1 A word of Jehovah that hath been unto Zephaniah son of Cushi, son of Gedaliah, son of Amariah, son of Hezikiah, in the days of Josiah son of Amoz, king of Judah:

2 I utterly consume all from off the face of the ground, An affirmation of Jehovah.

“Destruirei todas as coisas na face da terra”; palavra do Senhor.

3 I consume man and beast, I consume fowl of the heavens, and fishes of the sea, And the stumbling-blocks -- the wicked, And I have cut off man from the face of the ground, An affirmation of Jehovah,

“Destruirei tanto os homens quanto os animais; destruirei as aves do céu e os peixes do mar, e os que causam tropeço junto com os ímpios. Farei isso quando eu ceifar o homem da face da terra”, declara o Senhor. O Castigo de Judá

4 A nd stretched out My hand against Judah, And against all inhabiting Jerusalem, And cut off from this place the remnant of Baal, The name of the idolatrous priests, with the priests,

“Estenderei a mão contra Judá e contra todos os habitantes de Jerusalém. Eliminarei deste lugar o remanescente de Baal, os nomes dos ministros idólatras e dos sacerdotes,

5 A nd those bowing themselves On the roofs to the host of the heavens, And those bowing themselves, Swearing to Jehovah, and swearing by Malcham,

aqueles que no alto dos terraços adoram o exército de estrelas, e aqueles que se prostram jurando pelo Senhor e também por Moloque;

6 A nd those removing from after Jehovah, And who have not sought Jehovah, nor besought Him.

aqueles que se desviam e deixam de seguir o Senhor, não o buscam nem o consultam.

7 H ush! because of the Lord Jehovah, For near a day of Jehovah, For prepared hath Jehovah a sacrifice, He hath sanctified His invited ones.

Calem-se diante do Soberano, o Senhor, pois o dia do Senhor está próximo. O Senhor preparou um sacrifício; consagrou seus convidados.

8 A nd it hath come to pass, In the day of the sacrifice of Jehovah, That I have laid a charge on the heads, And on sons of the king, And on all putting on strange clothing.

No dia do sacrifício do Senhor castigarei os líderes e os filhos do rei e todos os que estão vestidos com roupas estrangeiras.

9 A nd I have laid a charge on every one Who is leaping over the threshold in that day, Who are filling the house of their masters violence and deceit.

Naquele dia castigarei todos os que evitam pisar a soleira dos ídolos, e que enchem o templo de seus deuses com violência e engano.

10 A nd there hath been in that day, An affirmation of Jehovah, The noise of a cry from the fish-gate, And of a howling from the Second, And of great destruction from the hills.

“Naquele dia”, declara o Senhor, “haverá gritos perto da porta dos Peixes, lamentos no novo distrito, e estrondos nas colinas.

11 H owl, ye inhabitants of the hollow place, For cut off hath been all the merchant people, Cut off have been all bearing silver.

Lamentem-se, vocês que moram na cidade baixa; todos os seus comerciantes serão completamente destruídos, todos os que negociam com prata serão arruinados.

12 A nd it hath come to pass, at that time, I search Jerusalem with lights, And I have laid a charge on the men Who are hardened on their preserved things, Who are saying in their heart: Jehovah doth no good, nor doth He evil.

Nessa época vasculharei Jerusalém com lamparinas e castigarei os complacentes, que são como vinho envelhecido, deixado com os seus resíduos, que pensam: ‘O Senhor nada fará, nem bem nem mal’.

13 A nd their wealth hath been for a spoil, And their houses for desolation, And they have built houses, and do not inhabit, And they have planted vineyards, And they do not drink their wine.

A riqueza deles será saqueada, suas casas serão demolidas. Embora construam novas casas, nelas não morarão; plantarão vinhas, mas o vinho não beberão. O Grande Dia do Senhor

14 N ear the great day of Jehovah, Near, and hasting exceedingly, The noise of the day of Jehovah, Bitterly shriek there doth a mighty one.

“O grande dia do Senhor está próximo; está próximo e logo vem. Ouçam! O dia do Senhor será amargo; até os guerreiros gritarão.

15 A day of wrath that day, A day of adversity and distress, A day of waste and desolation, A day of darkness and gloominess, A day of cloud and thick darkness.

Aquele dia será um dia de ira, dia de aflição e angústia, dia de sofrimento e ruína, dia de trevas e escuridão, dia de nuvens e negridão,

16 A day of trumpet and shouting against the fenced cities, And against the high corners.

dia de toques de trombeta e gritos de guerra contra as cidades fortificadas e contra as torres elevadas.

17 A nd I have sent distress to men, And they have walked as the blind, For against Jehovah they have sinned, And poured out is their blood as dust, And their flesh as dung.

Trarei aflição aos homens; andarão como se fossem cegos, porque pecaram contra o Senhor. O sangue deles será derramado como poeira, e suas entranhas como lixo.

18 E ven their silver, even their gold, Is not able to deliver them in a day of the wrath of Jehovah, And in the fire of His jealousy consumed is the whole land, For only a hastened end doth He make Of all the inhabitants of the land!

Nem a sua prata nem o seu ouro poderão livrá-los no dia da ira do Senhor. No fogo do seu zelo o mundo inteiro será consumido, pois ele dará fim repentino a todos os que vivem na terra.”
