1 L et a man so reckon us as officers of Christ, and stewards of the secrets of God,

Iată cum trebuie să fim priviţi noi: ca nişte slujitori ai lui Hristos, şi ca nişte ispravnici ai tainelor lui Dumnezeu.

2 a nd as to the rest, it is required in the stewards that one may be found faithful,

Încolo, ce se cere dela ispravnici, este ca fiecare să fie găsit credincios în lucrul încredinţat lui.

3 a nd to me it is for a very little thing that by you I may be judged, or by man's day, but not even myself do I judge,

Cît despre mine, prea puţin îmi pasă dacă sînt judecat de voi sau de un scaun omenesc de judecată. Ba încă, nici eu însumi nu mă mai judec pe mine.

4 f or of nothing to myself have I been conscious, but not in this have I been declared right -- and he who is discerning me is the Lord:

Căci n'am nimic împotriva mea; totuş nu pentru aceasta sînt socotit neprihănit: Cel ce mă judecă, este Domnul.

5 s o, then, nothing before the time judge ye, till the Lord may come, who will both bring to light the hidden things of the darkness, and will manifest the counsels of the hearts, and then the praise shall come to each from God.

De aceea să nu judecaţi nimic înainte de vreme, pînă va veni Domnul, care va scoate la lumină lucrurile ascunse în întunerec, şi va descoperi gîndurile inimilor. Atunci, fiecare îşi va căpăta lauda dela Dumnezeu.

6 A nd these things, brethren, I did transfer to myself and to Apollos because of you, that in us ye may learn not to think above that which hath been written, that ye may not be puffed up one for one against the other,

Fraţilor, pentru voi am spus aceste lucruri, în icoană de vorbire, cu privire la mine şi la Apolo, ca prin noi înşine, să învăţaţi să nu treceţi peste,, ce este scris``: şi nici unul din voi să nu se fălească de loc cu unul împotriva celuilalt.

7 f or who doth make thee to differ? and what hast thou, that thou didst not receive? and if thou didst also receive, why dost thou glory as not having received?

Căci cine te face deosebit? Ce lucru ai, pe care să nu -l fi primit? Şi dacă l-ai primit, de ce te lauzi ca şi cum nu l-ai fi primit?

8 A lready ye are having been filled, already ye were rich, apart from us ye did reign, and I would also ye did reign, that we also with you may reign together,

O, iată-vă sătui! Iată-vă ajunşi bogaţi! Iată-vă împărăţind fără noi! Şi măcar de aţi împărăţi cu adevărat ca să putem împărăţi şi noi împreună cu voi!

9 f or I think that God did set forth us the apostles last -- as appointed to death, because a spectacle we became to the world, and messengers, and men;

Căci parcă Dumnezeu a făcut din noi, apostolii, oamenii cei mai de pe urmă, nişte osîndiţi la moarte; fiindcă am ajuns o privelişte pentru lume, îngeri şi oameni.

10 w e fools because of Christ, and ye wise in Christ; we ailing, and ye strong; ye glorious, and we dishonoured;

Noi sîntem nebuni pentru Hristos: voi, înţelepţi în Hristos! Noi, slabi: voi, tari! Voi, puşi în cinste: noi, dispreţuiţi!

11 u nto the present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and wander about,

Pînă în clipa aceasta suferim de foame şi de sete, sîntem goi, chinuiţi, umblăm din loc în loc,

12 a nd labour, working with own hands; being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer;

ne ostenim şi lucrăm cu mînile noastre; cînd sîntem ocărîţi, binecuvîntăm; cînd sîntem prigoniţi, răbdăm;

13 b eing spoken evil of, we entreat; as filth of the world we did become -- of all things an offscouring -- till now.

cînd sîntem vorbiţi de rău, ne rugăm. Pînă în ziua de azi am ajuns ca gunoiul lumii acesteia, ca lepădătura tuturor.

14 N ot putting you to shame do I write these things, but as my beloved children I do admonish,

Nu vă scriu aceste lucruri, ca să vă fac ruşine; ci ca să vă sfătuiesc ca pe nişte copii prea iubiţi ai mei.

15 f or if a myriad of child-conductors ye may have in Christ, yet not many fathers; for in Christ Jesus, through the good news, I -- I did beget you;

Căci chiar dacă aţi avea zece mii de învăţători în Hristos, totuş n'aveţi mai mulţi părinţi; pentrucă eu v'am născut în Hristos Isus, prin Evanghelie.

16 I call upon you, therefore, become ye followers of me;

Deaceea vă rog să călcaţi pe urmele mele.

17 b ecause of this I sent to you Timotheus, who is my child, beloved and faithful in the Lord, who shall remind you of my ways in Christ, according as everywhere in every assembly I teach.

Pentru aceasta v'am trimes pe Timotei, care este copilul meu prea iubit şi credincios în Domnul. El vă va aduce aminte de felul meu de purtare în Hristos şi de felul cum învăţ eu pe oameni pretutindeni în toate Bisericile.

18 A nd as if I were not coming unto you certain were puffed up;

Unii s'au îngîmfat, şi şi-au închipuit că n'am să mai vin la voi.

19 b ut I will come quickly unto you, if the Lord may will, and I will know not the word of those puffed up, but the power;

Dar dacă va voi Domnul, voi veni în curînd la voi, şi atunci voi vedea nu vorbele, ci puterea celorce s'au îngîmfat.

20 f or not in word is the reign of God, but in power?

Căci Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu nu stă în vorbe, ci în putere.

21 w hat do ye wish? with a rod shall I come unto you, or in love, with a spirit also of meekness?

Ce voiţi? Să vin la voi cu nuiaua, sau cu dragoste şi cu duhul blîndeţei?
