1 I exhort, then, first of all, there be made supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, for all men:

Antes de tudo, recomendo que se façam súplicas, orações, intercessões e ações de graças por todos os homens;

2 f or kings, and all who are in authority, that a quiet and peaceable life we may lead in all piety and gravity,

pelos reis e por todos os que exercem autoridade, para que tenhamos uma vida tranqüila e pacífica, com toda a piedade e dignidade.

3 f or this right and acceptable before God our Saviour,

Isso é bom e agradável perante Deus, nosso Salvador,

4 w ho doth will all men to be saved, and to come to the full knowledge of the truth;

que deseja que todos os homens sejam salvos e cheguem ao conhecimento da verdade.

5 f or one God, one also mediator of God and of men, the man Christ Jesus,

Pois há um só Deus e um só mediador entre Deus e os homens: o homem Cristo Jesus,

6 w ho did give himself a ransom for all -- the testimony in its own times --

o qual se entregou a si mesmo como resgate por todos. Esse foi o testemunho dado em seu próprio tempo.

7 i n regard to which I was set a preacher and apostle -- truth I say in Christ, I do not lie -- a teacher of nations, in faith and truth.

Para isso fui designado pregador e apóstolo (Digo-lhes a verdade, não minto.), mestre da verdadeira fé aos gentios.

8 I wish, therefore, that men pray in every place, lifting up kind hands, apart from anger and reasoning;

Quero, pois, que os homens orem em todo lugar, levantando mãos santas, sem ira e sem discussões.

9 i n like manner also the women, in becoming apparel, with modesty and sobriety to adorn themselves, not in braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or garments of great price,

Da mesma forma, quero que as mulheres se vistam modestamente, com decência e discrição, não se adornando com tranças e com ouro, nem com pérolas ou com roupas caras,

10 b ut -- which becometh women professing godly piety -- through good works.

mas com boas obras, como convém a mulheres que declaram adorar a Deus.

11 L et a woman in quietness learn in all subjection,

A mulher deve aprender em silêncio, com toda a sujeição.

12 a nd a woman I do not suffer to teach, nor to rule a husband, but to be in quietness,

Não permito que a mulher ensine, nem que tenha autoridade sobre o homem. Esteja, porém, em silêncio.

13 f or Adam was first formed, then Eve,

Porque primeiro foi formado Adão, e depois Eva.

14 a nd Adam was not deceived, but the woman, having been deceived, into transgression came,

E Adão não foi enganado, mas sim a mulher que, tendo sido enganada, tornou-se transgressora.

15 a nd she shall be saved through the child-bearing, if they remain in faith, and love, and sanctification, with sobriety.

Entretanto, a mulher será salva dando à luz filhos — se permanecerem na fé, no amor e na santidade, com bom senso.
