1 A nd David fleeth from Naioth in Ramah, and cometh, and saith before Jonathan, `What have I done? what mine iniquity? and what my sin before thy father, that he is seeking my life?'

Então fugiu Davi de Naiote, em Ramá, veio ter com Jônatas e lhe disse: Que fiz eu? qual é a minha iniqüidade? e qual é o meu pecado diante de teu pai, para que procure tirar-me a vida?

2 A nd he saith to him, `Far be it! thou dost not die; lo, my father doth not do anything great or small and doth not uncover mine ear; and wherefore doth my father hide from me this thing? this is not.'

E ele lhe disse: Longe disso! não hás de morrer. Meu pai não faz coisa alguma, nem grande nem pequena, sem que primeiro ma participe; por que, pois, meu pai me encobriria este negócio? Não é verdade.

3 A nd David sweareth again, and saith, `Thy father hath certainly known that I have found grace in thine eyes, and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved; and yet, Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, but -- as a step between me and death.'

Respondeu-lhe Davi, com juramento: Teu pai bem sabe que achei graça aos teus olhos; pelo que disse: Não saiba isto Jônatas, para que não se magoe. Mas, na verdade, como vive o Senhor, e como vive a tua alma, há apenas um passo entre mim e a morte.

4 A nd Jonathan saith to David, `What doth thy soul say? -- and I do it for thee.'

Disse Jônatas a Davi: O que desejas tu que eu te faça?

5 A nd David saith unto Jonathan, `Lo, the new moon to-morrow; and I do certainly sit with the king to eat; and thou hast sent me away, and I have been hidden in a field till the third evening;

Respondeu Davi a Jônatas: Eis que amanhã é a lua nova, e eu deveria sentar-me com o rei para comer; porém deixa-me ir, e esconder-me-ei no campo até a tarde do terceiro dia.

6 i f thy father at all look after me, and thou hast said, David asked earnestly of me to run to Beth-Lehem his city, for a sacrifice of the days there for all the family.

Se teu pai notar a minha ausência, dirás: Davi me pediu muito que o deixasse ir correndo a Belém, sua cidade, porquanto se faz lá o sacrifício anual para toda a parentela.

7 I f thus he say: Good; peace for thy servant; and if it be very displeasing to him -- know that the evil hath been determined by him;

Se ele disser: Está bem; então teu servo tem paz; porém se ele muito se indignar, fica sabendo que ele já está resolvido a praticar o mal.

8 a nd thou hast done kindness, to thy servant, for into a covenant of Jehovah thou hast brought thy servant with thee; -- and if there is in me iniquity, put thou me to death; and unto thy father, why is this -- thou dost bring me in?'

Usa, pois, de misericórdia para com o teu servo, porque o fizeste entrar contigo em aliança do Senhor; se, porém, há culpa em mim, mata-me tu mesmo; por que me levarias a teu pai?

9 A nd Jonathan saith, `Far be it from thee! for I certainly do not know that the evil hath been determined by my father to come upon thee, and I do not declare it to thee.'

Ao que respondeu Jônatas: Longe de ti tal coisa! Se eu soubesse que meu pai estava resolvido a trazer o mal sobre ti, não to descobriria eu?

10 A nd David saith unto Jonathan, `Who doth declare to me? or what thy father doth answer thee sharply?'

Perguntou, pois, Davi a Jônatas: Quem me fará saber, se por acaso teu pai te responder asperamente?

11 A nd Jonathan saith unto David, `Come, and we go out into the field;' and they go out both of them into the field.

Então disse Jônatas a Davi: Vem, e saiamos ao campo. E saíram ambos ao campo.

12 A nd Jonathan saith unto David, `Jehovah, God of Israel -- when I search my father, about time to-morrow the third, and lo, good towards David, and I do not then send unto thee, and have uncovered thine ear --

E disse Jônatas a Davi: O Senhor, Deus de Israel, seja testemunha! Sondando eu a meu pai amanhã a estas horas, ou depois de amanhã, se houver coisa favorável para Davi, eu não enviarei a ti e não to farei saber?

13 t hus doth Jehovah do to Jonathan, and thus doth He add; when the evil concerning thee is good to my father, then I have uncovered thine ear, and sent thee away, and thou hast gone in peace, and Jehovah is with thee, as he was with my father;

O Senhor faça assim a Jônatas, e outro tanto, se, querendo meu pai fazer-te mal, eu não te fizer saber, e não te deixar partir, para ires em paz; e o Senhor seja contigo, assim como foi com meu pai.

14 a nd not only while I am alive dost thou do with me the kindness of Jehovah, and I die not,

E não somente usarás para comigo, enquanto viver, da benevolência do Senhor, para que não morra,

15 b ut thou dost not cut off thy kindness from my house unto the age, nor in Jehovah's cutting off the enemies of David, each one from off the face of the ground.'

como também não cortarás nunca da minha casa a tua benevolência, nem ainda quando o Senhor tiver desarraigado da terra a cada um dos inimigos de Davi.

16 A nd Jonathan covenanteth with the house of David, and Jehovah hath sought from the hand of the enemies of David;

Assim fez Jônatas aliança com a casa de Davi, dizendo: O Senhor se vingue dos inimigos de Davi.

17 a nd Jonathan addeth to cause David to swear, because he loveth him, for with the love of his own soul he hath loved him.

Então Jônatas fez Davi jurar de novo, porquanto o amava; porque o amava com todo o amor da sua alma.

18 A nd Jonathan saith to him, `To-morrow new moon, and thou hast been looked after, for thy seat is looked after;

Disse-lhe ainda Jônatas: Amanhã é a lua nova, e notar-se-á a tua ausência, pois o teu lugar estará vazio.

19 a nd on the third day thou dost certainly come down, and hast come in unto the place where thou wast hidden in the day of the work, and hast remained near the stone Ezel.

Ao terceiro dia descerás apressadamente, e irás

20 ` And I shoot three of the arrows at the side, sending out for myself at a mark;

E eu atirarei três flechas para aquela banda, como se atirasse ao alvo.

21 a nd lo, I send the youth: Go, find the arrows. If I at all say to the youth, Lo, the arrows on this side of thee -- take them, -- then come thou, for peace for thee, and there is nothing; Jehovah liveth.

Então mandarei o moço, dizendo: Anda, busca as flechas. Se eu expressamente disser ao moço: Olha que as flechas estão para cá de ti, apanha-as; então vem, porque, como vive o Senhor, há paz para ti, e não há nada a temer.

22 A nd if thus I say to the young man, Lo, the arrows beyond thee, -- go, for Jehovah hath sent thee away;

Mas se eu disser ao moço assim: Olha que as flechas estão para lá de ti; vai-te embora, porque o Senhor te manda ir.

23 a s to the thing which we have spoken, I and thou, lo, Jehovah between me and thee -- unto the age.'

E quanto ao negócio de que eu e tu falamos, o Senhor é testemunha entre mim e ti para sempre.

24 A nd David is hidden in the field, and it is the new moon, and the king sitteth down by the food to eat,

Escondeu-se, pois, Davi no campo; e, sendo a lua nova, sentou-se o rei para comer.

25 a nd the king sitteth on his seat, as time by time, on a seat by the wall, and Jonathan riseth, and Abner sitteth at the side of Saul, and David's place is looked after.

E, sentando-se o rei, como de costume, no seu assento junto ã parede, Jônatas sentou-se defronte dele, e Abner sentou-se ao lado de Saul; e o lugar de Davi ficou vazio.

26 A nd Saul hath not spoken anything on that day, for he said, `It an accident; he is not clean -- surely not clean.'

Entretanto Saul não disse nada naquele dia, pois dizia consigo: Aconteceu-lhe alguma coisa pela qual não está limpo; certamente não está limpo.

27 A nd it cometh to pass on the second morrow of the new moon, that David's place is looked after, and Saul saith unto Jonathan his son, `Wherefore hath the son of Jesse not come in, either yesterday or to-day, unto the food?'

Sucedeu também no dia seguinte, o segundo da lua nova, que o lugar de Davi ficou vazio. Perguntou, pois, Saul a Jônatas, seu filho: Por que o filho de Jessé não veio comer nem ontem nem hoje?

28 A nd Jonathan answereth Saul, `David hath been earnestly asked of me unto Beth-Lehem,

Respondeu Jônatas a Saul: Davi pediu-me encarecidamente licença para ir a Belém,

29 a nd he saith, Send me away, I pray thee, for a family sacrifice we have in the city, and my brother himself hath given command to me, and now, if I have found grace in thine eyes, let me go away, I pray thee, and see my brethren; therefore he hath not come unto the table of the king.'

dizendo: Peço-te que me deixes ir, porquanto a nossa parentela tem um sacrifício na cidade, e meu irmão ordenou que eu fosse; se, pois, agora tenho achado graça aos teus olhos, peço-te que me deixes ir, para ver a meus irmãos. Por isso não veio ã mesa do rei.

30 A nd the anger of Saul burneth against Jonathan, and he saith to him, `Son of a perverse rebellious woman! have I not known that thou art fixing on the son of Jesse to thy shame, and to the shame of the nakedness of thy mother?

Então se acendeu a ira de Saul contra Jônatas, e ele lhe disse: Filho da perversa e rebelde! Não sei eu que tens escolhido a filho de Jessé para vergonha tua, e para vergonha de tua mãe?

31 f or all the days that the son of Jesse liveth on the ground thou art not established, thou and thy kingdom; and now, send and bring him unto me, for he a son of death.'

Pois por todo o tempo em que o filho de Jessé viver sobre a terra, nem tu estarás seguro, nem o teu reino; pelo que envia agora, e traze-mo, porque ele há de morrer.

32 A nd Jonathan answereth Saul his father, and saith unto him, `Why is he put to death? what hath he done?'

Ao que respondeu Jônatas a Saul, seu pai, e lhe disse: Por que há de morrer. que fez ele?

33 A nd Saul casteth the javelin at him to smite him, and Jonathan knoweth that it hath been determined by his father to put David to death.

Então Saul levantou a lança, para o ferir; assim entendeu Jônatas que seu pai tinha determinado matar a Davi.

34 A nd Jonathan riseth from the table in the heat of anger, and hath not eaten food on the second day of the new moon, for he hath been grieved for David, for his father put him to shame.

Pelo que Jônatas, todo encolerizado, se levantou da mesa, e no segundo dia do mês não comeu; pois se magoava por causa de Davi, porque seu pai o tinha ultrajado.

35 A nd it cometh to pass in the morning, that Jonathan goeth out into the field for the appointment with David, and a little youth with him.

Jônatas, pois, saiu ao campo, pela manhã, ao tempo que tinha ajustado com Davi, levando consigo um rapazinho.

36 A nd he saith to his youth, `Run, find, I pray thee, the arrows which I am shooting;' the youth is running, and he hath shot the arrow, causing to pass over him.

Então disse ao moço: Corre a buscar as flechas que eu atirar. Correu, pois, o moço; e Jônatas atirou uma flecha, que fez passar além dele.

37 A nd the youth cometh unto the place of the arrow which Jonathan hath shot, and Jonathan calleth after the youth, and saith, `Is not the arrow beyond thee?'

Quando o moço chegou ao lugar onde estava a flecha que Jônatas atirara, gritou-lhe este, dizendo: Não está porventura a flecha para lá de ti?

38 a nd Jonathan calleth after the youth, `Speed, haste, stand not;' and Jonathan's youth gathereth the arrows, and cometh unto his lord.

E tornou a gritar ao moço: Apressa-te, anda, não te demores! E o servo de Jônatas apanhou as flechas, e as trouxe a seu senhor.

39 A nd the youth hath not known anything, only Jonathan and David knew the word.

O moço, porém, nada percebeu; só Jônatas e Davi sabiam do negócio.

40 A nd Jonathan giveth his weapons unto the youth whom he hath, and saith to him, `Go, carry into the city.'

Então Jônatas deu as suas armas ao moço, e lhe disse: Vai, leva-as ã cidade.

41 T he youth hath gone, and David hath risen from Ezel, at the south, and falleth on his face to the earth, and boweth himself three times, and they kiss one another, and they weep one with another, till David exerted himself;

Logo que o moço se foi, levantou-se Davi da banda do sul, e lançou-se sobre o seu rosto em terra, e inclinou-se três vezes; e beijaram-se um ao outro, e choraram ambos, mas Davi chorou muito mais.

42 a nd Jonathan saith to David, `Go in peace, in that we have sworn -- we two -- in the name of Jehovah, saying, Jehovah is between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed -- unto the age;' and he riseth and goeth; and Jonathan hath gone in to the city.

E disse Jônatas a Davi: Vai-te em paz, porquanto nós temos jurado ambos em nome do Senhor, dizendo: O Senhor seja entre mim e ti, e entre a minha descendência e a tua descendência perpetuamente. Então Davi se levantou e partiu; e Jônatas entrou na cidade.
