1 A nd it cometh to pass, after the death of Joshua, that the sons of Israel ask at Jehovah, saying, `Who doth go up for us unto the Canaanite, at the commencement, to fight against it?'

După moartea lui Iosua, copiii lui Israel au întrebat pe Domnul, şi au zis:,, Cine dintre noi să se suie întîi împotriva Cananiţilor, ca să pornească lupta cu ei?``

2 A nd Jehovah saith, `Judah doth go up; lo, I have given the land into his hand.'

Domnul a răspuns:,, Iuda să se suie; iată că am dat ţara în mînile lui.`

3 A nd Judah saith to Simeon his brother, `Go up with me into my lot, and we fight against the Canaanite -- and I have gone, even I, with thee into thy lot;' and Simeon goeth with him.

Şi Iuda a zis fratelui său Simeon:,, Suie-te împreună cu mine în ţara care mi -a căzut la sorţ, şi să luptăm împotriva Cananiţilor; şi voi merge şi eu cu tine în ţara care ţi -a căzut la sorţ.`` Şi Simeon s'a dus cu el.

4 A nd Judah goeth up, and Jehovah giveth the Canaanite and the Perizzite into their hand, and they smite them in Bezek -- ten thousand men;

Iuda s'a suit, şi Domnul a dat pe Cananiţi şi pe Fereziţi în mînile lor; au ucis zece mii de oameni la Bezec.

5 a nd they find Adoni-Bezek in Bezek, and fight against him, and smite the Canaanite and the Perizzite.

Au găsit pe Adoni-Bezec la Bezec; au pornit lupta împotriva lui, şi au bătut pe Cananiţi şi Fereziţi.

6 A nd Adoni-Bezek fleeth, and they pursue after him, and seize him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes,

Adoni-Bezec a luat fuga; dar ei l-au urmărit şi l-au prins, şi i-au tăiat degetele cele mari dela mîni şi dela picioare.

7 a nd Adoni-Bezek saith, `Seventy kings -- their thumbs and their great toes cut off -- have been gathering under my table; as I have done so hath God repaid to me;' and they bring him in to Jerusalem, and he dieth there.

Adoni-Bezec a zis:,,Şapte zeci de împăraţi, cu degetele cele mari dela mîni şi dela picioare tăiate, strîngeau mîncare subt masa mea; Dumnezeu îmi răsplăteşte şi mie cum am făcut`.` L-au dus la Ierusalim şi a murit acolo.

8 A nd the sons of Judah fight against Jerusalem, and capture it, and smite it by the mouth of the sword, and the city they have sent into fire;

Fiii lui Iuda au pornit lupta împotriva Ierusalimului şi l-au luat; l-au trecut prin ascuţişul săbiei şi au dat foc cetăţii.

9 a nd afterwards have the sons of Judah gone down to fight against the Canaanite, inhabiting the hill-country, and the south, and the low country;

Fiii lui Iuda s'au pogorît apoi, ca să bată pe Cananiţi, cari locuiau muntele, ţinutul de miazăzi şi cîmpia.

10 a nd Judah goeth unto the Canaanite who is dwelling in Hebron (and the name of Hebron formerly Kirjath-Arba), and they smite Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

Iuda a pornit împotriva Cananiţilor cari locuiau la Hebron, numit mai înainte Chiriat-Arba; şi a bătut pe Şeşai, pe Ahiman şi Talmai.

11 A nd he goeth thence unto the inhabitants of Debir (and the name of Debir formerly Kirjath-Sepher),

De acolo a pornit împotriva locuitorilor Debirului: Debirul se numea mai înainte Chiriat-Sefer.

12 a nd Caleb saith, `He who smiteth Kirjath-Sepher -- and hath captured it -- then I have given to him Achsah my daughter for a wife.'

Caleb a zis:,, Voi da pe fiică-mea Acsa de nevastă cui va bate Chiriat-Seferul şi -l va lua.``

13 A nd Othniel son of Kenaz, younger brother of Caleb, doth capture it, and he giveth to him Achsah his daughter for a wife.

Otniel, fiul lui Chenaz, fratele cel mai mic al lui Caleb, a pus mîna pe cetate; şi Caleb i -a dat de nevastă pe fiică-sa Acsa.

14 A nd it cometh to pass in her coming in, that she persuadeth him to ask from her father the field, and she lighteth from off the ass, and Caleb saith to her, `What -- to thee?'

Cînd a intrat ea la Otniel, l -a îndemnat să ceară un ogor dela tatăl ei. Ea s'a pogorît depe măgar; şi Caleb i -a zis:,, Ce vrei?``

15 A nd she saith to him, `Give to me a blessing; when the south land thou hast given me -- then thou hast given to me springs of water; and Caleb giveth to her the upper springs and the lower springs.

Ea i -a răspuns:,, Dă-mi un dar, căci mi-ai dat un pămînt secetos; dă-mi şi izvoare de apă.`` Şi Caleb i -a dat Izvoarele de sus şi Izvoarele de jos.

16 A nd the sons of the Kenite, father-in-law of Moses, have gone up out of the city of palms with the sons of Judah the wilderness of Judah, which in the south of Arad, and they go and dwell with the people.

Fiii Chenitului, socrul lui Moise, s'au suit din cetatea Finicilor, împreună cu fiii lui Iuda, în pustia lui Iuda la miazăzi de Arad, şi s'au dus de s'au aşezat între popor.

17 A nd Judah goeth with Simeon his brother, and they smite the Canaanite inhabiting Zephath, and devote it; and calleth the name of the city Hormah.

Iuda a pornit cu fratele său Simeon, şi au bătut pe Cananiţi cari locuiau la Ţefat; au nimicit cetatea cu desăvîrşire, şi au numit -o Horma (Nimicire).

18 A nd Judah captureth Gaza and its border, and Askelon and its border, and Ekron and its border;

Iuda a mai pus mîna pe Gaza şi pe ţinutul ei, pe Ascalon şi pe ţinutul lui, şi pe Ecron şi pe ţinutul lui.

19 a nd Jehovah is with Judah, and he occupieth the hill-country, but not to dispossess the inhabitants of the valley, for they have chariots of iron.

Domnul a fost cu Iuda; şi Iuda a pus stăpînire pe munte, dar n'a putut să izgonească pe locuitorii din cîmpie, pentrucă aveau cară de fer.

20 A nd they give to Caleb Hebron, as Moses hath spoken, and he dispossesseth thence the three sons of Anak.

Au dat Hebronul lui Calebm cum spusese Moise; şi el a izgonit deacolo pe cei trei fii ai lui Anac.``

21 A nd the Jebusite, inhabiting Jerusalem, the sons of Benjamin have not dispossessed; and the Jebusite dwelleth with the sons of Benjamin, in Jerusalem, till this day.

Fiii lui Beniamin n'au izgonit pe Iebusiţii cari locuiau la Ierusalim; şi Iebusiţii au locuit în Ierusalim cu fiii lui Beniamin pînă în ziua de azi.

22 A nd the house of Joseph go up -- even they -- to Beth-El, and Jehovah with them;

Casa lui Iosif s'a suit şi ea împotriva Betelului, şi Domnul a fost cu ei.

23 a nd the house of Joseph cause to spy about Beth-El (and the name of the city formerly is Luz),

Cei din casa lui Iosif au iscodit Betelul, care mai nainte se chema Luz.

24 a nd the watchers see a man coming out from the city, and say to him, `Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance of the city, and we have done with thee kindness.'

Străjerii au văzut pe un om ieşind din cetate, şi i-au zis:,, Arată-ne pe unde putem intra în cetate, şi vom avea milă de tine.``

25 A nd he sheweth them the entrance of the city, and they smite the city by the mouth of the sword, and the man and all his family they have sent away;

El le -a arătat pe unde ar putea să intre în cetate. Şi au trecut cetatea prin ascuţişul săbiei; dar pe omul acela l-au lăsat să plece cu toată familia lui.

26 a nd the man goeth to the land of the Hittites, and buildeth a city, and calleth its name Luz -- it its name unto this day.

Omul acela s'a dus în ţara Hetiţilor; a zidit o cetate, şi i -a pus numele Luz, nume pe care l -a purtat pînă în ziua de azi.

27 A nd Manasseh hath not occupied Beth-Shean and its towns, and Taanach and its towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of Iblaim and its towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns, and the Canaanite is desirous to dwell in that land;

Manase n'a izgonit nici el pe locuitorii din Bet-Şean şi din satele dimprejurul lui, din Taanac şi satele lui, din Dor şi satele dimprejurul lui, din Iibleam şi satele dimprejurul lui, din Meghido şi satele dimprejurul lui; aşa încît Cananiţii au izbutit să rămînă în ţara aceasta.

28 a nd it cometh to pass, when Israel hath been strong, that he setteth the Canaanite to tribute, and hath not utterly dispossessed it.

Cînd Israel a fost destul de tare, a supus pe Cananiţi la un bir, dar nu i -a izgonit.

29 A nd Ephraim hath not dispossessed the Canaanite who is dwelling in Gezer, and the Canaanite dwelleth in its midst, in Gezer.

Efraim n'a izgonit pe Cananiţii cari locuiau la Ghezer, şi Cananiţii au locuit în mijlocul lui Efraim la Ghezer.

30 Z ebulun hath not dispossessed the inhabitants of Kitron, and the inhabitants of Nahalol, and the Canaanite dwelleth in its midst, and they become tributary.

Zabulon n'a izgonit nici el pe locuitorii din Chitron, nici pe locuitorii din Nahalol; şi Cananiţii au locuit în mijlocul lui Zabulon, dar au fost supuşi la un bir.

31 A sher hath not dispossessed the inhabitants of Accho, and the inhabitants of Zidon, and Ahlab, and Achzib, and Helbah, and Aphik, and Rehob;

Nici Aşer n'a izgonit pe locuitorii din Aco, nici pe locuitorii din Sidon, nici pe cei din Ahlab, din Aczib, din Helba, din Afic şi din Rehob;

32 a nd the Asherite dwelleth in the midst of the Canaanite, the inhabitants of the land, for it hath not dispossessed them.

şi Aşeriţii au locuit în mijlocul Cananiţilor, locuitorii ţării, căci nu i-au izgonit.

33 N aphtali hath not dispossessed the inhabitants of Beth-Shemesh, and the inhabitants of Beth-Anath, and he dwelleth in the midst of the Canaanite, the inhabitants of the land; and the inhabitants of Beth-Shemesh and of Beth-Anath have become tributary to them.

Neftali n'a izgonit pe locuitorii din Bet-Şemeş, nici pe locuitorii din Bet-Anat, şi a locuit în mijlocul Cananiţilor, locuitorii ţării; dar locuitorii din Bet-Şemeş şi din Bet-Anat au fost supuşi la un bir.

34 A nd the Amorites press the sons of Dan to the mountain, for they have not suffered them to go down to the valley;

Amoriţii au dat înapoi în munte pe fiii lui Dan, şi nu i-au lăsat să se coboare în cîmpie.

35 a nd the Amorite is desirous to dwell in mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim, and the hand of the house of Joseph is heavy, and they become tributary;

Amoriţii au izbutit să rămînă la Har-Heres, la Aialon şi la Şaalbim; dar mîna casei lui Iosif a apăsat asupra lor, şi au fost supuşi la un bir.

36 a nd the border of the Amorite from the ascent of Akrabbim, from the rock and upward.

Ţinutul Amoriţilor se întindea dela suişul Acrabim, dela Sela, şi în sus.
