1 A nd after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra son of Seraiah, son of Azariah, son of Hilkiah,

Depois dessas coisas, durante o reinado de Artaxerxes, rei da Pérsia, vivia um homem chamado Esdras. Era filho de Seraías, filho de Azarias, filho de Hilquias,

2 s on of Shallum, son of Zadok, son of Ahitub,

filho de Salum, filho de Zadoque, filho de Aitube,

3 s on of Amariah, son of Azariah, son of Meraioth,

filho de Amarias, filho de Azarias, filho de Meraiote,

4 s on of Zerahiah, son of Uzzi, son of Bukki,

filho de Zeraías, filho de Uzi, filho de Buqui,

5 s on of Abishua, son of Phinehas, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the head priest;

filho de Abisua, filho de Finéias, filho de Eleazar, filho do sumo sacerdote Arão.

6 E zra himself hath come up from Babylon, and he a scribe ready in the law of Moses, that Jehovah God of Israel gave, and the king giveth to him -- according to the hand of Jehovah his God upon him -- all his request.

Este Esdras veio da Babilônia. Era um escriba que conhecia muito a Lei de Moisés dada pelo Senhor, o Deus de Israel. O rei lhe concedera tudo o que ele tinha pedido, pois a mão do Senhor, o seu Deus, estava sobre ele.

7 A nd there go up of the sons of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the gatekeepers, and the Nethinim, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king.

Alguns dos israelitas, inclusive sacerdotes, levitas, cantores, porteiros e servidores do templo, também foram para Jerusalém no sétimo ano do reinado de Artaxerxes.

8 A nd he cometh in to Jerusalem in the fifth month, that the seventh year of the king,

Esdras chegou a Jerusalém no quinto mês do sétimo ano desse reinado.

9 f or on the first of the month he hath founded the ascent from Babylon, and on the first of the fifth month he hath come in unto Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him,

No primeiro dia do primeiro mês ele saiu da Babilônia e chegou a Jerusalém no primeiro dia do quinto mês, porque a boa mão de seu Deus estava sobre ele.

10 f or Ezra hath prepared his heart to seek the law of Jehovah, and to do, and to teach in Israel statute and judgment.

Pois Esdras tinha decidido dedicar-se a estudar a Lei do Senhor e a praticá-la, e a ensinar os seus decretos e mandamentos aos israelitas. A Carta do Rei Artaxerxes a Esdras

11 A nd this a copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave to Ezra the priest, the scribe, a scribe of the words of the commands of Jehovah, and of His statutes on Israel:

Esta é uma cópia da carta que o rei Artaxerxes entregou ao sacerdote e escriba Esdras, conhecedor dos mandamentos e decretos do Senhor para Israel:

12 ` Artaxerxes, king of kings, to Ezra the priest, a perfect scribe of the law of the God of heaven, and at such a time:

“Artaxerxes, rei dos reis, “Ao sacerdote Esdras, escriba da Lei do Deus dos céus: “Paz e prosperidade!

13 B y me hath been made a decree that every one who is willing, in my kingdom, of the people of Israel and of its priests and Levites, to go to Jerusalem with thee, doth go;

“Estou decretando que qualquer israelita em meu reino, inclusive dentre os sacerdotes e levitas, que desejar ir a Jerusalém com você, poderá fazê-lo.

14 b ecause that from the king and his seven counsellors thou art sent, to inquire concerning Judah and concerning Jerusalem, with the law of God that in thy hand,

Você está sendo enviado pelo rei e por seus sete conselheiros para fazer uma investigação em Judá e em Jerusalém com respeito à Lei do seu Deus, que está nas suas mãos.

15 a nd to carry silver and gold that the king and his counsellors willingly offered to the God of Israel, whose tabernacle in Jerusalem,

Além disso, você levará a prata e o ouro que o rei e seus conselheiros voluntariamente ofereceram ao Deus de Israel, cuja habitação está em Jerusalém,

16 a nd all the silver and gold that thou findest in all the province of Babylon, with the free-will offerings of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly, for the house of their God that in Jerusalem,

além de toda a prata e todo o ouro que você receber da província da Babilônia, como também as ofertas voluntárias do povo e dos sacerdotes para o templo do Deus deles em Jerusalém.

17 t herefore thou dost speedily buy with this money, bullocks, rams, lambs, and their presents, and their libations, and dost bring them near to the altar of the house of your God that in Jerusalem,

Com esse dinheiro compre novilhos, carneiros, cordeiros e o que for necessário para as suas ofertas de cereal e de bebida, e sacrifique-os no altar do templo do seu Deus em Jerusalém.

18 a nd that which to thee and to thy brethren is good to do with the rest of the silver and gold, according to the will of your God ye do.'

“Você e seus irmãos poderão fazer o que acharem melhor com o restante da prata e do ouro, de acordo com a vontade do seu Deus.

19 ` And the vessels that are given to thee, for the service of the house of thy God, make perfect before the God of Jerusalem;

Entregue ao Deus de Jerusalém todos os utensílios que foram confiados a você para o culto no templo de seu Deus.

20 a nd the rest of the needful things of the house of thy God, that it falleth to thee to give, thou dost give from the treasure-house of the king.

E todas as demais despesas necessárias com relação ao templo de seu Deus serão pagas pelo tesouro real.

21 ` And by me -- I Artaxerxes the king -- is made a decree to all treasurers who beyond the river, that all that Ezra the priest, scribe of the law of the God of heaven, doth ask of you, be done speedily:

“Agora eu, o rei Artaxerxes, ordeno a todos os tesoureiros do território situado a oeste do Eufrates que forneçam tudo o que lhes solicitar o sacerdote Esdras, escriba da Lei do Deus dos céus,

22 U nto silver a hundred talents, and unto wheat a hundred cors, and unto wine a hundred baths, and unto oil a hundred baths, and salt without reckoning;

até três toneladas e meia de prata, cem tonéis de trigo, dez barris de vinho, dez barris de azeite de oliva, e sal à vontade.

23 a ll that by the decree of the God of heaven, let be done diligently for the house of the God of heaven; for why is there wrath against the kingdom of the king and his sons?

Tudo o que o Deus dos céus tenha prescrito, que se faça com presteza para o templo do Deus dos céus, para que a sua ira não venha contra o império do rei e dos seus descendentes.

24 ` And to you we are making known, that upon any of the priests and Levites, singers, gatekeepers, Nethinim, and servants of the house of God, tribute and custom there is no authority to lift up.

Saibam também que vocês não têm autoridade para exigir impostos, tributos ou taxas de nenhum sacerdote, levita, cantor, porteiro, servidor do templo e de nenhum dos que trabalham nesse templo de Deus.

25 ` And thou, Ezra, according to the wisdom of thy God, that in thy hand, appoint magistrates and judges who may be judges to all the people who are beyond the river, to all knowing the law of thy God, and he who hath not known ye cause to know;

“E você, Esdras, com a sabedoria que o seu Deus lhe deu, nomeie magistrados e juízes para ministrarem a justiça a todo o povo do território situado a oeste do Eufrates, a todos os que conhecem as leis do seu Deus. E aos que não as conhecem você deverá ensiná-las.

26 a nd any who doth not do the law of thy God, and the law of the king, speedily is judgment done upon him, whether to death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of riches, and to bonds.'

Aquele que não obedecer à lei do Deus de vocês e à lei do rei seja punido com a morte, ou com o exílio, ou com o confisco de bens, ou com a prisão”.

27 B lessed Jehovah, God of our fathers, who hath given such a thing as this in the heart of the king, to beautify the house of Jehovah that in Jerusalem,

Bendito seja o Senhor, o Deus de nossos antepassados, que pôs no coração do rei o propósito de honrar desta maneira o templo do Senhor em Jerusalém,

28 a nd unto me hath stretched out kindness before the king and his counsellors, and before all the mighty heads of the king: and I have strengthened myself as the hand of Jehovah my God upon me, and I gather out of Israel heads to go up with me.

e que, por sua bondade, favoreceu-me perante o rei, seus conselheiros e todos os seus altos oficiais. Como a mão do Senhor, o meu Deus, esteve sobre mim, tomei coragem e reuni alguns líderes de Israel para me acompanharem.
