunăvoinţă şi credincioşie.``

15 A nd she causeth them to go down by a rope through the window, for her house in the side of the wall, and in the wall she dwelling;

Ea i -a pogorît cu o funie pe fereastră, căci casa în care locuia era lîngă zidul cetăţii.

16 a nd she saith to them, `To the mountain go, lest the pursuers come upon you; and ye have been hidden there three days till the turning back of the pursuers, and afterwards ye go on your way.'

Şi le -a zis:,, Duceţi-vă spre munte, ca să nu vă întîlnească ceice vă urmăresc; ascundeţi-vă acolo trei zile, pînă se vor întoarce; după aceea, să vă vedeţi de drum.``

17 A nd the men say unto her, `We are acquitted of this thine oath which thou hast caused us to swear:

Bărbaţii aceia i-au zis:,, Iată cum vom fi deslegaţi de jurămîntul pe care ne-ai pus să -l facem.

18 l o, we are coming into the land, this line of scarlet thread thou dost bind to the window by which thou hast caused us to go down, and thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all the house of thy father thou dost gather unto thee, to the house;

La intrarea noastră în ţară, leagă funia aceasta de fir cărmiziu la fereastra prin care ne-ai pogorît, şi strînge la tine în casă pe tatăl tău, pe mama ta, pe fraţii tăi, şi pe toată familia tatălui tău.

19 a nd it hath been, any one who goeth out from the doors of thy house without, his blood on his head, and we are innocent; and any one who is with thee in the house, his blood on our head, if a hand is on him;

Dacă vreunul din ei va ieşi pe poarta casei tale, ca să meargă afară pe uliţă, sîngele lui va cădea asupra capului lui, şi noi vom fi nevinovaţi: dar dacă va pune cineva mîna pe vreunul din ceice vor fi cu tine în casă, sîngele lui va cădea asupra capului nostru.

20 a nd if thou declare this our matter, then we have been acquitted from thine oath which thou hast caused us to swear.'

Şi dacă ne vei da pe faţă, vom fi deslegaţi de jurămîntul pe care ne-ai pus să -l facem.``

21 A nd she saith, `According unto your words, so it;' and she sendeth them away, and they go; and she bindeth the scarlet line to the window.

Ea a răspuns:,, Fie după cuvintele voastre.`` Şi -a luat rămas bun dela ei, şi ei au plecat. Ea a legat funia cărmizie la fereastră.

22 A nd they go, and come in to the mountain, and abide there three days until the pursuers have turned back; and the pursuers seek in all the way, and have not found.

Ei au plecat, şi au ajuns la munte, unde au rămas trei zile, pînă s'au întors cei cari -i urmăreau. Cei care -i urmăreau i-au căutat pe tot drumul, dar nu i-au găsit.

23 A nd the two men turn back, and come down from the hill, and pass over, and come in unto Joshua son of Nun, and recount to him all that hath come upon them;

Cei doi oameni s'au întors, s'au pogorît din munte, şi au trecut Iordanul. Au venit la Iosua, fiul lui Nun, şi i-au istorisit tot ce li se întîmplase.

24 a nd they say unto Joshua, `Surely Jehovah hath given into our hand all the land; and also, all the inhabitants of the land have melted at our presence.'

Ei au zis lui Iosua:,, Cu adevărat, Domnul a dat toată ţara în mînile noastre, şi toţi locuitorii ţării tremură înaintea noastră.``
