1 A nd Dinah, daughter of Leah, whom she hath borne to Jacob, goeth out to look on the daughters of the land,

Certa vez, Diná, a filha que Lia dera a Jacó, saiu para conhecer as mulheres daquela terra.

2 a nd Shechem, son of Hamor the Hivite, a prince of the land, seeth her, and taketh her, and lieth with her, and humbleth her;

Siquém, filho de Hamor, o heveu, governador daquela região, viu-a, agarrou-a e a violentou.

3 a nd his soul cleaveth to Dinah, daughter of Jacob, and he loveth the young person, and speaketh unto the heart of the young person.

Mas o seu coração foi atraído por Diná, filha de Jacó, e ele amou a moça e falou-lhe com ternura.

4 A nd Shechem speaketh unto Hamor his father, saying, `Take for me this damsel for a wife.'

Por isso Siquém foi dizer a seu pai Hamor: “Consiga-me aquela moça para que seja minha mulher”.

5 A nd Jacob hath heard that he hath defiled Dinah his daughter, and his sons were with his cattle in the field, and Jacob kept silent till their coming.

Quando Jacó soube que sua filha Diná tinha sido desonrada, seus filhos estavam no campo, com os rebanhos; por isso esperou calado até que regressassem.

6 A nd Hamor, father of Shechem, goeth out unto Jacob to speak with him;

Então Hamor, pai de Siquém, foi conversar com Jacó.

7 a nd the sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard, and the men grieve themselves, and it very displeasing to them, for folly he hath done against Israel, to lie with the daughter of Jacob -- and so it is not done.

Quando os filhos de Jacó voltaram do campo e souberam de tudo, ficaram profundamente entristecidos e irados, porque Siquém tinha cometido um ato vergonhoso em Israel, ao deitar-se com a filha de Jacó — coisa que não se faz.

8 A nd Hamor speaketh with them, saying, `Shechem, my son, his soul hath cleaved to your daughter; give her, I pray you, to him for a wife,

Mas Hamor lhes disse: “Meu filho Siquém apaixonou-se pela filha de vocês. Por favor, entreguem-na a ele para que seja sua mulher.

9 a nd join ye in marriage with us; your daughters ye give to us, and our daughters ye take to yourselves,

Casem-se entre nós; dêem-nos suas filhas e tomem para si as nossas.

10 a nd with us ye dwell, and the land is before you; dwell ye and trade it, and have possessions in it.'

Estabeleçam-se entre nós. A terra está aberta para vocês: habitem-na, façam comércio nela e adquiram propriedades”.

11 A nd Shechem saith unto her father, and unto her brethren, `Let me find grace in your eyes, and that which ye say unto me, I give;

Então Siquém disse ao pai e aos irmãos de Diná: “Concedam-me este favor, e eu lhes darei o que me pedirem.

12 m ultiply on me exceedingly dowry and gift, and I give as ye say unto me, and give to me the young person for a wife.'

Aumentem quanto quiserem o preço e o presente pela noiva, e pagarei o que me pedirem. Tão-somente me dêem a moça por mulher”.

13 A nd the sons of Jacob answer Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully, and they speak (because he defiled Dinah their sister),

Os filhos de Jacó, porém, responderam com falsidade a Siquém e a seu pai Hamor, por ter Siquém desonrado Diná, a irmã deles.

14 a nd say unto them, `We are not able to do this thing, to give our sister to one who hath a foreskin: for it a reproach to us.

Disseram: “Não podemos fazer isso; jamais entregaremos nossa irmã a um homem que não seja circuncidado. Seria uma vergonha para nós.

15 ` Only for this we consent to you; if ye be as we, to have every male of you circumcised,

Daremos nosso consentimento a vocês com uma condição: que vocês se tornem como nós, circuncidando todos os do sexo masculino.

16 t hen we have given our daughters to you, and your daughters we take to ourselves, and we have dwelt with you, and have become one people;

Só então lhes daremos as nossas filhas e poderemos casar-nos com as suas. Nós nos estabeleceremos entre vocês e seremos um só povo.

17 a nd if ye hearken not unto us to be circumcised, then we have taken our daughter, and have gone.'

Mas se não aceitarem circuncidar-se, tomaremos nossa irmã e partiremos”.

18 A nd their words are good in the eyes of Hamor, and in the eyes of Shechem, Hamor's son;

A proposta deles pareceu boa a Hamor e a seu filho Siquém.

19 a nd the young man delayed not to do the thing, for he had delight in Jacob's daughter, and he is honourable above all the house of his father.

O jovem, que era o mais respeitado de todos os da casa de seu pai, não demorou em cumprir o que pediram, porque realmente gostava da filha de Jacó.

20 A nd Hamor cometh -- Shechem his son also -- unto the gate of their city, and they speak unto the men of their city, saying,

Assim Hamor e seu filho Siquém dirigiram-se à porta da cidade para conversar com os seus concidadãos. E disseram:

21 ` These men are peaceable with us; then let them dwell in the land, and trade it; and the land, lo, wide before them; their daughters let us take to ourselves for wives, and our daughters give to them.

“Esses homens são de paz. Permitam que eles habitem em nossa terra e façam comércio entre nós; a terra tem bastante lugar para eles. Poderemos casar com as suas filhas, e eles com as nossas.

22 ` Only for this do the men consent to us, to dwell with us, to become one people, in every male of us being circumcised, as they are circumcised;

Mas eles só consentirão em viver conosco como um só povo sob a condição de que todos os nossos homens sejam circuncidados, como eles.

23 t heir cattle, and their substance, and all their beasts -- are they not ours? only let us consent to them, and they dwell with us.'

Lembrem-se de que os seus rebanhos, os seus bens e todos os seus outros animais passarão a ser nossos. Aceitemos então a condição para que se estabeleçam em nosso meio”.

24 A nd unto Hamor, and unto Shechem his son, hearken do all those going out of the gate of his city, and every male is circumcised, all those going out of the gate of his city.

Todos os que saíram para reunir-se à porta da cidade concordaram com Hamor e com seu filho Siquém, e todos os homens e meninos da cidade foram circuncidados.

25 A nd it cometh to pass, on the third day, in their being pained, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brethren, take each his sword, and come in against the city confidently, and slay every male;

Três dias depois, quando ainda sofriam dores, dois filhos de Jacó, Simeão e Levi, irmãos de Diná, pegaram suas espadas e atacaram a cidade desprevenida, matando todos os homens.

26 a nd Hamor, and Shechem his son, they have slain by the mouth of the sword, and they take Dinah out of Shechem's house, and go out.

Mataram ao fio da espada Hamor e seu filho Siquém, tiraram Diná da casa de Siquém e partiram.

27 J acob's sons have come in upon the wounded, and they spoil the city, because they had defiled their sister;

Vieram então os outros filhos de Jacó e, passando pelos corpos, saquearam a cidade onde sua irmã tinha sido desonrada.

28 t heir flock and their herd, and their asses, and that which in the city, and that which in the field, have they taken;

Apoderaram-se das ovelhas, dos bois e dos jumentos, e de tudo o que havia na cidade e no campo.

29 a nd all their wealth, and all their infants, and their wives they have taken captive, and they spoil also all that in the house.

Levaram as mulheres e as crianças, e saquearam todos os bens e tudo o que havia nas casas.

30 A nd Jacob saith unto Simeon and unto Levi, `Ye have troubled me, by causing me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanite, and among the Perizzite: and I few in number, and they have been gathered against me, and have smitten me, and I have been destroyed, I and my house.'

Então Jacó disse a Simeão e a Levi: “Vocês me puseram em grandes apuros, atraindo sobre mim o ódio dos cananeus e dos ferezeus, habitantes desta terra. Somos poucos, e se eles juntarem suas forças e nos atacarem, eu e a minha família seremos destruídos”.

31 A nd they say, `As a harlot doth he make our sister?'

Mas eles responderam: “Está certo ele tratar nossa irmã como uma prostituta?”
