1 A nd David fleeth from Naioth in Ramah, and cometh, and saith before Jonathan, `What have I done? what mine iniquity? and what my sin before thy father, that he is seeking my life?'

Después huyó David de Naiot de Ramá, y fue a decirle a Jonatán: —¿Qué he hecho yo? ¿Cuál es mi maldad, o cuál mi pecado contra tu padre, para que busque mi muerte?

2 A nd he saith to him, `Far be it! thou dost not die; lo, my father doth not do anything great or small and doth not uncover mine ear; and wherefore doth my father hide from me this thing? this is not.'

Él le dijo: —De ninguna manera; no morirás. Mi padre no hace ninguna cosa, ni grande ni pequeña, que no me la descubra; ¿por qué, pues, me ha de ocultar mi padre este asunto? No será así.

3 A nd David sweareth again, and saith, `Thy father hath certainly known that I have found grace in thine eyes, and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved; and yet, Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, but -- as a step between me and death.'

David volvió a jurar, diciendo: —Tu padre sabe claramente que yo he hallado gracia delante de tus ojos, y dirá: “Que Jonatán no sepa esto, para que no se entristezca.” Pero, ¡vive Jehová y vive tu alma!, que apenas estoy a un paso de la muerte.

4 A nd Jonathan saith to David, `What doth thy soul say? -- and I do it for thee.'

Jonatán dijo a David: —Haré por ti lo que desee tu alma.

5 A nd David saith unto Jonathan, `Lo, the new moon to-morrow; and I do certainly sit with the king to eat; and thou hast sent me away, and I have been hidden in a field till the third evening;

David respondió a Jonatán: —Mañana será la luna nueva, y yo acostumbro sentarme con el rey a comer; pero tú dejarás que me esconda en el campo hasta pasado mañana por la tarde.

6 i f thy father at all look after me, and thou hast said, David asked earnestly of me to run to Beth-Lehem his city, for a sacrifice of the days there for all the family.

Si tu padre hace mención de mí, dirás: “Me rogó mucho que lo dejara ir corriendo a Belén, su ciudad, porque todos los de su familia celebran allá el sacrificio anual.”

7 I f thus he say: Good; peace for thy servant; and if it be very displeasing to him -- know that the evil hath been determined by him;

Si él dijera: “Está bien”, entonces tendrá paz tu siervo; pero si se enoja, sabrás que por su parte está decretada mi perdición.

8 a nd thou hast done kindness, to thy servant, for into a covenant of Jehovah thou hast brought thy servant with thee; -- and if there is in me iniquity, put thou me to death; and unto thy father, why is this -- thou dost bring me in?'

Harás, pues, misericordia con tu siervo, ya que has hecho a tu siervo contraer un pacto contigo ante Jehová; si hay maldad en mí, mátame tú, pues no hay necesidad de llevarme hasta tu padre.

9 A nd Jonathan saith, `Far be it from thee! for I certainly do not know that the evil hath been determined by my father to come upon thee, and I do not declare it to thee.'

Jonatán le dijo: —Nunca te suceda tal cosa; antes bien, si me entero que mi padre ha determinado hacerte mal, ¿no te lo avisaría yo?

10 A nd David saith unto Jonathan, `Who doth declare to me? or what thy father doth answer thee sharply?'

Dijo entonces David a Jonatán: —¿Quién me avisará si tu padre te responde ásperamente?

11 A nd Jonathan saith unto David, `Come, and we go out into the field;' and they go out both of them into the field.

Jonatán dijo a David: —Ven, salgamos al campo. Y salieron ambos al campo.

12 A nd Jonathan saith unto David, `Jehovah, God of Israel -- when I search my father, about time to-morrow the third, and lo, good towards David, and I do not then send unto thee, and have uncovered thine ear --

Entonces dijo Jonatán a David: —¡Jehová, Dios de Israel, sea testigo! Cuando le haya preguntado a mi padre mañana a esta hora, o pasado mañana, si todo marcha bien para con David, entonces te lo haré saber.

13 t hus doth Jehovah do to Jonathan, and thus doth He add; when the evil concerning thee is good to my father, then I have uncovered thine ear, and sent thee away, and thou hast gone in peace, and Jehovah is with thee, as he was with my father;

Pero si mi padre intenta hacerte mal, traiga Jehová sobre Jonatán el peor de los castigos, si no te lo hago saber para que te vayas en paz. Que Jehová esté contigo como estuvo con mi padre.

14 a nd not only while I am alive dost thou do with me the kindness of Jehovah, and I die not,

Si para entonces estoy vivo, usa conmigo la misericordia de Jehová, para que no muera,

15 b ut thou dost not cut off thy kindness from my house unto the age, nor in Jehovah's cutting off the enemies of David, each one from off the face of the ground.'

y nunca apartes tu misericordia de mi casa. Cuando Jehová haya eliminado uno por uno a los enemigos de David de la faz de la tierra, no dejes que el nombre de Jonatán sea quitado de la casa de David.

16 A nd Jonathan covenanteth with the house of David, and Jehovah hath sought from the hand of the enemies of David;

Así hizo Jonatán un pacto con la casa de David, diciendo: «Demándelo Jehová de manos de los enemigos de David.»

17 a nd Jonathan addeth to cause David to swear, because he loveth him, for with the love of his own soul he hath loved him.

Y Jonatán hizo jurar a David otra vez, porque lo amaba, lo amaba como a sí mismo.

18 A nd Jonathan saith to him, `To-morrow new moon, and thou hast been looked after, for thy seat is looked after;

Luego le dijo Jonatán: —Mañana es nueva luna y tú serás echado de menos, porque tu asiento estará vacío.

19 a nd on the third day thou dost certainly come down, and hast come in unto the place where thou wast hidden in the day of the work, and hast remained near the stone Ezel.

Estarás, pues, tres días, y luego descenderás y vendrás al lugar donde estabas escondido el día que ocurrió esto mismo, y esperarás junto a la piedra de Ezel.

20 ` And I shoot three of the arrows at the side, sending out for myself at a mark;

Yo tiraré tres flechas hacia aquel lado, como ejercitándome al blanco.

21 a nd lo, I send the youth: Go, find the arrows. If I at all say to the youth, Lo, the arrows on this side of thee -- take them, -- then come thou, for peace for thee, and there is nothing; Jehovah liveth.

Luego enviaré al criado, diciéndole: “Ve, busca las flechas.” Si digo al criado: “Ahí están las flechas, más acá de ti, tómalas”, tú vendrás, porque todo va bien para ti y nada malo sucede, ¡vive Jehová!

22 A nd if thus I say to the young man, Lo, the arrows beyond thee, -- go, for Jehovah hath sent thee away;

Pero si yo digo al muchacho: “Allí están las flechas, más allá de ti”, vete, porque Jehová quiere que te vayas.

23 a s to the thing which we have spoken, I and thou, lo, Jehovah between me and thee -- unto the age.'

En cuanto al asunto de que tú y yo hemos hablado, esté Jehová entre nosotros dos para siempre.

24 A nd David is hidden in the field, and it is the new moon, and the king sitteth down by the food to eat,

Se escondió, pues, David en el campo, y cuando llegó la nueva luna, se sentó el rey a la mesa, para comer.

25 a nd the king sitteth on his seat, as time by time, on a seat by the wall, and Jonathan riseth, and Abner sitteth at the side of Saul, and David's place is looked after.

El rey se sentó en su silla, como solía, en el asiento junto a la pared. Jonatán se levantó, se sentó Abner al lado de Saúl, y el lugar de David quedó vacío.

26 A nd Saul hath not spoken anything on that day, for he said, `It an accident; he is not clean -- surely not clean.'

Pero aquel día Saúl no dijo nada, porque pensaba: «Le habrá acontecido algo y no está limpio; de seguro no está purificado.»

27 A nd it cometh to pass on the second morrow of the new moon, that David's place is looked after, and Saul saith unto Jonathan his son, `Wherefore hath the son of Jesse not come in, either yesterday or to-day, unto the food?'

Al siguiente día, el segundo día de la nueva luna, aconteció que el asiento de David se quedó también vacío. Y Saúl dijo a su hijo Jonatán: —¿Por qué no ha venido a comer hoy ni ayer el hijo de Isaí?

28 A nd Jonathan answereth Saul, `David hath been earnestly asked of me unto Beth-Lehem,

Jonatán respondió a Saúl: —David me pidió encarecidamente que lo dejara ir a Belén.

29 a nd he saith, Send me away, I pray thee, for a family sacrifice we have in the city, and my brother himself hath given command to me, and now, if I have found grace in thine eyes, let me go away, I pray thee, and see my brethren; therefore he hath not come unto the table of the king.'

Me dijo: “Te ruego que me dejes ir, porque nuestra familia celebra sacrificio en la ciudad y mi hermano me lo ha demandado; por lo tanto, si he hallado gracia a tus ojos, permíteme ir ahora para visitar a mis hermanos.” Por esto no ha venido a la mesa del rey.

30 A nd the anger of Saul burneth against Jonathan, and he saith to him, `Son of a perverse rebellious woman! have I not known that thou art fixing on the son of Jesse to thy shame, and to the shame of the nakedness of thy mother?

Entonces se encendió la ira de Saúl contra Jonatán, y le dijo: —Hijo de la perversa y rebelde, ¿acaso no sé yo que tú has elegido al hijo de Isaí para vergüenza tuya y vergüenza de la madre que te dio a luz?

31 f or all the days that the son of Jesse liveth on the ground thou art not established, thou and thy kingdom; and now, send and bring him unto me, for he a son of death.'

Porque todo el tiempo que el hijo de Isaí viva sobre la tierra, ni tú ni tu reino estarán firmes. Así que manda ahora a buscarlo y tráemelo, porque ha de morir.

32 A nd Jonathan answereth Saul his father, and saith unto him, `Why is he put to death? what hath he done?'

Jonatán respondió a su padre Saúl, y le dijo: —¿Por qué morirá? ¿Qué ha hecho?

33 A nd Saul casteth the javelin at him to smite him, and Jonathan knoweth that it hath been determined by his father to put David to death.

Entonces Saúl le arrojó una lanza para herirlo; de donde comprendió Jonatán que su padre estaba resuelto a matar a David.

34 A nd Jonathan riseth from the table in the heat of anger, and hath not eaten food on the second day of the new moon, for he hath been grieved for David, for his father put him to shame.

Se levantó Jonatán de la mesa con exaltada ira y no comió nada el segundo día de la nueva luna; pues estaba afligido a causa de David, porque su padre lo había ofendido.

35 A nd it cometh to pass in the morning, that Jonathan goeth out into the field for the appointment with David, and a little youth with him.

Al otro día, de mañana, salió Jonatán al campo, con un muchacho pequeño, a la hora acordada con David.

36 A nd he saith to his youth, `Run, find, I pray thee, the arrows which I am shooting;' the youth is running, and he hath shot the arrow, causing to pass over him.

Y dijo al muchacho: «Corre y busca las flechas que yo tire.» Mientras el muchacho iba corriendo, él tiraba la flecha de modo que pasara más allá de él.

37 A nd the youth cometh unto the place of the arrow which Jonathan hath shot, and Jonathan calleth after the youth, and saith, `Is not the arrow beyond thee?'

Al llegar el muchacho donde estaba la flecha que Jonatán había tirado, Jonatán le gritaba diciendo: —¿No está la flecha más allá de ti?

38 a nd Jonathan calleth after the youth, `Speed, haste, stand not;' and Jonathan's youth gathereth the arrows, and cometh unto his lord.

Y siguió gritando Jonatán tras el muchacho: —Corre, date prisa, no te pares. El muchacho de Jonatán recogió las flechas y volvió adonde estaba su señor.

39 A nd the youth hath not known anything, only Jonathan and David knew the word.

Pero de nada se enteró el muchacho; solamente Jonatán y David sabían de lo que se trataba.

40 A nd Jonathan giveth his weapons unto the youth whom he hath, and saith to him, `Go, carry into the city.'

Luego dio Jonatán sus armas a su muchacho, y le dijo: «Vete y llévalas a la ciudad.»

41 T he youth hath gone, and David hath risen from Ezel, at the south, and falleth on his face to the earth, and boweth himself three times, and they kiss one another, and they weep one with another, till David exerted himself;

Cuando el muchacho se marchó, David se levantó del lado del sur y se inclinó tres veces postrándose hasta la tierra. Se besaron el uno al otro y lloraron juntos, pero David lloró más.

42 a nd Jonathan saith to David, `Go in peace, in that we have sworn -- we two -- in the name of Jehovah, saying, Jehovah is between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed -- unto the age;' and he riseth and goeth; and Jonathan hath gone in to the city.

Jonatán dijo entonces a David: «Vete en paz, porque ambos hemos jurado en nombre de Jehová, diciendo: “Que Jehová esté entre tú y yo, entre tu descendencia y mi descendencia, para siempre.”» Se levantó David y se fue; y Jonatán volvió a la ciudad.
