1 P roverbs of Solomon. A wise son causeth a father to rejoice, And a foolish son an affliction to his mother.

2 T reasures of wickedness profit not, And righteousness delivereth from death.

Os tesouros de origem desonesta não servem para nada, mas a retidão livra da morte.

3 J ehovah causeth not the soul of the righteous to hunger, And the desire of the wicked He thrusteth away.

O Senhor não deixa o justo passar fome, mas frustra a ambição dos ímpios.

4 P oor he who is working -- a slothful hand, And the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

As mãos preguiçosas empobrecem o homem, porém as mãos diligentes lhe trazem riqueza.

5 W hoso is gathering in summer a wise son, Whoso is sleeping in harvest a son causing shame.

Aquele que faz a colheita no verão é filho sensato, mas aquele que dorme durante a ceifa é filho que causa vergonha.

6 B lessings for the head of the righteous, And the mouth of the wicked cover doth violence.

As bênçãos coroam a cabeça dos justos, mas a boca dos ímpios abriga a violência.

7 T he remembrance of the righteous for a blessing, And the name of the wicked doth rot.

A memória deixada pelos justos será uma bênção, mas o nome dos ímpios apodrecerá.

8 T he wise in heart accepteth commands, And a talkative fool kicketh.

Os sábios de coração aceitam mandamentos, mas a boca do insensato o leva à ruína.

9 W hoso is walking in integrity walketh confidently, And whoso is perverting his ways is known.

Quem anda com integridade anda com segurança, mas quem segue veredas tortuosas será descoberto.

10 W hoso is winking the eye giveth grief, And a talkative fool kicketh.

Aquele que pisca maliciosamente causa tristeza, e a boca do insensato o leva à ruína.

11 A fountain of life the mouth of the righteous, And the mouth of the wicked cover doth violence.

A boca do justo é fonte de vida, mas a boca dos ímpios abriga a violência.

12 H atred awaketh contentions, And over all transgressions love covereth.

O ódio provoca dissensão, mas o amor cobre todos os pecados.

13 I n the lips of the intelligent is wisdom found, And a rod for the back of him who is lacking understanding.

A sabedoria está nos lábios dos que têm discernimento, mas a vara é para as costas daquele que não tem juízo.

14 T he wise lay up knowledge, and the mouth of a fool near ruin.

Os sábios acumulam conhecimento, mas a boca do insensato é um convite à ruína.

15 T he wealth of the rich his strong city, The ruin of the poor their poverty.

A riqueza dos ricos é a sua cidade fortificada, mas a pobreza é a ruína dos pobres.

16 T he wage of the righteous for life, The increase of the wicked for sin.

O salário do justo lhe traz vida, mas a renda do ímpio lhe traz castigo.

17 A traveller to life he who is keeping instruction, And whoso is forsaking rebuke is erring.

Quem acolhe a disciplina mostra o caminho da vida, mas quem ignora a repreensão desencaminha outros.

18 W hoso is covering hatred with lying lips, And whoso is bringing out an evil report is a fool.

Quem esconde o ódio tem lábios mentirosos, e quem espalha calúnia é tolo.

19 I n the abundance of words transgression ceaseth not, And whoso is restraining his lips wise.

Quando são muitas as palavras, o pecado está presente, mas quem controla a língua é sensato.

20 T he tongue of the righteous chosen silver, The heart of the wicked -- as a little thing.

A língua dos justos é prata escolhida, mas o coração dos ímpios quase não tem valor.

21 T he lips of the righteous delight many, And fools for lack of heart die.

As palavras dos justos dão sustento a muitos, mas os insensatos morrem por falta de juízo.

22 T he blessing of Jehovah -- it maketh rich, And He addeth no grief with it.

A bênção do Senhor traz riqueza, e não inclui dor alguma.

23 T o execute inventions as play to a fool, And wisdom to a man of understanding.

O tolo encontra prazer na má conduta, mas o homem cheio de entendimento deleita-se na sabedoria.

24 T he feared thing of the wicked it meeteth him, And the desire of the righteous is given.

O que o ímpio teme lhe acontecerá; o que os justos desejam lhes será concedido.

25 A s the passing by of a hurricane, So the wicked is not, And the righteous is a foundation age-during.

Passada a tempestade, o ímpio já não existe, mas o justo permanece firme para sempre.

26 A s vinegar to the teeth, And as smoke to the eyes, So the slothful to those sending him.

Como o vinagre para os dentes e a fumaça para os olhos, assim é o preguiçoso para aqueles que o enviam.

27 T he fear of Jehovah addeth days, And the years of the wicked are shortened.

O temor do Senhor prolonga a vida, mas a vida do ímpio é abreviada.

28 T he hope of the righteous joyful, And the expectation of the wicked perisheth.

O que o justo almeja redunda em alegria, mas as esperanças dos ímpios dão em nada.

29 T he way of Jehovah strength to the perfect, And ruin to workers of iniquity.

O caminho do Senhor é o refúgio dos íntegros, mas é a ruína dos que praticam o mal.

30 T he righteous to the age is not moved, And the wicked inhabit not the earth.

Os justos jamais serão desarraigados, mas os ímpios pouco duram na terra.

31 T he mouth of the righteous uttereth wisdom, And the tongue of frowardness is cut out.

A boca do justo produz sabedoria, mas a língua perversa será extirpada.

32 T he lips of the righteous know a pleasing thing, And the mouth of the wicked perverseness!

Os lábios do justo sabem o que é próprio, mas a boca dos ímpios só conhece a perversidade.
