1 A nd Joshua riseth early in the morning, and they journey from Shittim, and come in unto the Jordan, he and all the sons of Israel, and they lodge there before they pass over.

Levantou-se, pois, Josué de madrugada e, partindo de Sitim ele e todos os filhos de Israel, vieram ao Jordão; e pousaram ali, antes de atravessá-lo.

2 A nd it cometh to pass, at the end of three days, that the authorities pass over into the midst of the camp,

E sucedeu, ao fim de três dias, que os oficiais passaram pelo meio do arraial,

3 a nd command the people, saying, `When ye see the ark of the covenant of Jehovah your God, and the priests, the Levites, bearing it, then ye journey from your place, and have gone after it;

e ordenaram ao povo, dizendo: Quando virdes a arca da pacto do Senhor vosso Deus sendo levada pelos levitas sacerdotes, partireis vós também do vosso lugar, e a seguireis

4 o nly, a distance is between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure; ye do not come near unto it, so that ye know the way in which ye go, for ye have not passed over in the way heretofore.'

(haja, contudo, entre vós e ela, uma distância de dois mil côvados, e não vos chegueis a ela), para que saibais o caminho pelo qual haveis de ir, porquanto por este caminho nunca dantes passastes.

5 A nd Joshua saith unto the people, `Sanctify yourselves, for to-morrow doth Jehovah do in your midst wonders.'

Disse Josué também ae povo: Santificai-vos, porque amanhã o Senhor fará maravilhas no meio de vós.

6 A nd Joshua speaketh unto the priests, saying, `Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people;' and they take up the ark of the covenant, and go before the people.

E falou Josué aos sacerdotes, dizendo: Levantai a arca do pacto, e passai adiante do povo. Levantaram, pois, a arca do pacto, e foram andando adiante do povo.

7 A nd Jehovah saith unto Joshua, `This day I begin to make thee great in the eyes of all Israel, so that they know that as I was with Moses I am with thee;

Então disse o Senhor a Josué: Hoje começarei a engrandecer- te perante os olhos de todo o Israel, para que saibam que, assim como fui com Moisés, serei contigo.

8 a nd thou, thou dost command the priests bearing the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye come unto the extremity of the waters of the Jordan -- in the Jordan ye stand.'

Tu, pois, ordenarás aos sacerdotes que levam a arca do pacto, dizendo: Quando chegardes ã beira das águas de Jordão, aí parareis.

9 A nd Joshua saith unto the sons of Israel, `Come nigh hither, and hear the words of Jehovah your God;

Disse então Josué aos filhos de Israel: Aproximai-vos, e ouvi as palavras do Senhor vosso Deus.

10 a nd Joshua saith, `By this ye know that the living God in your midst, and He doth certainly dispossess from before you the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Hivite, and the Perizzite, and the Girgashite, and the Amorite, and the Jebusite:

E acrescentou: Nisto conhecereis que o Deus vivo está no meio de vós, e que certamente expulsará de diante de vós os cananeus, os heteus, os heveus, os perizeus, os girgaseus, os amorreus e os jebuseus.

11 l o, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is passing over before you into Jordan;

Eis que a arca do pacto do Senhrr de toda a terra passará adiante de vós para o meio do Jordão.

12 a nd now, take for you twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, one man -- one man for a tribe;

Tomai, pois, agora doze homens das tribos de Israel, de cada tribo um homem;

13 a nd it hath been, at the resting of the soles of the feet of the priests bearing the ark of Jehovah, Lord of all the earth, in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan are cut off -- the waters which are coming down from above -- and they stand -- one heap.'

porque assim que as plantas dos pés dos sacerdotes que levam a arca do Senhor, o Senhor de toda a terra, pousarem nas águas do Jordão, estas serão cortadas, isto é, as águas que vêm de cima, e, amontoadas, pararão.

14 A nd it cometh to pass, in the journeying of the people from their tents to pass over the Jordan, and of the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people,

Quando, pois, o povo partiu das suas tendas para atravessar o Jordão, levando os sacerdotes a arca do pacto adiante do povo,

15 a nd at those bearing the ark coming in unto the Jordan, and the feet of the priests bearing the ark have been dipped in the extremity of the waters (and the Jordan is full over all its banks all the days of harvest) --

e quando os que levavam a arca chegaram ao Jordão, e os seus pés se mergulharam na beira das águas (porque o Jordão transbordava todas as suas ribanceiras durante todos os dias da sega),

16 t hat the waters stand; those coming down from above have risen -- one heap, very far above Adam the city, which at the side of Zaretan; and those going down by the sea of the plain, the Salt Sea, have been completely cut off; and the people have passed through over-against Jericho;

as águas que vinham de cima, parando, levantaram-se num montão, mui longe, ã altura de Adã, cidade que está junto a Zaretã; e as que desciam ao mar da Arabá, que é o Mar Salgado, foram de todo cortadas. Então o povo passou bem em frente de Jericó.

17 a nd the priests bearing the ark of the covenant of Jehovah stand on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan -- established, and all Israel are passing over on dry ground till that all the nation hath completed to pass over the Jordan.

Os sacerdotes que levavam a arca do pacto do Senhor pararam firmes em seco no meio do Jordão, e todo o Israel foi passando a pé enxuto, até que todo o povo acabou de passar o Jordão.
