1 A nd Abraham journeyeth from thence toward the land of the south, and dwelleth between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourneth in Gerar;

Abraão partiu dali para a região do Neguebe e foi viver entre Cades e Sur. Depois morou algum tempo em Gerar.

2 a nd Abraham saith concerning Sarah his wife, `She is my sister;' and Abimelech king of Gerar sendeth and taketh Sarah.

Ele dizia que Sara, sua mulher, era sua irmã. Então Abimeleque, rei de Gerar, mandou buscar Sara e tomou-a para si.

3 A nd God cometh in unto Abimelech in a dream of the night, and saith to him, `Lo, thou a dead man, because of the woman whom thou hast taken -- and she married to a husband.'

Certa noite Deus veio a Abimeleque num sonho e lhe disse: “Você morrerá! A mulher que você tomou é casada”.

4 A nd Abimelech hath not drawn near unto her, and he saith, `Lord, also a righteous nation dost thou slay?

Mas Abimeleque, que ainda não havia tocado nela, disse: “Senhor, destruirias um povo inocente?

5 h ath not he himself said to me, She my sister! and she, even she herself, said, He my brother; in the integrity of my heart, and in the innocency of my hands, I have done this.'

Não foi ele que me disse: ‘Ela é minha irmã’? E ela também não disse: ‘Ele é meu irmão’? O que fiz foi de coração puro e de mãos limpas”.

6 A nd God saith unto him in the dream, `Yea, I -- I have known that in the integrity of thy heart thou hast done this, and I withhold thee, even I, from sinning against Me, therefore I have not suffered thee to come against her;

Então Deus lhe respondeu no sonho: “Sim, eu sei que você fez isso de coração puro. Eu mesmo impedi que você pecasse contra mim e por isso não lhe permiti tocá-la.

7 a nd now send back the man's wife, for he inspired, and he doth pray for thee, and live thou; and if thou do not send back, know that dying thou dost die, thou, and all that thou hast.'

Agora devolva a mulher ao marido dela. Ele é profeta, e orará em seu favor, para que você não morra. Mas se não a devolver, esteja certo de que você e todos os seus morrerão”.

8 A nd Abimelech riseth early in the morning, and calleth for all his servants, and speaketh all these words in their ears; and the men fear exceedingly;

Na manhã seguinte, Abimeleque convocou todos os seus conselheiros e, quando lhes contou tudo o que acontecera, tiveram muito medo.

9 a nd Abimelech calleth for Abraham, and saith to him, `What hast thou done to us? and what have I sinned against thee, that thou hast brought upon me, and upon my kingdom, a great sin? works which are not done thou hast done with me.'

Depois Abimeleque chamou Abraão e disse: “O que fizeste conosco? Em que foi que pequei contra ti para que trouxesses tamanha culpa sobre mim e sobre o meu reino? O que me fizeste não se faz a ninguém!”

10 A bimelech also saith unto Abraham, `What hast thou seen that thou hast done this thing?'

E perguntou Abimeleque a Abraão: “O que te levou a fazer isso?”

11 A nd Abraham saith, `Because I said, `Surely the fear of God is not in this place, and they have slain me for the sake of my wife;

Abraão respondeu: “Eu disse a mim mesmo: Certamente ninguém teme a Deus neste lugar, e irão matar-me por causa da minha mulher.

12 a nd also, truly she is my sister, daughter of my father, only not daughter of my mother, and she becometh my wife;

Além disso, na verdade ela é minha irmã por parte de pai, mas não por parte de mãe; e veio a ser minha mulher.

13 a nd it cometh to pass, when God hath caused me to wander from my father's house, that I say to her, This thy kindness which thou dost with me: at every place whither we come, say of me, He my brother.'

E quando Deus me fez sair errante da casa de meu pai, eu disse a ela: Assim você me provará sua lealdade: em qualquer lugar aonde formos, diga que sou seu irmão”.

14 A nd Abimelech taketh sheep and oxen, and servants and handmaids, and giveth to Abraham, and sendeth back to him Sarah his wife;

Então Abimeleque trouxe ovelhas e bois, servos e servas, deu-os a Abraão e devolveu-lhe Sara, sua mulher.

15 a nd Abimelech saith, `Lo, my land before thee, where it is good in thine eyes, dwell;'

E disse Abimeleque: “Minha terra está diante de ti; podes ficar onde quiseres”.

16 a nd to Sarah he hath said, `Lo, I have given a thousand silverlings to thy brother; lo, it is to thee a covering of eyes, to all who are with thee;' and by all this she is reasoned with.

A Sara ele disse: “Estou dando a seu irmão mil peças de prata, para reparar a ofensa feita a você diante de todos os seus; assim todos saberão que você é inocente”.

17 A nd Abraham prayeth unto God, and God healeth Abimelech and his wife, and his handmaids, and they bear:

A seguir Abraão orou a Deus, e Deus curou Abimeleque, sua mulher e suas servas, de forma que puderam novamente ter filhos,

18 f or Jehovah restraining had restrained every womb of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham's wife.

porque o Senhor havia tornado estéreis todas as mulheres da casa de Abimeleque por causa de Sara, mulher de Abraão.
