1 A nd Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, `Go, ascend from this, thou and the people, whom thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land which I have sworn to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, To thy seed I give it,'

Depois ordenou o Senhor a Moisés: “Saia deste lugar, com o povo que você tirou do Egito, e vá para a terra que prometi com juramento a Abraão, a Isaque e a Jacó, dizendo: Eu a darei a seus descendentes.

2 ( and I have sent before thee a messenger, and have cast out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite,)

Mandarei à sua frente um anjo e expulsarei os cananeus, os amorreus, os hititas, os ferezeus, os heveus e os jebuseus.

3 u nto a land flowing with milk and honey, for I do not go up in thy midst, for thou a stiff-necked people -- lest I consume thee in the way.'

Vão para a terra onde manam leite e mel. Mas eu não irei com vocês, pois vocês são um povo obstinado, e eu poderia destruí-los no caminho”.

4 A nd the people hear this sad thing, and mourn; and none put his ornaments on him.

Quando o povo ouviu essas palavras terríveis, começou a chorar, e ninguém usou enfeite algum.

5 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Say unto the sons of Israel, Ye a stiff-necked people; one moment -- I come up into thy midst, and have consumed thee; and now, put down thine ornaments from off thee, and I know what I do to thee;'

Isso porque o Senhor ordenara que Moisés dissesse aos israelitas: “Vocês são um povo obstinado. Se eu fosse com vocês, ainda que por um só momento, eu os destruiria. Agora tirem os seus enfeites, e eu decidirei o que fazer com vocês”.

6 a nd the sons of Israel take off their ornaments at mount Horeb.

Por isso, do monte Horebe em diante, os israelitas não usaram mais nenhum enfeite. A Tenda do Encontro

7 A nd Moses taketh the tent, and hath stretched it out at the outside of the camp, afar off from the camp, and hath called it, `Tent of Meeting;' and it hath come to pass, every one seeking Jehovah goeth out unto the tent of meeting, which at the outside of the camp.

Moisés costumava montar uma tenda do lado de fora do acampamento; ele a chamava Tenda do Encontro. Quem quisesse consultar o Senhor ia à tenda, fora do acampamento.

8 A nd it hath come to pass, at the going out of Moses unto the tent, all the people rise, and have stood, each at the opening of his tent, and have looked expectingly after Moses, until his going into the tent.

Sempre que Moisés ia até lá, todo o povo se levantava e ficava em pé à entrada de suas tendas, observando-o, até que ele entrasse na tenda.

9 A nd it hath come to pass, at the going in of Moses to the tent, the pillar of the cloud cometh down, and hath stood at the opening of the tent, and He hath spoken with Moses;

Assim que Moisés entrava, a coluna de nuvem descia e ficava à entrada da tenda, enquanto o Senhor falava com Moisés.

10 a nd all the people have seen the pillar of the cloud standing at the opening of the tent, and all the people have risen and bowed themselves, each at the opening of his tent.

Quando o povo via a coluna de nuvem parada à entrada da tenda, todos prestavam adoração em pé, cada qual na entrada de sua própria tenda.

11 A nd Jehovah hath spoken unto Moses face unto face, as a man speaketh unto his friend; and he hath turned back unto the camp, and his minister Joshua, son of Nun, a youth, departeth not out of the tent.

O Senhor falava com Moisés face a face, como quem fala com seu amigo. Depois Moisés voltava ao acampamento; mas Josué, filho de Num, que lhe servia como auxiliar, não se afastava da tenda. Moisés diante da Glória de Deus

12 A nd Moses saith unto Jehovah, `See, Thou art saying unto me, Bring up this people, and Thou hast not caused me to know whom Thou dost send with me; and Thou hast said, I have known thee by name, and also thou hast found grace in Mine eyes.

Disse Moisés ao Senhor: “Tu me ordenaste: ‘Conduza este povo’, mas não me permites saber quem enviarás comigo. Disseste: ‘Eu o conheço pelo nome e de você tenho me agradado’.

13 ` And now, if, I pray Thee, I have found grace in Thine eyes, cause me to know, I pray Thee, Thy way, and I know Thee, so that I find grace in Thine eyes, and consider that this nation Thy people;'

Se me vês com agrado, revela-me os teus propósitos, para que eu te conheça e continue sendo aceito por ti. Lembra-te de que esta nação é o teu povo”.

14 a nd He saith, `My presence doth go, and I have given rest to thee.'

Respondeu o Senhor: “Eu mesmo o acompanharei, e lhe darei descanso”.

15 A nd he saith unto Him, `If Thy presence is not going -- take us not up from this;

Então Moisés lhe declarou: “Se não fores conosco, não nos envies.

16 a nd in what is it known now, that I have found grace in Thine eyes -- I and Thy people -- is it not in Thy going with us? and we have been distinguished -- I and Thy people -- from all the people who on the face of the ground.'

Como se saberá que eu e o teu povo podemos contar com o teu favor, se não nos acompanhares? Que mais poderá distinguir a mim e a teu povo de todos os demais povos da face da terra?”

17 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Even this thing which thou hast spoken I do; for thou hast found grace in Mine eyes, and I know thee by name.'

O Senhor disse a Moisés: “Farei o que me pede, porque tenho me agradado de você e o conheço pelo nome”.

18 A nd he saith, `Shew me, I pray Thee, Thine honour;'

Então disse Moisés: “Peço-te que me mostres a tua glória”.

19 a nd He saith, `I cause all My goodness to pass before thy face, and have called concerning the Name of Jehovah before thee, and favoured him whom I favour, and loved him whom I love.'

E Deus respondeu: “Diante de você farei passar toda a minha bondade, e diante de você proclamarei o meu nome: o Senhor. Terei misericórdia de quem eu quiser ter misericórdia, e terei compaixão de quem eu quiser ter compaixão”.

20 H e saith also, `Thou art unable to see My face, for man doth not see Me, and live;'

E acrescentou: “Você não poderá ver a minha face, porque ninguém poderá ver-me e continuar vivo”.

21 J ehovah also saith, `Lo, a place by Me, and thou hast stood on the rock,

E prosseguiu o Senhor: “Há aqui um lugar perto de mim, onde você ficará, em cima de uma rocha.

22 a nd it hath come to pass, in the passing by of Mine honour, that I have set thee in a cleft of the rock, and spread out My hands over thee, until My passing by,

Quando a minha glória passar, eu o colocarei numa fenda da rocha e o cobrirei com a minha mão até que eu tenha acabado de passar.

23 a nd I have turned aside My hands, and thou hast seen My back parts, and My face is not seen.'

Então tirarei a minha mão e você verá as minhas costas; mas a minha face ninguém poderá ver”.
