1 A nd Naomi her mother-in-law saith to her, `My daughter, do not I seek for thee rest, that it may be well with thee?

Un día le dijo su suegra Noemí: —Hija mía, ¿no debo buscarte un hogar para que te vaya bien?

2 a nd now, is not Boaz of our acquaintance, with whose young women thou hast been? lo, he is winnowing the threshing-floor of barley to-night,

¿No es Booz nuestro pariente, con cuyas criadas has estado? Esta noche él avienta la parva de las cebadas.

3 a nd thou hast bathed, and anointed thyself, and put thy garments upon thee, and gone down to the threshing-floor; let not thyself be known to the man till he complete to eat and to drink;

Te lavarás, pues, te perfumarás, te pondrás tu mejor vestido, e irás a la era; pero no te presentarás al hombre hasta que él haya acabado de comer y de beber.

4 a nd it cometh to pass when he lieth down, that thou hast known the place where he lieth down, and hast gone in, and uncovered his feet, and lain down, -- and he doth declare to thee that which thou dost do.'

Cuando se acueste, fíjate en qué lugar se acuesta, ve, descubre sus pies, y acuéstate allí; él mismo te dirá lo que debas hacer.

5 A nd she saith unto her, `All that thou sayest -- I do.'

Rut respondió: —Haré todo lo que tú me mandes.

6 A nd she goeth down the threshing-floor, and doth according to all that her mother-in-law commanded her

Descendió, pues, al campo, e hizo todo lo que su suegra le había mandado.

7 A nd Boaz eateth and drinketh, and his heart is glad; and he goeth in to lie down at the end of the heap; and she cometh in gently, and uncovereth his feet, and lieth down.

Cuando Booz hubo comido y bebido, y su corazón estaba contento, se retiró a dormir a un lado del montón. Un rato más tarde vino ella calladamente, le descubrió los pies y se acostó.

8 A nd it cometh to pass, at the middle of the night, that the man trembleth, and turneth himself, and lo, a woman is lying at his feet.

A la medianoche se estremeció aquel hombre, se dio vuelta, y descubrió que una mujer estaba acostada a sus pies.

9 A nd he saith, `Who thou?' and she saith, `I Ruth thy handmaid, and thou hast spread thy skirt over thy handmaid, for thou a redeemer.'

Entonces dijo: —¿Quién eres? Ella respondió: —Soy Rut, tu sierva; extiende el borde de tu capa sobre tu sierva, por cuanto eres pariente cercano.

10 A nd he saith, `Blessed thou of Jehovah, my daughter; thou hast dealt more kindly at the latter end than at the beginning -- not to go after the young men, either poor or rich.

Dijo Booz: —Jehová te bendiga, hija mía; tu segunda bondad ha sido mayor que la primera, pues no has ido en busca de algún joven, pobre o rico.

11 A nd now, my daughter, fear not, all that thou sayest I do to thee, for all the gate of my people doth know that thou a virtuous woman.

Ahora, pues, no temas, hija mía; haré contigo como tú digas, pues toda la gente de mi pueblo sabe que eres mujer virtuosa.

12 A nd now, surely, true, that I a redeemer, but also there is a redeemer nearer than I.

Aunque es cierto que soy pariente cercano, hay un pariente más cercano que yo.

13 L odge to night, and it hath been in the morning, if he doth redeem thee, well: he redeemeth; and if he delight not to redeem thee, then I have redeemed thee -- I; Jehovah liveth! lie down till the morning.'

Pasa aquí la noche, y cuando sea de día, si él te redime, bien, que te redima; pero si no quiere redimirte, yo te redimiré. Jehová es testigo. Descansa, pues, hasta la mañana.

14 A nd she lieth down at his feet till the morning, and riseth before one doth discern another; and he saith, `Let it not be known that the woman hath come into the floor.'

Después que durmió a sus pies hasta la mañana, se levantó Rut antes que los hombres pudieran reconocerse unos a otros; porque Booz había dicho: «Que no se sepa que una mujer ha venido al campo.»

15 A nd he saith, `Give the covering which on thee, and keep hold on it;' and she keepeth hold on it, and he measureth six of barley, and layeth on her; and he goeth into the city.

Después él le pidió: «Quítate el manto con que te cubres y sujétalo bien.» Mientras ella lo sujetaba, midió Booz seis medidas de cebada y se las puso encima. Entonces ella se fue a la ciudad.

16 A nd she cometh in unto her mother-in-law, and she saith, `Who thou, my daughter?' and she declareth to her all that the man hath done to her.

Cuando llegó a casa de su suegra, ésta le preguntó: —¿Qué hay, hija mía? Rut le contó todo cuanto le había ocurrido con aquel hombre,

17 A nd she saith, `These six of barley he hath given to me, for he said, Thou dost not go in empty unto thy mother-in-law.'

y añadió: —Me dio estas seis medidas de cebada, y me dijo: “Para que no vuelvas a la casa de tu suegra con las manos vacías.”

18 A nd she saith, `Sit still, my daughter, till thou dost know how the matter falleth, for the man doth not rest except he hath completed the matter to-day.'

Entonces Noemí dijo: —Espérate, hija mía, hasta que sepas cómo se resuelve esto; porque aquel hombre no descansará hasta que concluya el asunto hoy.
