1 A nd Jesus was walking after these things in Galilee, for he did not wish to walk in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him,

Depois disso Jesus percorreu a Galiléia, mantendo-se deliberadamente longe da Judéia, porque ali os judeus procuravam tirar-lhe a vida.

2 a nd the feast of the Jews was nigh -- that of tabernacles --

Mas, ao se aproximar a festa judaica das cabanas,

3 h is brethren, therefore, said unto him, `Remove hence, and go away to Judea, that thy disciples also may behold thy works that thou dost;

os irmãos de Jesus lhe disseram: “Você deve sair daqui e ir para a Judéia, para que os seus discípulos possam ver as obras que você faz.

4 f or no one in secret doth anything, and himself seeketh to be in public; if thou dost these things -- manifest thyself to the world;'

Ninguém que deseja ser reconhecido publicamente age em segredo. Visto que você está fazendo estas coisas, mostre-se ao mundo”.

5 f or not even were his brethren believing in him.

Pois nem os seus irmãos criam nele.

6 J esus, therefore, saith to them, `My time is not yet present, but your time is always ready;

Então Jesus lhes disse: “Para mim ainda não chegou o tempo certo; para vocês qualquer tempo é certo.

7 t he world is not able to hate you, but me it doth hate, because I testify concerning it that its works are evil.

O mundo não pode odiá-los, mas a mim odeia porque dou testemunho de que o que ele faz é mau.

8 Y e -- go ye up to this feast; I do not yet go up to this feast, because my time hath not yet been fulfilled;'

Vão vocês à festa; eu ainda não subirei a esta festa, porque para mim ainda não chegou o tempo apropriado”.

9 a nd saying these things to them, he remained in Galilee.

Tendo dito isso, permaneceu na Galiléia.

10 A nd when his brethren went up, then also he himself went up to the feast, not manifestly, but as in secret;

Contudo, depois que os seus irmãos subiram para a festa, ele também subiu, não abertamente, mas em segredo.

11 t he Jews, therefore, were seeking him, in the feast, and said, `Where is that one?'

Na festa os judeus o estavam esperando e perguntavam: “Onde está aquele homem?”

12 a nd there was much murmuring about him among the multitudes, some indeed said -- `He is good;' and others said, `No, but he leadeth astray the multitude;'

Entre a multidão havia muitos boatos a respeito dele. Alguns diziam: “É um bom homem”. Outros respondiam: “Não, ele está enganando o povo”.

13 n o one, however, was speaking freely about him, through fear of the Jews.

Mas ninguém falava dele em público, por medo dos judeus. Jesus Ensina na Festa

14 A nd it being now the middle of the feast, Jesus went up to the temple, and he was teaching,

Quando a festa estava na metade, Jesus subiu ao templo e começou a ensinar.

15 a nd the Jews were wondering, saying, `How hath this one known letters -- not having learned?'

Os judeus ficaram admirados e perguntaram: “Como foi que este homem adquiriu tanta instrução, sem ter estudado?”

16 J esus answered them and said, `My teaching is not mine, but His who sent me;

Jesus respondeu: “O meu ensino não é de mim mesmo. Vem daquele que me enviou.

17 i f any one may will to do His will, he shall know concerning the teaching, whether it is of God, or -- I do speak from myself.

Se alguém decidir fazer a vontade de Deus, descobrirá se o meu ensino vem de Deus ou se falo por mim mesmo.

18 ` He who is speaking from himself his own glory doth seek, but he who is seeking the glory of him who sent him, this one is true, and unrighteousness is not in him;

Aquele que fala por si mesmo busca a sua própria glória, mas aquele que busca a glória de quem o enviou, este é verdadeiro; não há nada de falso a seu respeito.

19 h ath not Moses given you the law? and none of you doth the law; why me do ye seek to kill?'

Moisés não lhes deu a Lei? No entanto, nenhum de vocês lhe obedece. Por que vocês procuram matar-me?”

20 T he multitude answered and said, `Thou hast a demon, who doth seek to kill thee?'

“Você está endemoninhado”, respondeu a multidão. “Quem está procurando matá-lo?”

21 J esus answered and said to them, `One work I did, and ye all wonder,

Jesus lhes disse: “Fiz um milagre, e vocês todos estão admirados.

22 b ecause of this, Moses hath given you the circumcision -- not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers -- and on a sabbath ye circumcise a man;

No entanto, porque Moisés lhes deu a circuncisão (embora, na verdade, ela não tenha vindo de Moisés, mas dos patriarcas), vocês circuncidam no sábado.

23 i f a man doth receive circumcision on a sabbath that the law of Moses may not be broken, are ye wroth with me that I made a man all whole on a sabbath?

24 j udge not according to appearance, but the righteous judgment judge.'

Não julguem apenas pela aparência, mas façam julgamentos justos”. É Jesus o Cristo?

25 C ertain, therefore, of the Jerusalemites said, `Is not this he whom they are seeking to kill?

Então alguns habitantes de Jerusalém começaram a perguntar: “Não é este o homem que estão procurando matar?

26 a nd, lo, he doth speak freely, and they say nothing to him; did the rulers at all know truly that this is truly the Christ?

Aqui está ele, falando publicamente, e não lhe dizem uma palavra. Será que as autoridades chegaram à conclusão de que ele é realmente o Cristo?

27 b ut this one -- we have known whence he is; and the Christ, when he doth come, no one doth know whence he is.'

Mas nós sabemos de onde é este homem; quando o Cristo vier, ninguém saberá de onde ele é”.

28 J esus cried, therefore, in the temple, teaching and saying, `Ye have both known me, and ye have known whence I am; and I have not come of myself, but He who sent me is true, whom ye have not known;

Enquanto ensinava no pátio do templo, Jesus exclamou: “Sim, vocês me conhecem e sabem de onde sou. Eu não estou aqui por mim mesmo, mas aquele que me enviou é verdadeiro. Vocês não o conhecem,

29 a nd I have known Him, because I am from Him, and He did send me.'

mas eu o conheço porque venho da parte dele, e ele me enviou”.

30 T hey were seeking, therefore, to seize him, and no one laid the hand on him, because his hour had not yet come,

Então tentaram prendê-lo, mas ninguém lhe pôs as mãos, porque a sua hora ainda não havia chegado.

31 a nd many out of the multitude did believe in him, and said -- `The Christ -- when he may come -- will he do more signs than these that this one did?'

Assim mesmo, muitos dentre a multidão creram nele e diziam: “Quando o Cristo vier, fará mais sinais miraculosos do que este homem fez?”

32 T he Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers that they may take him;

Os fariseus ouviram a multidão falando essas coisas a respeito dele. Então os chefes dos sacerdotes e os fariseus enviaram guardas do templo para o prenderem.

33 J esus, therefore, said to them, `Yet a little time I am with you, and I go away unto Him who sent me;

Disse-lhes Jesus: “Estou com vocês apenas por pouco tempo e logo irei para aquele que me enviou.

34 y e will seek me, and ye shall not find; and where I am, ye are not able to come.'

Vocês procurarão por mim, mas não me encontrarão; vocês não podem ir ao lugar onde eu estarei”.

35 T he Jews, therefore, said among themselves, `Whither is this one about to go that we shall not find him? -- to the dispersion of the Greeks is he about to go? and to teach the Greeks;

Os judeus disseram uns aos outros: “Aonde pretende ir este homem, que não o possamos encontrar? Para onde vive o nosso povo, espalhado entre os gregos, a fim de ensiná-lo?

36 w hat is this word that he said, Ye will seek me, and ye shall not find? and, Where I am, ye are not able to come?'

O que ele quis dizer quando falou: ‘Vocês procurarão por mim, mas não me encontrarão’ e ‘vocês não podem ir ao lugar onde eu estarei’?”

37 A nd in the last, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, `If any one doth thirst, let him come unto me and drink;

No último e mais importante dia da festa, Jesus levantou-se e disse em alta voz: “Se alguém tem sede, venha a mim e beba.

38 h e who is believing in me, according as the Writing said, Rivers out of his belly shall flow of living water;'

Quem crer em mim, como diz a Escritura, do seu interior fluirão rios de água viva”.

39 a nd this he said of the Spirit, which those believing in him were about to receive; for not yet was the Holy Spirit, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Ele estava se referindo ao Espírito, que mais tarde receberiam os que nele cressem. Até então o Espírito ainda não tinha sido dado, pois Jesus ainda não fora glorificado.

40 M any, therefore out of the multitude, having heard the word, said, `This is truly the Prophet;'

Ouvindo as suas palavras, alguns dentre o povo disseram: “Certamente este homem é o Profeta”.

41 o thers said, `This is the Christ;' and others said, `Why, out of Galilee doth the Christ come?

Outros disseram: “Ele é o Cristo”. Ainda outros perguntaram: “Como pode o Cristo vir da Galiléia?

42 D id not the Writing say, that out of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem -- the village where David was -- the Christ doth come?'

A Escritura não diz que o Cristo virá da descendência de Davi, da cidade de Belém, onde viveu Davi?”

43 A division, therefore, arose among the multitude because of him.

Assim o povo ficou dividido por causa de Jesus.

44 A nd certain of them were willing to seize him, but no one laid hands on him;

Alguns queriam prendê-lo, mas ninguém lhe pôs as mãos. A Incredulidade dos Líderes Judeus

45 t he officers came, therefore, unto the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, `Wherefore did ye not bring him?'

Finalmente, os guardas do templo voltaram aos chefes dos sacerdotes e aos fariseus, os quais lhes perguntaram: “Por que vocês não o trouxeram?”

46 T he officers answered, `Never so spake man -- as this man.'

“Ninguém jamais falou da maneira como esse homem fala”, declararam os guardas.

47 T he Pharisees, therefore, answered them, `Have ye also been led astray?

“Será que vocês também foram enganados?”, perguntaram os fariseus.

48 d id any one out of the rulers believe in him? or out of the Pharisees?

“Por acaso alguém das autoridades ou dos fariseus creu nele?

49 b ut this multitude, that is not knowing the law, is accursed.'

Não! Mas essa ralé que nada entende da lei é maldita.”

50 N icodemus saith unto them -- he who came by night unto him -- being one of them,

Nicodemos, um deles, que antes tinha procurado Jesus, perguntou-lhes:

51 ` Doth our law judge the man, if it may not hear from him first, and know what he doth?'

“A nossa lei condena alguém, sem primeiro ouvi-lo para saber o que ele está fazendo?”

52 T hey answered and said to him, `Art thou also out of Galilee? search and see, that a prophet out of Galilee hath not risen;'

Eles responderam: “Você também é da Galiléia? Verifique, e descobrirá que da Galiléia não surge profeta ”.

53 a nd each one went on to his house, but Jesus went on to the mount of the Olives.

Então cada um foi para a sua casa.
