1 A nd Jonah prayeth unto Jehovah his God from the bowels of the fish.

Dentro do peixe, Jonas orou ao Senhor, o seu Deus.

2 A nd he saith: I called, because of my distress, to Jehovah, And He doth answer me, From the belly of sheol I have cried, Thou hast heard my voice.

E disse: “Em meu desespero clamei ao Senhor, e ele me respondeu. Do ventre da morte gritei por socorro, e ouviste o meu clamor.

3 W hen Thou dost cast me the deep, Into the heart of the seas, Then the flood doth compass me, All Thy breakers and Thy billows have passed over me.

Jogaste-me nas profundezas, no coração dos mares; correntezas formavam um turbilhão ao meu redor; todas as tuas ondas e vagas passaram sobre mim.

4 A nd I -- I said: I have been cast out from before Thine eyes, (Yet I add to look unto Thy holy temple!)

Eu disse: Fui expulso da tua presença; contudo, olharei de novo para o teu santo templo.

5 C ompassed me have waters unto the soul, The deep doth compass me, The weed is bound to my head.

As águas agitadas me envolveram, o abismo me cercou, as algas marinhas se enrolaram em minha cabeça.

6 T o the cuttings of mountains I have come down, The earth, her bars behind me to the age. And Thou bringest up from the pit my life, O Jehovah my God.

Afundei até chegar aos fundamentos dos montes; à terra embaixo, cujas trancas me aprisionaram para sempre. Mas tu trouxeste a minha vida de volta da sepultura, ó Senhor meu Deus!

7 I n the feebleness within me of my soul Jehovah I have remembered, And come in unto Thee doth my prayer, Unto Thy holy temple.

“Quando a minha vida já se apagava, eu me lembrei de ti, Senhor, e a minha oração subiu a ti, ao teu santo templo.

8 T hose observing lying vanities their own mercy forsake.

“Aqueles que acreditam em ídolos inúteis desprezam a misericórdia.

9 A nd I -- with a voice of thanksgiving -- I sacrifice to Thee, That which I have vowed I complete, Salvation of Jehovah.

Mas eu, com um cântico de gratidão, oferecerei sacrifício a ti. O que eu prometi cumprirei totalmente. A salvação vem do Senhor ”.

10 A nd Jehovah saith to the fish, and it vomiteth out Jonah on the dry land.

E o Senhor deu ordens ao peixe, e ele vomitou Jonas em terra firme.
