1 T o the Overseer, `On the Gittith.' A Psalm of David. Jehovah, our Lord, How honourable Thy name in all the earth! Who settest thine honour on the heavens.

Senhor, Senhor nosso, como é majestoso o teu nome em toda a terra! Tu, cuja glória é cantada nos céus.

2 F rom the mouths of infants and sucklings Thou hast founded strength, Because of Thine adversaries, To still an enemy and a self-avenger.

Dos lábios das crianças e dos recém-nascidos firmaste o teu nome como fortaleza, por causa dos teus adversários, para silenciar o inimigo que busca vingança.

3 F or I see Thy heavens, a work of Thy fingers, Moon and stars that Thou didst establish.

Quando contemplo os teus céus, obra dos teus dedos, a lua e as estrelas que ali firmaste,

4 W hat man that Thou rememberest him? The son of man that Thou inspectest him?

pergunto: Que é o homem, para que com ele te importes? E o filho do homem, para que com ele te preocupes?

5 A nd causest him to lack a little of Godhead, And with honour and majesty compassest him.

Tu o fizeste um pouco menor do que os seres celestiais e o coroaste de glória e de honra.

6 T hou dost cause him to rule Over the works of Thy hands, All Thou hast placed under his feet.

Tu o fizeste dominar sobre as obras das tuas mãos; sob os seus pés tudo puseste:

7 S heep and oxen, all of them, And also beasts of the field,

todos os rebanhos e manadas, e até os animais selvagens,

8 B ird of the heavens, and fish of the sea, Passing through the paths of the seas!

as aves do céu, os peixes do mar e tudo o que percorre as veredas dos mares.

9 J ehovah, our Lord, How honourable Thy name in all the earth!
