1 A nd Dinah, daughter of Leah, whom she hath borne to Jacob, goeth out to look on the daughters of the land,

Diná, filha de Léia, que esta tivera de Jacó, saiu para ver as filhas da terra.

2 a nd Shechem, son of Hamor the Hivite, a prince of the land, seeth her, and taketh her, and lieth with her, and humbleth her;

Viu-a Siquém, filho de Hamor o heveu, príncipe da terra; e, tomando-a, deitou-se com ela e humilhou-a.

3 a nd his soul cleaveth to Dinah, daughter of Jacob, and he loveth the young person, and speaketh unto the heart of the young person.

Assim se apegou a sua alma a Diná, filha de Jacó, e, amando a donzela, falou-lhe afetuosamente.

4 A nd Shechem speaketh unto Hamor his father, saying, `Take for me this damsel for a wife.'

Então disse Siquém a Hamor seu pai: Consegue-me esta donzela por mulher.

5 A nd Jacob hath heard that he hath defiled Dinah his daughter, and his sons were with his cattle in the field, and Jacob kept silent till their coming.

Ora, Jacó ouviu que Siquém havia contaminado a Diná sua filha. Entretanto, estando seus filhos no campo com o gado, calou-se Jacó até que viessem.

6 A nd Hamor, father of Shechem, goeth out unto Jacob to speak with him;

Hamor, pai de Siquém, saiu a fim de falar com Jacó.

7 a nd the sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard, and the men grieve themselves, and it very displeasing to them, for folly he hath done against Israel, to lie with the daughter of Jacob -- and so it is not done.

Os filhos de Jacó, pois, vieram do campo logo que souberam do caso; e entristeceram-se e iraram-se muito, porque Siquém havia cometido uma insensatez em Israel, deitando-se com a filha de Jacó, coisa que não se devia fazer.

8 A nd Hamor speaketh with them, saying, `Shechem, my son, his soul hath cleaved to your daughter; give her, I pray you, to him for a wife,

Então falou Hamor com eles, dizendo: A alma de meu filho Siquém afeiçoou-se fortemente a vossa filha; dai-lha, peço-vos, por mulher.

9 a nd join ye in marriage with us; your daughters ye give to us, and our daughters ye take to yourselves,

Também aparentai-vos conosco; dai-nos as vossas filhas e recebei as nossas.

10 a nd with us ye dwell, and the land is before you; dwell ye and trade it, and have possessions in it.'

Assim habitareis conosco; a terra estará diante de vós; habitai e negociai nela, e nela adquiri propriedades.

11 A nd Shechem saith unto her father, and unto her brethren, `Let me find grace in your eyes, and that which ye say unto me, I give;

Depois disse Siquém ao pai e aos irmãos dela: Ache eu graça aos vossos olhos, e darei o que me disserdes;

12 m ultiply on me exceedingly dowry and gift, and I give as ye say unto me, and give to me the young person for a wife.'

exigi de mim o que quiserdes em dote e presentes, e darei o que me pedirdes; somente dai-me a donzela por mulher.

13 A nd the sons of Jacob answer Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully, and they speak (because he defiled Dinah their sister),

Então os filhos de Jacó, respondendo, falaram enganosamente a Siquém e a Hamor, seu pai, porque Siquém havia contaminado a Diná, sua irmã,

14 a nd say unto them, `We are not able to do this thing, to give our sister to one who hath a foreskin: for it a reproach to us.

e lhes disseram: Não podemos fazer p isto, dar a nossa irmã a um homem incircunciso; porque isso seria uma vergonha para nós.

15 ` Only for this we consent to you; if ye be as we, to have every male of you circumcised,

Sob esta única condição consentiremos; se vos tornardes como nós, circuncidando-se todo varão entre vós;

16 t hen we have given our daughters to you, and your daughters we take to ourselves, and we have dwelt with you, and have become one people;

então vos daremos nossas filhas a vós, e receberemos vossas filhas para nós; assim habitaremos convosco e nos tornaremos um só povo.

17 a nd if ye hearken not unto us to be circumcised, then we have taken our daughter, and have gone.'

Mas se não nos ouvirdes, e não vos circuncidardes, levaremos nossa filha e nos iremos embora.

18 A nd their words are good in the eyes of Hamor, and in the eyes of Shechem, Hamor's son;

E suas palavras agradaram a Hamor e a Siquém, seu filho.

19 a nd the young man delayed not to do the thing, for he had delight in Jacob's daughter, and he is honourable above all the house of his father.

Não tardou, pois, o mancebo em fazer isso, porque se agradava da filha de Jacó. Era ele o mais honrado de toda a casa de seu pai.

20 A nd Hamor cometh -- Shechem his son also -- unto the gate of their city, and they speak unto the men of their city, saying,

Vieram, pois, Hamor e Siquém, seu filho, ã porta da sua cidade, e falaram aos homens da cidade, dizendo:

21 ` These men are peaceable with us; then let them dwell in the land, and trade it; and the land, lo, wide before them; their daughters let us take to ourselves for wives, and our daughters give to them.

Estes homens são pacíficos para conosco; portanto habitem na terra e negociem nela, pois é bastante espaçosa para eles. Recebamos por mulheres as suas filhas, e lhes demos as nossas.

22 ` Only for this do the men consent to us, to dwell with us, to become one people, in every male of us being circumcised, as they are circumcised;

Mas sob uma única condição é que consentirão aqueles homens em habitar conosco para nos tornarmos um só povo: se todo varão entre nós se circuncidar, como eles são circuncidados.

23 t heir cattle, and their substance, and all their beasts -- are they not ours? only let us consent to them, and they dwell with us.'

O seu gado, as suas aquisições, e todos os seus animais, não serão nossos? consintamos somente com eles, e habitarão conosco.

24 A nd unto Hamor, and unto Shechem his son, hearken do all those going out of the gate of his city, and every male is circumcised, all those going out of the gate of his city.

E deram ouvidos a Hamor e a Siquém, seu filho, todos os que saíam da porta da cidade; e foi circuncidado todo varão, todos os que saíam pela porta da sua cidade.

25 A nd it cometh to pass, on the third day, in their being pained, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brethren, take each his sword, and come in against the city confidently, and slay every male;

Ao terceiro dia, quando os homens estavam doridos, dois filhos de Jacó, Simeão e Levi, irmãos de Diná, tomaram cada um a sua espada, entraram na cidade com toda a segurança e mataram todo varão.

26 a nd Hamor, and Shechem his son, they have slain by the mouth of the sword, and they take Dinah out of Shechem's house, and go out.

Mataram também ao fio da espada a Hamor e a Siquém, seu filho; e, tirando Diná da casa de Siquém, saíram.

27 J acob's sons have come in upon the wounded, and they spoil the city, because they had defiled their sister;

Vieram os filhos de Jacó aos mortos e saquearam a cidade; porquanto haviam contaminado a sua irmã.

28 t heir flock and their herd, and their asses, and that which in the city, and that which in the field, have they taken;

Tomaram-lhes os rebanhos, os bois, os jumentos, e o que havia tanto na cidade como no campo;

29 a nd all their wealth, and all their infants, and their wives they have taken captive, and they spoil also all that in the house.

e todos os seus bens, e todos os seus pequeninos, e as suas mulheres, levaram por presa; e despojando as casas, levaram tudo o que havia nelas.

30 A nd Jacob saith unto Simeon and unto Levi, `Ye have troubled me, by causing me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanite, and among the Perizzite: and I few in number, and they have been gathered against me, and have smitten me, and I have been destroyed, I and my house.'

Então disse Jacó a Simeão e a Levi: Tendes-me perturbado, fazendo-me odioso aos habitantes da terra, aos cananeus e perizeus. Tendo eu pouca gente, eles se ajuntarão e me ferirão; e serei destruído, eu com minha casa.

31 A nd they say, `As a harlot doth he make our sister?'

Ao que responderam: Devia ele tratar a nossa irmã como a uma prostituta?
