1 A nd the Philistines are fighting against Israel, and the men of Israel flee from the face of the Philistines, and fall wounded in mount Gilboa,

Los filisteos, pues, pelearon contra Israel, y los de Israel, huyendo ante los filisteos, cayeron muertos en el monte Gilboa.

2 a nd the Philistines follow Saul and his sons, and the Philistines smite Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, sons of Saul.

Los filisteos siguieron de cerca a Saúl y a sus hijos, y mataron a Jonatán, a Abinadab y a Malquisúa, hijos de Saúl.

3 A nd the battle is hard against Saul, and the archers find him -- men with bow -- and he is pained greatly by the archers;

La batalla arreció contra Saúl; lo alcanzaron los flecheros y tuvo mucho miedo de ellos.

4 a nd Saul saith to the bearer of his weapons, `Draw thy sword, and pierce me with it, lest they come -- these uncircumcised -- and have pierced me, and rolled themselves on me;' and the bearer of his weapons hath not been willing, for he is greatly afraid, and Saul taketh the sword, and falleth upon it.

Entonces dijo Saúl a su escudero: «Saca tu espada y traspásame con ella, para que no vengan estos incircuncisos a traspasarme y burlarse de mí.» Pero su escudero no quería, pues tenía gran temor. Tomó entonces Saúl su propia espada y se echó sobre ella.

5 A nd the bearer of his weapons seeth that Saul dead, and he falleth -- he also -- on his sword, and dieth with him;

Al ver que Saúl había muerto, su escudero se echó también sobre su espada y murió junto con él.

6 a nd Saul dieth, and three of his sons, and the bearer of his weapons, also all his men, on that day together.

Así murió Saúl aquel día, junto con sus tres hijos, su escudero, y todos sus hombres.

7 A nd they see -- the men of Israel, who beyond the valley, and who beyond the Jordan -- that the men of Israel have fled, and that Saul and his sons have died, and they forsake the cities and flee, and Philistines come in, and dwell in them.

Los de Israel que estaban al otro lado del valle y al otro lado del Jordán, al ver que Israel había huido y que Saúl y sus hijos habían muerto, abandonaron sus ciudades y huyeron. Luego vinieron los filisteos y habitaron en ellas.

8 A nd it cometh to pass on the morrow, that the Philistines come to strip the wounded, and they find Saul and his three sons fallen on mount Gilboa,

Aconteció al siguiente día que, al llegar los filisteos a despojar a los muertos, hallaron a Saúl y a sus tres hijos tendidos en el monte Gilboa.

9 a nd they cut off his head, and strip off his weapons, and send into the land of the Philistines round about, to proclaim tidings the house of their idols, and the people;

Le cortaron la cabeza y lo despojaron de las armas. Entonces enviaron mensajeros por toda la tierra de los filisteos para que llevaran las buenas noticias al templo de sus ídolos y al pueblo.

10 a nd they place his weapons the house of Ashtaroth, and his body they have fixed on the wall of Beth-Shan.

Pusieron sus armas en el templo de Astarot y colgaron su cuerpo en el muro de Bet-sán.

11 A nd they hear regarding it -- the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead -- that which the Philistines have done to Saul,

Cuando los de Jabes de Galaad se enteraron de lo que habían hecho los filisteos con Saúl,

12 a nd all the men of valour arise, and go all the night, and take the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, from the wall of Beth-Shan, and come in to Jabesh, and burn them there,

todos los hombres valientes se levantaron y, caminando toda aquella noche, quitaron el cuerpo de Saúl y los cuerpos de sus hijos del muro de Bet-sán, y llevándolos a Jabes los quemaron allí.

13 a nd they take their bones, and bury under the tamarisk in Jabesh, and fast seven days.

Tomaron sus huesos, los sepultaron debajo de un árbol en Jabes y ayunaron siete días.
