1 A nd it cometh to pass when Jabin king of Hazor heareth, that he sendeth unto Jobab king of Madon, and unto the king of Shimron, and unto the king of Achshaph,

Quando Jabim, rei de Hazor, soube disso, enviou mensagem a Jobabe, rei de Madom, aos reis de Sinrom e Acsafe,

2 a nd unto the kings who on the north in the hill-country, and in the plain south of Chinneroth, and in the low country, and in the elevations of Dor, on the west,

e aos reis do norte que viviam nas montanhas, na Arabá ao sul de Quinerete, na Sefelá e em Nafote-Dora, a oeste;

3 t he Canaanite on the east, and on the west, and the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the hill-country, and the Hivite under Hermon, in the land of Mizpeh --

aos cananeus a leste e a oeste; aos amorreus, aos hititas, aos ferezeus e aos jebuseus das montanhas; e aos heveus do sopé do Hermom, na região de Mispá.

4 a nd they go out, they and all their camps with them, a people numerous, as the sand which on the sea-shore for multitude, and horse and charioteer very many;

Saíram com todas as suas tropas, um exército imenso, tão numeroso como a areia da praia, além de um grande número de cavalos e carros.

5 a nd all these kings are met together, and they come and encamp together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel.

Todos esses reis se uniram e acamparam junto às águas de Merom, para lutar contra Israel.

6 A nd Jehovah saith unto Joshua, `Be not afraid of their presence, for to-morrow about this time I am giving all of them wounded before Israel; their horses thou dost hough, and their chariots burn with fire.'

E o Senhor disse a Josué: “Não tenha medo deles, porque amanhã a esta hora os entregarei todos mortos a Israel. A você cabe cortar os tendões dos cavalos deles e queimar os seus carros”.

7 A nd Joshua cometh, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly, and they fall on them;

Josué e todo o seu exército os surpreenderam junto às águas de Merom e os atacaram,

8 a nd Jehovah giveth them into the hand of Israel, and they smite them and pursue them unto the great Zidon, and unto Misrephoth-Maim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward, and they smite them, till he hath not left to them a remnant;

e o Senhor os entregou nas mãos de Israel, que os derrotou e os perseguiu até Sidom, a grande, até Misrefote-Maim e até o vale de Mispá, a leste. Eles os mataram sem deixar sobrevivente algum.

9 a nd Joshua doth to them as Jehovah said to him; their horses he hath houghed, and their chariots burnt with fire.

Josué os tratou como o Senhor lhe tinha ordenado. Cortou os tendões dos seus cavalos e queimou os seus carros.

10 A nd Joshua turneth back at that time, and captureth Hazor, and its king he hath smitten by the sword; for Hazor formerly head of all these kingdoms;

Na mesma ocasião Josué voltou, conquistou Hazor e matou o seu rei à espada. (Hazor tinha sido a capital de todos esses reinos.)

11 a nd they smite every person who in it by the mouth of the sword; he hath devoted -- he hath not left any one breathing, and Hazor he hath burnt with fire;

Matou à espada todos os que nela estavam. Exterminou-os totalmente, sem poupar nada que respirasse, e incendiou Hazor.

12 a nd all the cities of these kings, and all their kings, hath Joshua captured, and he smiteth them by the mouth of the sword; he devoted them, as Moses, servant of Jehovah, commanded.

Josué conquistou todas essas cidades e matou à espada os reis que as governavam. Destruiu-as totalmente, como Moisés, servo do Senhor, tinha ordenado.

13 O nly, all the cities which are standing by their hill, Israel hath not burned them, save Hazor only, hath Joshua burnt;

Contudo, Israel não incendiou nenhuma das cidades construídas nas colinas, com exceção de Hazor, que Josué incendiou.

14 a nd all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, have the sons of Israel spoiled for themselves; only, every human being they have smitten by the mouth of the sword, till their destroying them; they have not left any one breathing.

Os israelitas tomaram posse de todos os despojos e dos animais dessas cidades, mas mataram todo o povo à espada, até exterminá-lo completamente, sem poupar ninguém.

15 A s Jehovah commanded Moses His servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so hath Joshua done; he hath not turned aside a thing of all that Jehovah commanded Moses.

Tudo o que o Senhor tinha ordenado a seu servo Moisés, Moisés ordenou a Josué, e Josué obedeceu, sem deixar de cumprir nada de tudo o que o Senhor tinha ordenado a Moisés.

16 A nd Joshua taketh all this land: the hill-country, and all the south, and all the land of Goshen, and the low country, and the plain, even the hill-country of Israel and its low lands,

Assim Josué conquistou toda aquela terra: a serra central, todo o Neguebe, toda a região de Gósen, a Sefelá, a Arabá e os montes de Israel e suas planícies,

17 f rom the mount of Halak, which is going up Seir, and unto Baal-Gad, in the valley of Lebanon, under mount Hermon; and all their kings he hath captured, and he smiteth them, and putteth them to death.

desde o monte Halaque, que se ergue na direção de Seir, até Baal-Gade, no vale do Líbano, no sopé do monte Hermom. Ele capturou todos os seus reis e os matou.

18 M any days hath Joshua made with all these kings war;

Josué guerreou contra todos esses reis por muito tempo.

19 t here hath not been a city which made peace with the sons of Israel save the Hivite, inhabitants of Gibeon; the whole they have taken in battle;

Com exceção dos heveus que viviam em Gibeom, nenhuma cidade fez a paz com os israelitas, que a todas conquistou em combate.

20 f or from Jehovah it hath been to strengthen their heart, to meet in battle with Israel, in order to devote them, so that they have no grace, but in order to destroy them, as Jehovah commanded Moses.

Pois foi o próprio Senhor que lhes endureceu o coração para guerrearem contra Israel, para que ele os destruísse totalmente, exterminando-os sem misericórdia, como o Senhor tinha ordenado a Moisés.

21 A nd Joshua cometh at that time, and cutteth off the Anakim from the hill-country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, even from all the hill-country of Judah, and from all the hill-country of Israel; with their cities hath Joshua devoted them.

Naquela ocasião Josué exterminou os enaquins dos montes de Hebrom, de Debir e de Anabe, de todos os montes de Judá, e de Israel. Josué destruiu-os totalmente, e também as suas cidades.

22 T here hath not been left Anakim in the land of the sons of Israel; only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, were they left.

Nenhum enaquim foi deixado vivo no território israelita; somente em Gaza, em Gate e em Asdode é que alguns sobreviveram.

23 A nd Joshua taketh the whole of the land, according to all that Jehovah hath spoken unto Moses, and Joshua giveth it for an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions, by their tribes; and the land hath rest from war.

Foi assim que Josué conquistou toda a terra, conforme o Senhor tinha dito a Moisés, e deu-a por herança a Israel, repartindo-a entre as suas tribos. E a terra teve descanso da guerra.
