1 A word of Jehovah that hath been unto Zephaniah son of Cushi, son of Gedaliah, son of Amariah, son of Hezikiah, in the days of Josiah son of Amoz, king of Judah:

Cuvîntul Domnului, care fost spus lui Ţefania, fiul lui Cuşi, fiul lui Ghedalia, fiul lui Amaria, fiul lui Ezechia, pe vremea lui Iosia, fiul lui Amon, împăratul lui Iuda.

2 I utterly consume all from off the face of the ground, An affirmation of Jehovah.

Voi nimici totul de pe faţa pămîntului, zice Domnul.``

3 I consume man and beast, I consume fowl of the heavens, and fishes of the sea, And the stumbling-blocks -- the wicked, And I have cut off man from the face of the ground, An affirmation of Jehovah,

Voi nimici oamenii şi vitele, păsările cerului şi peştii mării, pietrele de poticnire, şi pe cei răi împreună cu ele; voi nimici cu desăvîrşire pe oameni de pe faţa pămîntului, zice Domnul.``

4 A nd stretched out My hand against Judah, And against all inhabiting Jerusalem, And cut off from this place the remnant of Baal, The name of the idolatrous priests, with the priests,

voi întinde mîna împotriva lui Iuda, şi împotriva tuturor locuitorilor Ierusalimului; voi nimici cu desăvîrşire din locul acesta rămăşiţele lui Baal, numele slujitorilor săi şi preoţii împreună cu ei,

5 A nd those bowing themselves On the roofs to the host of the heavens, And those bowing themselves, Swearing to Jehovah, and swearing by Malcham,

pe ceice se închină pe acoperişuri înaintea oştirii cerurilor, pe cei ce se închină jurînd pe Domnul, dar cari jură şi pe împăratul lor Malcam,

6 A nd those removing from after Jehovah, And who have not sought Jehovah, nor besought Him.

pe cei ce s'au abătut dela Domnul, şi pe cei ce nu caută pe Domnul, nici nu întreabă de El.``

7 H ush! because of the Lord Jehovah, For near a day of Jehovah, For prepared hath Jehovah a sacrifice, He hath sanctified His invited ones.

Tăcere înaintea Domnului Dumnezeu! Căci ziua Domnului este aproape, căci Domnul a pregătit jertfa, Şi -a sfinţit oaspeţii.

8 A nd it hath come to pass, In the day of the sacrifice of Jehovah, That I have laid a charge on the heads, And on sons of the king, And on all putting on strange clothing.

În ziua jertfei Domnului voi pedepsi pe voivozii şi fiii împăratului, şi pe toţi cei ce poartă haine străine.

9 A nd I have laid a charge on every one Who is leaping over the threshold in that day, Who are filling the house of their masters violence and deceit.

În ziua aceea, voi pedepsi şi pe toţi cei ce sar peste prag, pe cei ce umplu de silnicie şi de înşelăciune casa stăpînului lor.

10 A nd there hath been in that day, An affirmation of Jehovah, The noise of a cry from the fish-gate, And of a howling from the Second, And of great destruction from the hills.

În ziua aceea, zice Domnul, se vor auzi strigăte de jale la poarta peştilor, urlete în cealaltă mahala a cetăţii, şi un mare prăpăd de dealuri.

11 H owl, ye inhabitants of the hollow place, For cut off hath been all the merchant people, Cut off have been all bearing silver.

Văitaţi-vă locuitori din Macteş. Căci toţi cei ce fac negoţ sînt nimiciţi, toţi cei încărcaţi cu argint sînt nimiciţi cu desăvîrşire.

12 A nd it hath come to pass, at that time, I search Jerusalem with lights, And I have laid a charge on the men Who are hardened on their preserved things, Who are saying in their heart: Jehovah doth no good, nor doth He evil.

În vremea aceea, voi scormoni Ierusalimul cu felinare, şi voi pedepsi pe toţi oamenii cari se bizuiesc pe drojdiile lor, şi zic în inima lor:, Domnul nu va face nici bine nici rău!`

13 A nd their wealth hath been for a spoil, And their houses for desolation, And they have built houses, and do not inhabit, And they have planted vineyards, And they do not drink their wine.

Averile lor vor fi de jaf, şi casele lor vor fi pustiite; vor zidi case şi nu le vor locui, vor sădi vii, şi nu vor bea vin din ele.``

14 N ear the great day of Jehovah, Near, and hasting exceedingly, The noise of the day of Jehovah, Bitterly shriek there doth a mighty one.

Ziua cea mare a Domnului este aproape, este aproape şi vine în graba mare! Da, este aproape ziua cea amarnică a Domnului, şi viteazul ţipă cu amar.

15 A day of wrath that day, A day of adversity and distress, A day of waste and desolation, A day of darkness and gloominess, A day of cloud and thick darkness.

Ziua aceea este o zi de mînie, o zi de necaz şi de groază, o zi de pustiire şi nimicire, o zi de întunerec şi negură, o zi de nori şi de întunecime,

16 A day of trumpet and shouting against the fenced cities, And against the high corners.

o zi în care va răsuna trîmbiţa şi strigătele de război împotriva cetăţilor întărite şi turnurilor înalte.

17 A nd I have sent distress to men, And they have walked as the blind, For against Jehovah they have sinned, And poured out is their blood as dust, And their flesh as dung.

Atunci voi pune pe oameni la strîmtoare, şi vor bîjbăi ca nişte orbi, pentru că au păcătuit împotriva Domnului; de aceea le voi vărsa sîngele ca praful, şi carnea ca gunoiul!

18 E ven their silver, even their gold, Is not able to deliver them in a day of the wrath of Jehovah, And in the fire of His jealousy consumed is the whole land, For only a hastened end doth He make Of all the inhabitants of the land!

Nici argintul, nici aurul lor nu vor putea să -i izbăvească, în ziua mîniei Domnului; ci toată ţara va fi mistuită de focul geloziei Lui, căci va nimici deodată pe toţi locuitorii ţării.
