1 A nd in the twenty and fourth day of this month have the sons of Israel been gathered, with fasting, and with sackcloth, and earth upon them;

În a douăzeci şi patra zi a aceleiaş luni, copiii lui Israel s'au adunat, îmbrăcaţi în saci şi presăraţi cu ţărînă, pentru ţinerea unui post.

2 a nd the seed of Israel are separated from all sons of a stranger, and stand and confess concerning their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers,

Cei ce erau din neamul lui Israel, despărţindu-se de toţi străinii, au venit şi şi-au mărturisit păcatele lor şi fărădelegile părinţilor lor.

3 a nd rise up on their station, and read in the book of the law of Jehovah their God a fourth of the day, and a fourth they are confessing and bowing themselves to Jehovah their God.

După ce au şezut jos, au cetit în cartea Legii Domnului, Dumnezeului lor, a patra parte din zi; şi altă a patra parte din zi şi-au mărturisit păcatele şi s'au închinat înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeului lor.

4 A nd there stand up on the ascent, of the Levites, Jeshua, and Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, Chenani, and they cry with a loud voice unto Jehovah their God.

Iosua, Bani, Cadmiel, Şebania, Buni, Şerebia, Bani şi Chenani s'au suit pe scaunul Leviţilor şi au strigat cu glas tare către Domnul, Dumnezeul lor.

5 A nd the Levites say, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, Pethahiah, `Rise, bless Jehovah your God, from the age unto the age, and they bless the name of Thine honour that exalted above all blessing and praise.

Şi Leviţii Iosua, Cadmiel, Bani, Haşabnia, Şerebia, Hodia, Şebania şi Petahia, au zis:,, Sculaţi-vă şi binecuvîntaţi pe Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, din vecinicie în vecinicie!,, Binecuvîntat să fie Numele Tău cel slăvit, care este mai pe sus de orice binecuvîntare şi de orice laudă!

6 T hou He, O Jehovah, Thyself -- Thou hast made the heavens, the heavens of the heavens, and all their host, the earth and all that on it, the seas and all that in them, and Thou art keeping all of them alive, and the host of the heavens to Thee are bowing themselves.

Tu, Doamne, numai Tu, ai făcut cerurile, cerurile cerurilor şi toată oştirea lor, şi pămîntul cu tot ce este pe el, mările cu tot ce cuprind ele. Tu dai viaţă tuturor acestor lucruri, şi oştirea cerurilor se închină înaintea Ta.

7 ` Thou He, O Jehovah God, who didst fix on Abraham, and didst bring him out from Ur of the Chaldeans, and didst make his name Abraham,

Tu, Doamne Dumnezeule, ai ales pe Avram, l-ai scos din Ur din Haldeia, şi i-ai pus numele Avraam.

8 a nd didst find his heart stedfast before Thee, so as to make with him the covenant, to give the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite, and the Girgashite, to give to his seed. `And Thou dost establish Thy words, for Thou righteous,

Tu ai găsit inima lui credincioasă înainta Ta, ai făcut legămînt cu el, şi ai făgăduit că vei da seminţei lui ţara Cananiţilor, Hetiţilor, Amoriţilor, Fereziţilor, Iebusiţilor şi Ghirgasiţilor. Şi Ţi-ai ţinut cuvîntul, căci eşti drept.

9 a nd dost see the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, and their cry hast heard by the sea of Suph,

Tu ai văzut necazul părinţilor noştri în Egipt, şi le-ai auzit strigătele la Marea Roşie.

10 a nd dost give signs and wonders on Pharaoh, and on all his servants, and on all the people of his land, for Thou hast known that they have acted proudly against them, and Thou makest to Thee a name as this day.

Ai făcut semne şi minuni împotriva lui Faraon, împotriva tuturor slujitorilor lui şi împotriva întregului popor din ţara lui, pentrucă ştiai cu cîtă îngîmfare se purtaseră faţă de părinţii noştri, şi Ţi-ai arătat slava Ta cum se vede astăzi.

11 A nd the sea Thou hast cleaved before them, and they pass over into the midst of the sea on the dry land, and their pursuers Thou hast cast into the depths, as a stone, into the strong waters.

Ai despărţit marea înaintea lor, şi au trecut pe uscat prin mijlocul mării: dar ai prăbuşit în adînc, ca o piatră în fundul apelor, pe cei ce -i urmăreau.

12 A nd by a pillar of cloud Thou hast led them by day, and by a pillar of fire by night, to lighten to them the way in which they go.

I-ai călăuzit ziua printr'un stîlp de nor, şi noaptea printr'un stîlp de foc, care le lumina drumul pe care aveau să -l urmeze.

13 ` And on mount Sinai Thou hast come down, even to speak with them from the heavens, and Thou dost give to them right judgments, and true laws, good statutes and commands.

Te-ai pogorît pe muntele Sinai, le-ai vorbit din înălţimea cerurilor, şi le-ai dat porunci drepte, legi adevărate, învăţături şi orînduiri minunate.

14 A nd Thy holy sabbath Thou hast made known to them, and commands, and statutes, and law, Thou hast commanded for them, by the hand of Moses Thy servant;

Le-ai făcut cunoscut Sabatul Tău cel sfînt, şi le-ai dat prin robul Tău Moise, porunci, învăţături şi o lege.

15 a nd bread from the heavens Thou hast given to them for their hunger, and water from a rock hast brought out to them for their thirst, and dost say to them to go in to possess the land that Thou hast lifted up Thy hand to give to them.

Le-ai dat, dela înălţimea cerurilor, pîne, cînd le era foame, şi ai scos apă din stîncă, atunci cînd le era sete. Şi le-ai spus să intre în stăpînirea ţării pe care jurasei că le -o vei da.

16 ` And they and our fathers have acted proudly, and harden their neck, and have not hearkened unto Thy commands,

Dar părinţii noştri s'au îngîmfat şi şi-au înţepenit grumazul. N'au urmat poruncile Tale,

17 y ea, they refuse to hearken, and have not remembered Thy wonders that Thou hast done with them, and harden their neck and appoint a head, to turn back to their service, in their rebellion; and Thou a God of pardons, gracious, and merciful, long-suffering, and abundant in kindness, and hast not forsaken them.

n'au vrut să asculte, şi au dat uitării minunile pe cari le făcusei pentru ei. Şi-au înţepenit grumazul; şi, în răzvrătirea lor, şi-au pus o căpetenie ca să se întoarcă în robia lor. Dar Tu, Tu eşti un Dumnezeu gata să ierţi, îndurător şi milostiv, încet la mînie şi bogat în bunătate. Şi nu i-ai părăsit,

18 ` Also, when they have made to themselves a molten calf, and say, this thy god that brought thee up out of Egypt, and do great despisings,

nici chiar atunci cînd şi-au făcut un viţel turnat, şi au zis:,, Iată Dumnezeul tău care te -a scos din Egipt!`` şi s'au dedat la mari ocări faţă de Tine.

19 a nd Thou, in Thine abundant mercies, hast not forsaken them in the wilderness -- the pillar of the cloud hath not turned aside from off them by day, to lead them in the way, and the pillar of the fire by night, to give light to them and the way in which they go.

În îndurarea Ta fără margini, nu i-ai părăsit în pustie, şi stîlpul de nor n'a încetat să -i călăuzească ziua pe drum, nici stîlpul de foc să le lumineze noaptea drumul, pe care aveau să -l urmeze.

20 ` And Thy good Spirit Thou hast given, to cause them to act wisely; and Thy manna Thou hast not withheld from their mouth, and water Thou hast given to them for their thirst,

Le-ai dat Duhul Tău cel bun, ca să -i facă înţelepţi; n'ai îndepărtat mana Ta dela gura lor, şi le-ai dat apă să-şi potolească setea.

21 a nd forty years Thou hast nourished them in a wilderness; they have not lacked; their garments have not worn out, and their feet have not swelled.

Patruzeci de ani, ai avut grijă să -i hrăneşti în pustie, şi n'au dus lipsă de nimic, hainele nu li s'au învechit, şi picioarele nu li s'au umflat.

22 ` And Thou givest to them kingdoms, and peoples, and dost apportion them to the corner, and they possess the land of Sihon, and the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan.

Le-ai dat în mînă împărăţii şi popoare, ale căror ţinuturi le-ai împărţit între ei, şi au stăpînit ţara lui Sihon, împăratul Hesbonului, şi ţara lui Og, împăratul Basanului.

23 A nd their sons Thou hast multiplied as the stars of the heavens, and bringest them in unto the land that Thou hast said to their fathers to go in to possess.

Le-ai înmulţit fiii ca stelele cerurilor, şi i-ai adus în ţara despre care spusesei părinţilor lor că au s'o ia în stăpînire.

24 ` And the sons come in, and possess the land, and Thou humblest before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and givest them into their hand, and their kings, and the peoples of the land, to do with them according to their pleasure.

Şi fiii lor au intrat şi au luat ţara în stăpînire; ai smerit înaintea lor pe locuitorii ţării, Cananiţii, şi i-ai dat în mînile lor, împreună cu împăraţii şi popoarele ţării, ca să le facă ce le place.

25 A nd they capture fenced cities, and fat ground, and possess houses full of all good, digged-wells, vineyards, and olive-yards, and fruit-trees in abundance, and they eat, and are satisfied, and become fat, and delight themselves in Thy great goodness.

Au ajuns stăpîni pe cetăţi întărite şi pe pămînturi roditoare; au stăpînit case pline de tot felul de bunătăţi, puţuri săpate, vii, măslini, şi pomi roditori din belşug; au mîncat, s'au săturat, s'au îngrăşat, şi au trăit în desfătări, prin bunătatea Ta cea mare.

26 ` And they are disobedient, and rebel against Thee, and cast Thy law behind their back, and Thy prophets they have slain, who testified against them, to bring them back unto Thee, and they do great despisings,

Totuş, ei s'au răsculat şi s'au răzvrătit împotriva Ta. Au aruncat Legea Ta la spatele lor, au ucis pe proorocii Tăi, cari -i rugau ferbinte să se întoarcă la Tine, şi s'au dedat la mari ocări faţă de Tine.

27 a nd Thou givest them into the hand of their adversaries, and they distress them, and in the time of their distress they cry unto Thee, and Thou, from the heavens, dost hear, and, according to Thine abundant mercies, dost give to them saviours, and they save them out of the hand of their adversaries.

Atunci i-ai lăsat în mînile vrăjmaşilor lor, cari i-au apăsat. Dar, în vremea necazului lor, au strigat către Tine; şi Tu i-ai auzit dela înălţimea cerurilor, şi, în îndurarea Ta cea mare, le-ai dat izbăvitori cari i-au scăpat din mînile vrăjmaşilor lor.

28 ` And when they have rest, they turn back to do evil before Thee, and Thou dost leave them in the hand of their enemies, and they rule over them; and they turn back, and call Thee, and Thou from the heavens dost hear, and dost deliver them, according to Thy mercies, many times,

Cînd au avut odihnă, au început iarăş să facă rău, înaintea Ta. Atunci i-ai lăsat în mînile vrăjmaşilor lor, cari i-au stăpînit. Dar, din nou au strigat către Tine; şi Tu i-ai auzit dela înălţimea cerurilor, şi, în marea Ta îndurare, i-ai izbăvit de mai multe ori.

29 a nd dost testify against them, to bring them back unto Thy law; and they -- they have acted proudly, and have not hearkened to Thy commands, and against Thy judgments have sinned, -- which man doth and hath lived in them -- and they give a refractory shoulder, and their neck have hardened, and have not hearkened.

I-ai rugat fierbinte să se întoarcă la Legea Ta; dar ei au stăruit în îngîmfarea lor, n'au ascultat de poruncile Tale, au păcătuit împotriva orînduirilor Tale, cari fac viu pe celce le împlineşte, Ţi-au întors spatele cu îndărătnicie, şi-au înţepenit grumazul, şi n'au ascultat.

30 ` And Thou drawest over them many years, and testifiest against them by Thy Spirit, by the hand of Thy prophets, and they have not given ear, and Thou dost give them into the hand of peoples of the lands,

I-ai îngăduit astfel mulţi ani, le-ai dat înştiinţări prin Duhul tău, prin prooroci, şi tot n'au luat aminte. Atunci i-ai dat în mînile unor popoare străine.

31 a nd in Thine abundant mercies Thou hast not made them a consumption, nor hast forsaken them; for a God, gracious and merciful, Thou.

Dar, în marea Ta îndurare, nu i-ai nimicit, şi nu i-ai părăsit, căci Tu eşti un Dumnezeu milostiv şi îndurător.

32 ` And now, O our God -- God, the great, the mighty, and the fearful, keeping the covenant and the kindness -- let not all the travail that hath found us be little before Thee, for our kings, for our heads, and for our priests, and for our prophets, and for our fathers, and for all Thy people, from the days of the kings of Asshur unto this day;

Şi acum, Dumnezeul nostru, Dumnezeule mare, puternic şi înfricoşat, Tu care Îţi ţii legămîntul Tău de îndurare, nu privi ca puţin lucru toate suferinţele prin cari am trecut noi, împăraţii noştri, căpeteniile noastre, preoţii noştri, proorocii noştri, părinţii noştri şi tot poporul Tău, din vremea împăraţilor Asiriei pînă în ziua de azi.

33 a nd Thou righteous concerning all that hath come upon us, for truth Thou hast done, and we have done wickedly;

Tu ai fost drept în tot ce ni s'a întîmplat, căci Te-ai arătat credincios, iar noi am făcut rău.

34 a nd our kings, our heads, our priests, and our fathers, have not done Thy law, nor attended unto Thy commands, and to Thy testimonies, that Thou hast testified against them;

Împăraţii noştri, căpeteniile noastre, preoţii noştri, şi părinţii noştri n'au păzit Legea, şi n'au dat ascultare nici poruncilor, nici înştiinţărilor pe cari li le dădeai.

35 a nd they, in their kingdom, and in Thine abundant goodness, that Thou hast given to them, and in the land, the large and the fat, that Thou hast set before them, have not served Thee, nor turned back from their evil doings.

Cînd erau stăpîni, în mijlocul multelor binefaceri pe cari li le dădeai, în ţara întinsă şi roditoare, pe care le -o dădusei, nu Ţi-au slujit şi nu s'au abătut dela faptele lor rele.

36 ` Lo, we -- to-day -- servants, and the land that Thou hast given to our fathers, to eat its fruit and its good -- lo, we servants on it,

Şi astăzi, iată-ne robi! Iată-ne robi pe pămîntul pe care l-ai dat părinţilor noştri, pentruca să se bucure de roadele şi de bunurile lui!

37 a nd its increase it is multiplying to the kings whom Thou hast set over us in our sins; and over our bodies they are ruling, and over our cattle, according to their pleasure, and we in great distress.

El îşi înmulţeşte roadele pentru împăraţii cărora ne-ai supus, din pricina păcatelor noastre; ei stăpînesc după plac asupra trupurilor noastre şi asupra vitelor noastre, şi sîntem într'o mare strîmtorare!``

38 A nd for all this we are making a stedfast covenant, and are writing, and over him who is sealed our heads, our Levites, our priests.'

Pentru toate acestea, noi am încheiat un legămînt, pe care l-am făcut în scris. Şi căpeteniile noastre, Leviţii noştri şi preoţii noştri şi-au pus pecetea pe el.
