1 ` Give ear, O heavens, and I speak; And thou dost hear, O earth, sayings of my mouth!

«Escuchad, cielos, y hablaré; oiga la tierra los dichos de mi boca.

2 D rop as rain doth My doctrine; Flow as dew doth My sayings; As storms on the tender grass, And as showers on the herb,

Goteará como la lluvia mi enseñanza; destilará como el rocío mi razonamiento, como la llovizna sobre la grama, como las gotas sobre la hierba.

3 F or the Name of Jehovah I proclaim, Ascribe ye greatness to our God!

»Proclamaré el nombre de Jehová: ¡engrandeced a nuestro Dios!

4 T he Rock! -- perfect His work, For all His ways just; God of stedfastness, and without iniquity: Righteous and upright He.

Él es la Roca, cuya obra es perfecta, porque todos sus caminos son rectos. Es un Dios de verdad y no hay maldad en él; es justo y recto.

5 I t hath done corruptly to Him; Their blemish is not His sons', A generation perverse and crooked!

»La corrupción no es suya; de sus hijos es la mancha, generación torcida y perversa.

6 T o Jehovah do ye act thus, O people foolish and not wise? Is not He thy father -- thy possessor? He made thee, and doth establish thee.

¿Así pagáis a Jehová, pueblo loco e ignorante? ¿No es él tu padre, que te creó? Él te hizo y te estableció.

7 R emember days of old -- Understand the years of many generations -- Ask thy father, and he doth tell thee; Thine elders, and they say to thee:

»Acuérdate de los tiempos antiguos, considera los años de muchas generaciones; pregunta a tu padre, y él te lo contará; a tus ancianos, y ellos te lo dirán.

8 I n the Most High causing nations to inherit, In His separating sons of Adam -- He setteth up the borders of the peoples By the number of the sons of Israel.

Cuando el Altísimo hizo heredar a las naciones, cuando hizo dividir a los hijos de los hombres, estableció los límites de los pueblos según el número de los hijos de Israel.

9 F or Jehovah's portion His people, Jacob the line of His inheritance.

Porque la porción de Jehová es su pueblo; Jacob, la heredad que le tocó.

10 H e findeth him in a land -- a desert, And in a void -- a howling wilderness, He turneth him round -- He causeth him to understand -- He keepeth him as the apple of His eye.

Lo halló en tierra de desierto, en yermo de horrible soledad; lo rodeó, lo instruyó, lo guardó como a la niña de su ojo.

11 A s an eagle waketh up its nest, Over its young ones fluttereth, Spreadeth its wings -- taketh them, Beareth them on its pinions; --

como el águila que excita su nidada, revoloteando sobre sus pollos, así extendió sus alas, lo tomó, y lo llevó sobre sus plumas.

12 J ehovah alone doth lead him, And there is no strange god with him.

»Jehová solo lo guió, y con él no hubo dios extraño.

13 H e maketh him ride on high places of earth, And he eateth increase of the fields, And He maketh him suck honey from a rock, And oil out of the flint of a rock;

Lo hizo subir sobre las alturas de la tierra, comió los frutos del campo, lo alimentó con miel de la peña y con aceite del duro pedernal,

14 B utter of the herd, and milk of the flock, With fat of lambs, and rams, sons of Bashan, And he-goats, with fat of kidneys of wheat; And of the blood of the grape thou dost drink wine!

con mantequilla de vacas y leche de ovejas; con grasa de corderos y carneros de Basán, y también machos cabríos; con lo mejor del trigo, y de la sangre de la uva bebiste vino.

15 A nd Jeshurun waxeth fat, and doth kick: Thou hast been fat -- thou hast been thick, Thou hast been covered. And he leaveth God who made him, And dishonoureth the Rock of his salvation.

»Pero engordó Jesurún, y tiró coces (engordaste, te cubriste de grasa); entonces abandonó al Dios que lo hizo y menospreció la Roca de su salvación.

16 T hey make Him zealous with strangers, With abominations they make Him angry.

Provocaron sus celos con dioses ajenos, y su ira con abominaciones.

17 T hey sacrifice to demons -- no god! Gods they have not known -- New ones -- from the vicinity they came; Not feared them have your fathers!

Sacrificaron a los demonios, y no a Dios; a dioses que no habían conocido, a nuevos dioses venidos de cerca, que no habían temido vuestros padres.

18 T he Rock that begat thee thou forgettest, And neglectest God who formeth thee.

»De la Roca que te creó te olvidaste; te has olvidado de Dios, tu creador.

19 A nd Jehovah seeth and despiseth -- For the provocation of His sons and His daughters.

Lo vio Jehová, y se encendió su ira por el menosprecio de sus hijos y de sus hijas.

20 A nd He saith: I hide My face from them, I see what their latter end; For a froward generation they, Sons in whom is no stedfastness.

Y dijo: “Esconderé de ellos mi rostro, veré cuál será su fin; porque son una generación perversa, hijos infieles.

21 T hey have made Me zealous by `no-god,' They made Me angry by their vanities; And I make them zealous by `no-people,' By a foolish nation I make them angry.

Ellos provocaron mis celos con lo que no es Dios; me irritaron con sus ídolos. Yo también provocaré sus celos con un pueblo que no es pueblo, los irritaré con una nación insensata.

22 F or a fire hath been kindled in Mine anger, And it burneth unto Sheol -- the lowest, And consumeth earth and its increase, And setteth on fire foundations of mountains.

Porque el fuego de mi ira se ha encendido y arderá hasta las profundidades del seol; devorará la tierra y sus frutos, y abrasará los fundamentos de los montes.

23 I gather upon them evils, Mine arrows I consume upon them.

Yo amontonaré males sobre ellos; emplearé en ellos mis flechas.

24 E xhausted by famine, And consumed by heat, and bitter destruction. And the teeth of beasts I send upon them, With poison of fearful things of the dust.

Quedarán extenuados por el hambre, consumidos por la fiebre ardiente y la peste maligna. Diente de fieras enviaré también sobre ellos, con veneno de serpientes de la tierra.

25 W ithout bereave doth the sword, And at the inner-chambers -- fear, Both youth and virgin, Suckling with man of grey hair.

Por fuera desolará la espada, y dentro de las casas el espanto; tanto al joven como a la muchacha, al niño de pecho como al hombre cano.

26 I have said: I blow them away, I cause their remembrance to cease from man;

Yo había dicho que los esparciría lejos, que borraría su recuerdo de en medio de los hombres,

27 I f not -- the anger of an enemy I fear, Lest their adversaries know -- Lest they say, Our hand is high, And Jehovah hath not wrought all this.

pero temí la jactancia del enemigo, el envanecimiento de sus adversarios, no sea que digan: ‘Nuestra mano prevalece y ha hecho todo esto, y no Jehová.’”

28 F or a nation lost to counsels they, And there is no understanding in them.

»Porque son nación privada de consejos, y no hay en ellos entendimiento.

29 I f they were wise -- They deal wisely this; They attend to their latter end:

¡Ojalá fueran sabios, comprendieran esto y se dieran cuenta del fin que los espera!

30 H ow doth one pursue a thousand, And two cause a myriad to flee! If not -- that their rock hath sold them, And Jehovah hath shut them up?

¿Cómo podría perseguir uno a mil, y dos hacer huir a diez mil, si su Roca no los hubiera vendido y Jehová no los hubiera entregado?

31 F or not as our Rock their rock, (And our enemies judges!)

Porque la roca de ellos no es como nuestra Roca, y aun nuestros enemigos son de ello testigos.

32 F or of the vine of Sodom their vine, And of the fields of Gomorrah; Their grapes grapes of gall -- They have bitter clusters;

Porque de la vid de Sodoma es la vid de ellos, y de los campos de Gomorra; las uvas de ellos son uvas ponzoñosas, racimos muy amargos tienen.

33 T he poison of dragons their wine And the fierce venom of asps.

Veneno de serpientes es su vino, y ponzoña cruel de áspides.

34 I s it not laid up with Me? Sealed among My treasures?

»¿No tengo yo esto guardado conmigo, sellado en mis tesoros?

35 M ine vengeance and recompense, At the due time -- doth their foot slide; For near is a day of their calamity, And haste do things prepared for them.

Mía es la venganza y la retribución; a su tiempo su pie resbalará, porque el día de su aflicción está cercano y lo que les está preparado se apresura.

36 F or Jehovah doth judge His people, And for His servants doth repent Himself. For He seeth -- the going away of power, And none is restrained and left.

»Sí, Jehová juzgará a su pueblo, y por amor de sus siervos se arrepentirá, cuando vea que la fuerza pereció, y que no queda ni siervo ni libre.

37 A nd He hath said, Where their gods -- The rock in which they trusted;

Entonces dirá: “¿Dónde están sus dioses, la roca en que se refugiaban,

38 W hich the fat of their sacrifices do eat, They drink the wine of their libation! Let them arise and help you, Let it be for you a hiding-place!

que comían la grasa de sus sacrificios y bebían el vino de sus libaciones?” ¡Que se levanten y os ayuden! ¡Que vengan y os defiendan!

39 S ee ye, now, that I -- I He, And there is no god with Me: I put to death, and I keep alive; I have smitten, and I heal; And there is not from My hand a deliverer,

Ved ahora que yo, yo soy, y no hay dioses conmigo; yo hago morir y yo hago vivir, yo hiero y yo sano, y no hay quien pueda librarse de mis manos.

40 F or I lift up unto the heavens My hand, And have said, I live -- to the age!

Porque yo alzaré a los cielos mi mano, y diré: ¡Vivo yo para siempre!

41 I f I have sharpened the brightness of My sword, And My hand doth lay hold on judgment, I turn back vengeance to Mine adversaries, And to those hating Me -- I repay!

Cuando afile mi reluciente espada y mi mano empuñe el juicio, tomaré venganza de mis enemigos y daré su retribución a los que me aborrecen.

42 I make drunk Mine arrows with blood, And My sword devoureth flesh, From the blood of the pierced and captive, From the head of the freemen of the enemy.

Embriagaré de sangre mis flechas, y mi espada devorará carne; sangre de muertos y cautivos, cabezas de jefes enemigos.

43 S ing ye nations -- his people, For the blood of His servants He avengeth, And vengeance He turneth back on His adversaries, And hath pardoned His land -- His people.'

»¡Alabad, naciones, a su pueblo, porque él vengará la sangre de sus siervos, tomará venganza de sus enemigos, y hará expiación por la tierra de su pueblo!»

44 A nd Moses cometh and speaketh all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he and Hoshea son of Nun;

Moisés, acompañado por Josué hijo de Nun, fue y recitó todas las palabras de este cántico a oídos del pueblo.

45 a nd Moses finisheth to speak all these words unto all Israel,

Cuando acabó Moisés de recitar todas estas palabras ante todo Israel,

46 a nd saith unto them, `Set your heart to all the words which I am testifying against you to-day, that ye command your sons to observe to do all the words of this law,

les dijo: «Aplicad vuestro corazón a todas las palabras que yo os testifico hoy, para que mandéis a vuestros hijos que cuiden de cumplir todas las palabras de esta Ley.

47 f or it not a vain thing for you, for it your life, and by this thing ye prolong days on the ground whither ye are passing over the Jordan to possess it.'

Porque no os es cosa vana; es vuestra vida, pues por medio de esta Ley haréis prolongar vuestros días sobre la tierra a la que vais para tomarla en posesión tras pasar el Jordán.» Se le permite a Moisés contemplar la tierra de Canaán

48 A nd Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, in this self-same day, saying,

Aquel mismo día Jehová habló a Moisés y le dijo:

49 ` Go up unto this mount Abarim, mount Nebo, which in the land of Moab, which on the front of Jericho, and see the land of Canaan which I am giving to the sons of Israel for a possession;

«Sube a estos montes de Abarim, al monte Nebo, situado en la tierra de Moab que está frente a Jericó, y mira la tierra de Canaán, que yo doy por heredad a los hijos de Israel.

50 a nd die in the mount whither thou art going up, and be gathered unto thy people, as Aaron thy brother hath died in the mount Hor, and is gathered unto his people:

Muere allí en el monte al cual subes, y te reunirás a tu pueblo, así como murió Aarón, tu hermano, en el monte Hor, y se reunió a su pueblo.

51 ` Because ye trespassed against me in the midst of the sons of Israel at the waters of Meribath-Kadesh, the wilderness of Zin -- because ye sanctified Me not in the midst of the sons of Israel;

Por cuanto pecasteis contra mí en medio de los hijos de Israel, en las aguas de Meriba, en Cades, en el desierto de Zin; porque no me santificasteis en medio de los hijos de Israel.

52 b ut over-against thou seest the land, and thither thou dost not go in, unto the land which I am giving to the sons of Israel.'

Verás, por tanto, delante de ti la tierra, pero no entrarás allá, en la tierra que doy a los hijos de Israel.»
