1 E very wise woman hath builded her house, And the foolish with her hands breaketh it down.

A mulher sábia edifica a sua casa, mas com as próprias mãos a insensata derruba a sua.

2 W hoso is walking in his uprightness is fearing Jehovah, And the perverted his ways is despising Him.

Quem anda direito teme o Senhor, mas quem segue caminhos enganosos o despreza.

3 I n the mouth of a fool a rod of pride, And the lips of the wise preserve them.

A conversa do insensato traz a vara para as suas costas, mas os lábios dos sábios os protegem.

4 W ithout oxen a stall clean, And great the increase by the power of the ox.

Onde não há bois o celeiro fica vazio, mas da força do boi vem a grande colheita.

5 A faithful witness lieth not, And a false witness breatheth out lies.

A testemunha sincera não engana, mas a falsa transborda em mentiras.

6 A scorner hath sought wisdom, and it is not, And knowledge to the intelligent easy.

O zombador busca sabedoria e nada encontra, mas o conhecimento vem facilmente ao que tem discernimento.

7 G o from before a foolish man, Or thou hast not known the lips of knowledge.

Mantenha-se longe do tolo, pois você não achará conhecimento no que ele falar.

8 T he wisdom of the prudent to understand his way, And the folly of fools deceit.

A sabedoria do homem prudente é discernir o seu caminho, mas a insensatez dos tolos é enganosa.

9 F ools mock at a guilt-offering, And among the upright -- a pleasing thing.

Os insensatos zombam da idéia de reparar o pecado cometido, mas a boa vontade está entre os justos.

10 T he heart knoweth its own bitterness, And with its joy a stranger doth not intermeddle.

Cada coração conhece a sua própria amargura, e não há quem possa partilhar sua alegria.

11 T he house of the wicked is destroyed, And the tent of the upright flourisheth.

A casa dos ímpios será destruída, mas a tenda dos justos florescerá.

12 T here is a way -- right before a man, And its latter end ways of death.

Há caminho que parece certo ao homem, mas no final conduz à morte.

13 E ven in laughter is the heart pained, And the latter end of joy affliction.

Mesmo no riso o coração pode sofrer, e a alegria pode terminar em tristeza.

14 F rom his ways is the backslider in heart filled, And a good man -- from his fruits.

Os infiéis receberão a retribuição de sua conduta, mas o homem bom será recompensado.

15 T he simple giveth credence to everything, And the prudent attendeth to his step.

O inexperiente acredita em qualquer coisa, mas o homem prudente vê bem onde pisa.

16 T he wise is fearing and turning from evil, And a fool is transgressing and is confident.

O sábio é cauteloso e evita o mal, mas o tolo é impetuoso e irresponsável.

17 W hoso is short of temper doth folly, And a man of wicked devices is hated.

Quem é irritadiço faz tolices, e o homem cheio de astúcias é odiado.

18 T he simple have inherited folly, And the prudent are crowned knowledge.

Os inexperientes herdam a insensatez, mas o conhecimento é a coroa dos prudentes.

19 T he evil have bowed down before the good, And the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

Os maus se inclinarão diante dos homens de bem, e os ímpios, às portas da justiça.

20 E ven of his neighbour is the poor hated, And those loving the rich many.

Os pobres são evitados até por seus vizinhos, mas os amigos dos ricos são muitos.

21 W hoso is despising his neighbour sinneth, Whoso is favouring the humble, O his happiness.

Quem despreza o próximo comete pecado, mas como é feliz quem trata com bondade os necessitados!

22 D o not they err who are devising evil? And kindness and truth to those devising good,

Não é certo que se perdem os que só pensam no mal? Mas os que planejam o bem encontram amor e fidelidade.

23 I n all labour there is advantage, And a thing of the lips only to want.

Todo trabalho árduo traz proveito, mas o só falar leva à pobreza.

24 T he crown of the wise is their wealth, The folly of fools folly.

A riqueza dos sábios é a sua coroa, mas a insensatez dos tolos produz apenas insensatez.

25 A true witness is delivering souls, And a deceitful one breatheth out lies.

A testemunha que fala a verdade salva vidas, mas a testemunha falsa é enganosa.

26 I n the fear of Jehovah strong confidence, And to His sons there is a refuge.

Aquele que teme o Senhor possui uma fortaleza segura, refúgio para os seus filhos.

27 T he fear of Jehovah a fountain of life, To turn aside from snares of death.

O temor do Senhor é fonte de vida, e afasta das armadilhas da morte.

28 I n the multitude of a people the honour of a king, And in lack of people the ruin of a prince.

Uma grande população é a glória do rei, mas, sem súditos, o príncipe está arruinado.

29 W hoso is slow to anger of great understanding, And whoso is short in temper is exalting folly.

O homem paciente dá prova de grande entendimento, mas o precipitado revela insensatez.

30 A healed heart life to the flesh, And rottenness to the bones envy.

O coração em paz dá vida ao corpo, mas a inveja apodrece os ossos.

31 A n oppressor of the poor reproacheth his Maker, And whoso is honouring Him Is favouring the needy.

Oprimir o pobre é ultrajar o seu Criador, mas tratar com bondade o necessitado é honrar a Deus.

32 I n his wickedness is the wicked driven away, And trustful in his death the righteous.

Quando chega a calamidade, os ímpios são derrubados; os justos, porém, até em face da morte encontram refúgio.

33 I n the heart of the intelligent wisdom doth rest. And in the midst of fools it is known.

A sabedoria repousa no coração dos que têm discernimento, e mesmo entre os tolos ela se deixa conhecer.

34 R ighteousness exalteth a nation, And the goodliness of peoples a sin-offering.

A justiça engrandece a nação, mas o pecado é uma vergonha para qualquer povo.

35 T he favour of a king to a wise servant, And an object of his wrath is one causing shame!

O servo sábio agrada o rei, mas o que procede vergonhosamente incorre em sua ira.
