1 W o the proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim. And the fading flower of the beauty of his glory, That on the head of the fat valley of the broken down of wine.

Ai daquela coroa situada nos altos de um vale fértil, orgulho dos bêbados de Efraim! Ai de sua magnífica beleza, que agora é como uma flor murcha. Ai dos que são dominados pelo vinho!

2 L o, a mighty and strong one to the Lord, As a storm of hail -- a destructive shower, As an inundation of mighty waters overflowing, He cast down to the earth with the hand.

Vejam! O Senhor envia alguém que é poderoso e forte. Como chuva de granizo e vento destruidor, como violento aguaceiro e tromba d’água inundante, ele a lançará com força ao chão.

3 B y feet trodden down is the proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim,

A coroa orgulhosa dos bêbados de Efraim será pisoteada.

4 A nd the fading flower of the beauty of his glory That on the head of the fat valley, Hath been as its first-fruit before summer, That its beholder seeth, While it yet in his hand he swalloweth it.

Sua magnífica beleza, localizada na cabeça de um vale fértil, é agora uma flor que murcha. Ela será como figo maduro antes da colheita; quem o vê, logo o apanha e o come.

5 I n that day is Jehovah of Hosts For a crown of beauty, and for a diadem of glory, To the remnant of His people.

Naquele dia o Senhor dos Exércitos será uma coroa gloriosa, um belo diadema para o remanescente do seu povo.

6 A nd for a spirit of judgment To him who is sitting in the judgment, And for might those turning back the battle to the gate.

Ele será um espírito de justiça para aquele que se assenta para julgar, e força para os que fazem recuar o ataque na porta.

7 A nd even these through wine have erred, And through strong drink have wandered, Priest and prophet erred through strong drink, They have been swallowed up of the wine, They wandered because of the strong drink, They have erred in seeing, They have stumbled judicially.

E estes também cambaleiam pelo efeito do vinho, e não param em pé por causa da bebida fermentada. Os sacerdotes e os profetas cambaleiam por causa da bebida fermentada e estão desorientados devido ao vinho; eles não conseguem parar em pé por causa da bebida fermentada, confundem-se quando têm visões, tropeçam quando devem dar um veredicto.

8 F or all tables have been full of vomit, Filth -- without place!

Todas as mesas estão cobertas de vômito e não há um só lugar limpo.

9 B y whom doth He teach knowledge? And by whom doth He cause to understand the report? The weaned from milk, the removed from breasts,

“Quem é que está tentando ensinar?”, eles perguntam. “A quem está explicando a sua mensagem? A crianças desmamadas e a bebês recém-tirados do seio materno?

10 F or rule on rule, rule on rule, line on line, line on line, A little here, a little there,

Pois o que se diz é: ´Ordem sobre ordem, ordem sobre ordem, regra e mais regra; um pouco aqui, um pouco ali.”

11 F or by scorned lip, and by another tongue, Doth He speak unto this people.

Pois bem, com lábios trôpegos e língua estranha Deus falará a este povo,

12 U nto whom He hath said, `This the rest, give ye rest to the weary, And this -- the refreshing:' And they have not been willing to hear,

ao qual dissera: “Este é o lugar de descanso. Deixem descansar o exausto. Este é o lugar de repouso!” Mas eles não quiseram ouvir.

13 A nd to whom a word of Jehovah hath been, Rule on rule, rule on rule, line on line, line on line, A little here, a little there, So that they go and have stumbled backward, And been broken, and snared, and captured.

Por isso o Senhor lhes dirá: “Ordem sobre ordem, ordem sobre ordem, regra e mais regra, regra e mais regra; um pouco aqui, um pouco ali”, para que saiam, caiam de costas, firam-se, fiquem presos no laço e sejam capturados.

14 T herefore, hear a word of Jehovah, ye men of scorning, Ruling this people that in Jerusalem.

Portanto, ouçam a palavra do Senhor, zombadores, vocês, que dominam este povo em Jerusalém.

15 B ecause ye have said: `We have made a covenant with death, And with Sheol we have made a provision, An overflowing scourge, when it passeth over, Doth not meet us, Though we have made a lie our refuge, And in falsehood have been hidden.'

Vocês se vangloriam, dizendo: “Fizemos um pacto com a morte, com a sepultura fizemos um acordo. Quando vier a calamidade destruidora, não nos atingirá, pois da mentira fizemos o nosso refúgio e na falsidade temos o nosso esconderijo”.

16 T herefore, thus said the Lord Jehovah: `Lo, I am laying a foundation in Zion, A stone -- a tried stone, a corner stone precious, a settled foundation, He who is believing doth not make haste.

Por isso diz o Soberano, o Senhor: “Eis que ponho em Sião uma pedra, uma pedra já experimentada, uma preciosa pedra angular para alicerce seguro; aquele que confia, jamais será abalado.

17 A nd I have put judgment for a line, And righteousness for a plummet, And sweep away doth hail the refuge of lies, And the secret hiding-place do waters overflow.

Farei do juízo a linha de medir e da justiça o fio de prumo; o granizo varrerá o seu falso refúgio, e as águas inundarão o seu abrigo.

18 A nd disannulled hath been your covenant with death, And your provision with Sheol doth not stand, An overflowing scourge, when it passeth over, Then ye have been to it for a treading-place.

Seu pacto com a morte será anulado; seu acordo com a sepultura não subsistirá. Quando vier a calamidade destruidora, vocês serão arrastados por ela.

19 F rom the fulness of its passing over it taketh you, For morning by morning it passeth over, By day and by night, And it hath been only a trembling to consider the report.

Todas as vezes que vier, os arrastará; passará manhã após manhã, de dia e de noite”. A compreensão desta mensagem trará pavor total.

20 F or shorter hath been the bed Than to stretch one's self out in, And the covering hath been narrower Than to wrap one's self up in.

A cama é curta demais para alguém deitar-se, e o cobertor é estreito demais para ele cobrir-se.

21 F or as mount Perazim rise doth Jehovah, As the valley in Gibeon He is troubled, To do His work -- strange His work, And to do His deed -- strange His deed.'

O Senhor se levantará como fez no monte Perazim, mostrará sua ira como no vale de Gibeom, para realizar sua obra, obra muito estranha, e cumprir sua tarefa, tarefa misteriosa.

22 A nd now, show not yourselves scorners, Lest strong be your bands, For a consumption, that is determined, I have heard, by the Lord, Jehovah of Hosts, for all the land.

Agora, parem com a zombaria; se não, as suas correntes ficarão mais pesadas; o Senhor, o Senhor dos Exércitos, falou-me da destruição decretada contra o território inteiro.

23 G ive ear, and hear my voice, Attend, and hear my saying:

Ouçam, escutem a minha voz; prestem atenção, ouçam o que eu digo.

24 T he whole day plougheth the ploughman to sow? He openeth and harroweth his ground!

Quando o agricultor ara a terra para o plantio, só faz isso o tempo todo? Só fica abrindo sulcos e gradeando o solo?

25 H ath he not, if he have made level its face, Then scattered fitches, and cummin sprinkle, And hath placed the principal wheat, And the appointed barley, And the rie its own border?

Depois de nivelado o solo, ele não semeia o endro e não espalha as sementes do cominho? Não planta o trigo no lugar certo, a cevada no terreno próprio e o trigo duro nas bordas?

26 A nd instruct him for judgment doth his God, He doth direct him.

O seu Deus o instrui e lhe ensina o caminho.

27 F or not with a sharp-pointed thing threshed are fitches, And the wheel of a cart on cummin turned round, For with a staff beaten out are fitches, And cummin with a rod.

Não se debulha o endro com trilhadeira, e sobre o cominho não se faz passar roda de carro; tira-se o endro com vara, e o cominho com um pedaço de pau.

28 B read- is beaten small, For not for ever doth he sorely thresh it, Nor crushed hath a wheel of his cart, Nor do his hoofs beat it small.

É preciso moer o cereal para fazer pão; por isso ninguém o fica trilhando para sempre. Fazem passar as rodas da trilhadeira sobre o trigo, mas os seus cavalos não o trituram.

29 E ven this from Jehovah of Hosts hath gone out, He hath made counsel wonderful, He hath made wisdom great!

Isso tudo vem da parte do Senhor dos Exércitos, maravilhoso em conselhos e magnífico em sabedoria.
