1 A nd the war is long between the house of Saul and the house of David, and David is going on and strong, and the house of Saul are going on and weak.

2 A nd there are born to David sons in Hebron, and his first-born is Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess,

3 a nd his second Chileab, of Abigail wife of Nabal the Carmelite, and the third Absalom son of Maacah daughter of Talmai king of Geshur,

4 a nd the fourth Adonijah son of Haggith, and the fifth Shephatiah son of Abital,

5 a nd the sixth Ithream, of Eglah wife of David; these have been born to David in Hebron.

6 A nd it cometh to pass, in the war being between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner hath been strengthening himself in the house of Saul,

7 a nd Saul hath a concubine, and her name Rizpah daughter of Aiah, and saith unto Abner, `Wherefore hast thou gone in unto the concubine of my father?'

Había tenido Saúl una concubina llamada Rizpa, hija de Aja. E Is-boset dijo a Abner: —¿Por qué te has llegado a la concubina de mi padre?

8 A nd it is displeasing to Abner exceedingly, because of the words of Ish-Bosheth, and he saith, `The head of a dog I -- that in reference to Judah to-day I do kindness with the house of Saul thy father, unto his brethren, and unto his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David -- that thou chargest against me iniquity concerning the woman to-day?

Abner se enojó mucho por las palabras de Is-boset, y le dijo: —¿Acaso soy un perro al servicio de Judá? Hasta hoy he tenido misericordia con la casa de Saúl, tu padre, con sus hermanos y con sus amigos, y no te he entregado en manos de David; ¿y ahora tú me acusas de haber pecado con esta mujer?

9 t hus doth God to Abner, and thus He doth add to him, surely as Jehovah hath sworn to David -- surely so I do to him:

Traiga Dios sobre Abner el peor de los castigos, si no hago como Jehová ha jurado a David,

10 t o cause the kingdom to pass over from the house of Saul, and to raise up the throne of David over Israel, and over Judah, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba.'

que trasladará el reino de la casa de Saúl, y que confirmará el trono de David sobre Israel y sobre Judá, desde Dan hasta Beerseba.

11 A nd he is not able any more to turn back Abner a word, because of his fearing him.

Is-boset no fue capaz de responder una palabra a Abner, porque le temía.

12 A nd Abner sendeth messengers unto David for himself, saying, `Whose the land?' saying, `Make thy covenant with me, and lo, my hand with thee, to bring round unto thee all Israel.'

Entonces envió Abner mensajeros a David para que de su parte le dijeran: «¿De quién es la tierra?» Y también: «Haz pacto conmigo, y mi mano estará contigo para que vuelva a ti todo Israel.»

13 A nd he saith, `Good -- I make with thee a covenant; only, one thing I am asking of thee, that is, Thou dost not see my face, except thou dost first bring in Michal, daughter of Saul in thy coming into see my face.'

David respondió: —Bien; haré pacto contigo, pero una cosa te pido: No te presentes ante mí sin que primero traigas a Mical, la hija de Saúl, cuando vengas a verme.

14 A nd David sendeth messengers unto Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, saying, `Give up my wife Michal, whom I betrothed to myself with a hundred foreskins of the Philistines.'

Después de esto envió David mensajeros a Is-boset hijo de Saúl, diciendo: «Restitúyeme a Mical, mi mujer, la cual desposé por cien prepucios de filisteos.»

15 A nd Ish-Bosheth sendeth, and taketh her from a man, from Phaltiel son of Laish,

Entonces Is-boset mandó a quitársela a su marido Paltiel hijo de Lais.

16 a nd her husband goeth with her, going on and weeping behind her, unto Bahurim, and Abner saith unto him, `Go, turn back;' and he turneth back.

Su marido fue con ella, siguiéndola y llorando hasta Bahurim. Pero Abner le dijo: «¡Anda, vuélvete!» Y él se volvió.

17 A nd the word of Abner was with the elders of Israel, saying, `Heretofore ye have been seeking David for king over you,

Entonces habló Abner con los ancianos de Israel, y les dijo: «Ya hace tiempo que procurabais que David fuera vuestro rey.

18 a nd now, do, for Jehovah hath spoken of David saying, By the hand of David my servant -- to save My people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.'

Ahora, pues, hacedlo; porque Jehová ha dicho a David: “Por medio de mi siervo David libraré a mi pueblo Israel de manos de los filisteos, y de manos de todos sus enemigos.”»

19 A nd Abner speaketh also in the ears of Benjamin, and Abner goeth also to speak in the ears of David in Hebron all that good in the eyes of Israel, and in the eyes of all the house of Benjamin,

Habló también Abner a los de Benjamín, y luego fue a Hebrón a decirle a David todo lo que parecía bien a los de Israel y a toda la casa de Benjamín.

20 a nd Abner cometh in unto David, to Hebron, and with him twenty men, and David maketh for Abner, and for the men who with him, a banquet.

Abner, acompañado de veinte hombres, llegó adonde estaba David en Hebrón, y David le ofreció un banquete a Abner y a los que con él habían venido.

21 A nd Abner saith unto David, `I arise, and go, and gather unto my lord the king the whole of Israel, and they make with thee a covenant, and thou hast reigned over all that thy soul desireth;' and David sendeth away Abner, and he goeth in peace.

Abner dijo a David: —Me levantaré e iré a reunir a todo Israel junto a mi señor, el rey; harán un pacto contigo, y reinarás como lo desea tu corazón. Luego David despidió a Abner, que se fue en paz. Joab mata a Abner

22 A nd lo, the servants of David, and Joab, have come from the troop, and much spoil have brought with them, and Abner is not with David in Hebron, for he hath sent him away, and he goeth in peace;

Llegaron entonces del campo los siervos de David y Joab, y traían consigo un gran botín. Pero Abner no estaba con David en Hebrón, pues ya lo había despedido, y él se había ido en paz.

23 a nd Joab and all the host that with him have come, and they declare to Joab, saying, `Abner son of Ner hath come unto the king, and he sendeth him away, and he goeth in peace.'

Apenas llegó Joab con todo el ejército que lo acompañaba, le avisaron a Joab que Abner hijo de Ner había venido ante el rey, y que se había marchado en paz luego de haberlo despedido.

24 A nd Joab cometh unto the king, and saith, `What hast thou done? lo, Abner hath come unto thee! why this -- thou hast sent him away, and he is really gone?

Entonces Joab se presentó al rey y le dijo: «¿Qué has hecho? Abner vino ante ti; ¿por qué, pues, dejaste que se fuera?

25 T hou hast known Abner son of Ner, that to deceive thee he came, and to know thy going out and thy coming in, and to know all that thou art doing.'

Tú conoces a Abner hijo de Ner. No ha venido sino para engañarte, para enterarse de tus idas y venidas y saber todo lo que tú haces.»

26 A nd Joab goeth out from David, and sendeth messengers after Abner, and they bring him back from the well of Sirah, and David knew not.

Joab salió de la presencia de David y envió mensajeros en busca de Abner, los cuales lo hicieron volver desde el pozo de Sira, sin que David lo supiera.

27 A nd Abner turneth back to Hebron, and Joab turneth him aside unto the midst of the gate to speak with him quietly, and smiteth him there in the fifth -- and he dieth -- for the blood of Asahel his brother.

Cuando Abner volvió a Hebrón, Joab lo llevó aparte, a un lado de la puerta, como para hablar con él en secreto; y allí, en venganza por la muerte de su hermano Asael, lo hirió a la altura de la quinta costilla, y lo mató.

28 A nd David heareth afterwards and saith, `Acquitted I, and my kingdom, by Jehovah, unto the age, from the blood of Abner son of Ner;

Después, cuando David lo supo, dijo: «Yo y mi reino somos inocentes delante de Jehová, para siempre, de la sangre de Abner hijo de Ner.

29 i t doth stay on the head of Joab, and on all the house of his father, and there is not cut off from the house of Joab one having an issue, and leprous, and laying hold on a staff, and falling by a sword, and lacking bread.'

Caiga sobre la cabeza de Joab, y sobre toda la casa de su padre; que nunca falte en la casa de Joab quien padezca flujo de sangre, ni leproso, ni quien ande con bastón, ni quien muera a espada, ni quien padezca hambre.»

30 A nd Joab and Abishai his brother slew Abner because that he put to death Asahel their brother, in Gibeon, in battle.

Así pues, Joab y su hermano Abisai mataron a Abner, porque él había dado muerte a Asael, hermano de ellos, en la batalla de Gabaón.

31 A nd David saith unto Joab, and unto all the people who with him, `Rend your garments, and gird on sackcloth, and mourn before Abner;' and king David is going after the bier.

Después dijo David a Joab y a todo el pueblo que con él estaba: «Rasgad vuestros vestidos, ceñíos de ropas ásperas y haced duelo delante de Abner.» Y el rey David iba detrás del féretro

32 A nd they bury Abner in Hebron, and the king lifteth up his voice, and weepeth at the grave of Abner, and all the people weep;

cuando sepultaron a Abner en Hebrón. Alzando la voz, el rey lloró junto al sepulcro de Abner, y lloró también todo el pueblo.

33 a nd the king lamenteth for Abner, and saith: -- `As the death of a fool doth Abner die?

Entonces el rey entonó este lamento por Abner: «¿Había de morir Abner como muere un villano?

34 T hy hands not bound, And thy feet to fetters not brought nigh! As one falling before sons of evil -- Thou hast fallen!' and all the people add to weep over him.

Tus manos no estaban atadas ni tus pies sujetos con grillos. Caíste como los que caen ante malhechores». Y todo el pueblo volvió a llorar por él.

35 A nd all the people come to cause David to eat bread while yet day, and David sweareth, saying, `Thus doth God to me, and thus He doth add, for -- before the going in of the sun, I taste no bread or any other thing.'

Entonces todo el pueblo vino a persuadir a David para que comiera antes que acabara el día. Pero David juró diciendo: «Traiga Dios sobre mí el peor de los castigos, si antes que se ponga el sol pruebo yo pan o cualquiera otra cosa.»

36 A nd all the people have discerned, and it is good in their eyes, as all that the king hath done is good in the eyes of all the people;

Todo el pueblo lo supo y le agradó; pues todo lo que el rey hacía agradaba a todo el pueblo.

37 a nd all the people know, even all Israel, in that day, that it hath not been from the king -- to put to death Abner son of Ner.

Y supo aquel día todo el pueblo y todo Israel, que el rey no había tenido participación en la muerte de Abner hijo de Ner.

38 A nd the king saith unto his servants, `Do ye not know that a prince and a great one hath fallen this day in Israel?

También dijo el rey a sus siervos: «¿No sabéis que un príncipe y un grande ha caído hoy en Israel?

39 a nd I to-day tender, and an anointed king: and these men, sons of Zeruiah, too hard for me; Jehovah doth recompense to the doer of the evil according to his evil.'

Aunque ungido rey, me siento débil hoy; pero estos hombres, los hijos de Sarvia, son más duros que yo. ¡Que Jehová le pague al que mal hace conforme a su maldad!»
