1 A nd Naomi her mother-in-law saith to her, `My daughter, do not I seek for thee rest, that it may be well with thee?

Depois lhe disse Noêmi, sua sogra: Minha filha, não te hei de buscar descanso, para que fiques bem?

2 a nd now, is not Boaz of our acquaintance, with whose young women thou hast been? lo, he is winnowing the threshing-floor of barley to-night,

Ora pois, não é Boaz, com cujas moças estiveste, de nossa parentela. Eis que esta noite ele vai joeirar a cevada na eira.

3 a nd thou hast bathed, and anointed thyself, and put thy garments upon thee, and gone down to the threshing-floor; let not thyself be known to the man till he complete to eat and to drink;

Lava-te pois, unge-te, veste os teus melhores vestidos, e desce ã eira; porém não te dês a conhecer ao homem, até que tenha acabado de comer e beber.

4 a nd it cometh to pass when he lieth down, that thou hast known the place where he lieth down, and hast gone in, and uncovered his feet, and lain down, -- and he doth declare to thee that which thou dost do.'

E quando ele se deitar, notarás o lugar em que se deita; então entrarás, descobrir-lhe-ás os pés e te deitarás, e ele te dirá o que deves fazer.

5 A nd she saith unto her, `All that thou sayest -- I do.'

Respondeu-lhe Rute: Tudo quanto me disseres, farei.

6 A nd she goeth down the threshing-floor, and doth according to all that her mother-in-law commanded her

Então desceu ã eira, e fez conforme tudo o que sua sogra lhe tinha ordenado.

7 A nd Boaz eateth and drinketh, and his heart is glad; and he goeth in to lie down at the end of the heap; and she cometh in gently, and uncovereth his feet, and lieth down.

Havendo, pois, Boaz comido e bebido, e estando já o seu coração alegre, veio deitar-se ao pé de uma meda; e vindo ela de mansinho, descobriu-lhe os pés, e se deitou.

8 A nd it cometh to pass, at the middle of the night, that the man trembleth, and turneth himself, and lo, a woman is lying at his feet.

Ora, pela meia-noite, o homem estremeceu, voltou-se, e viu uma mulher deitada aos seus pes.

9 A nd he saith, `Who thou?' and she saith, `I Ruth thy handmaid, and thou hast spread thy skirt over thy handmaid, for thou a redeemer.'

E perguntou ele: Quem és tu? Ao que ela respondeu: Sou Rute, tua serva; estende a tua capa sobre a tua serva, porque tu és o remidor.

10 A nd he saith, `Blessed thou of Jehovah, my daughter; thou hast dealt more kindly at the latter end than at the beginning -- not to go after the young men, either poor or rich.

Então disse ele: Bendita sejas tu do Senhor, minha filha; mostraste agora mais bondade do que dantes, visto que após nenhum mancebo foste, quer pobre quer rico.

11 A nd now, my daughter, fear not, all that thou sayest I do to thee, for all the gate of my people doth know that thou a virtuous woman.

Agora, pois, minha filha, não temas; tudo quanto disseres te farei, pois toda a cidade do meu povo sabe que és mulher virtuosa.

12 A nd now, surely, true, that I a redeemer, but also there is a redeemer nearer than I.

Ora, é bem verdade que eu sou remidor, porém há ainda outro mais chegado do que eu.

13 L odge to night, and it hath been in the morning, if he doth redeem thee, well: he redeemeth; and if he delight not to redeem thee, then I have redeemed thee -- I; Jehovah liveth! lie down till the morning.'

Fica-te aqui esta noite, e será que pela manhã, se ele cumprir para contigo os deveres de remidor, que o faça; mas se não os quiser cumprir, então eu o farei tão certamente como vive o Senhor; deita-te até pela manhã.

14 A nd she lieth down at his feet till the morning, and riseth before one doth discern another; and he saith, `Let it not be known that the woman hath come into the floor.'

Ficou, pois, deitada a seus pés até pela manhã, e levantou-se antes que fosse possível a uma pessoa reconhecer outra; porquanto ele disse: Não se saiba que uma mulher veio ã eira.

15 A nd he saith, `Give the covering which on thee, and keep hold on it;' and she keepeth hold on it, and he measureth six of barley, and layeth on her; and he goeth into the city.

Disse mais: Traze aqui a capa com que te cobres, e segura-a. Segurou-a, pois, e ele as mediu seis medidas de cevada, e lhas pôs no ombro. Então ela foi para a cidade.

16 A nd she cometh in unto her mother-in-law, and she saith, `Who thou, my daughter?' and she declareth to her all that the man hath done to her.

Quando chegou ã sua sogra, esta lhe perguntou: Como te houveste, minha filha? E ela lhe contou tudo quanto aquele homem lhe fizera.

17 A nd she saith, `These six of barley he hath given to me, for he said, Thou dost not go in empty unto thy mother-in-law.'

Disse mais: Estas seis medidas de cevada ele mas deu, dizendo: Não voltarás vazia para tua sogra.

18 A nd she saith, `Sit still, my daughter, till thou dost know how the matter falleth, for the man doth not rest except he hath completed the matter to-day.'

Então disse Noêmi: Espera, minha filha, até que saibas como irá terminar o caso; porque aquele homem não descansará enquanto não tiver concluído hoje este negócio.
