1 T he burden of Babylon that Isaiah son of Amoz hath seen:

Oráculo acerca de Babilônia, que Isaías, filho de Amoz, recebeu numa visão.

2 ` On a high mountain lift ye up an ensign, Raise the voice to them, wave the hand, And they go in to the openings of nobles.

Alçai uma bandeira sobre o monte escalvado; levantai a voz para eles; acenai-lhes com a mão, para que entrem pelas portas dos príncipes.

3 I have given charge to My sanctified ones, Also I have called My mighty ones for Mine anger, Those rejoicing at Mine excellency.'

Eu dei ordens aos meus consagrados; sim, já chamei os meus valentes para executarem a minha ira, os que exultam arrogantemente.

4 A voice of a multitude in the mountains, A likeness of a numerous people, A voice of noise from the kingdoms of nations who are gathered, Jehovah of Hosts inspecting a host of battle!

Eis um tumulto sobre os montes, como o de grande multidão! Eis um tumulto de reinos, de nações congregadas! O Senhor dos exércitos passa em revista o exército para a guerra.

5 T hey are coming in from a land afar off, From the end of the heavens, Jehovah and the instruments of His indignation, To destroy all the land.

Vêm duma terra de longe, desde a extremidade do céu, o Senhor e os instrumentos da sua indignação, para destruir toda aquela terra.

6 H owl ye, for near the day of Jehovah, As destruction from the Mighty it cometh.

Uivai, porque o dia do Senhor está perto; virá do Todo-Poderoso como assolação.

7 T herefore, all hands do fail, And every heart of man doth melt.

Pelo que todas as mãos se debilitarão, e se derreterá o coração de todos os homens.

8 A nd they have been troubled, Pains and pangs they take, As a travailing woman they are pained, A man at his friend they marvel, The appearance of flames -- their faces!

E ficarão desanimados; e deles se apoderarão dores e ais; e se angustiarão, como a mulher que está de parto; olharão atônitos uns para os outros; os seus rostos serão rostos flamejantes.

9 L o, the day of Jehovah doth come, Fierce, with wrath, and heat of anger, To make the land become a desolation, Yea, its sinning ones He destroyeth from it.

Eis que o dia do Senhor vem, horrendo, com furor e ira ardente; para pôr a terra em assolação e para destruir do meio dela os seus pecadores.

10 F or the stars of the heavens, and their constellations, Cause not their light to shine, Darkened hath been the sun in its going out, And the moon causeth not its light to come forth.

Pois as estrelas do céu e as suas constelações não deixarão brilhar a sua luz; o sol se escurecerá ao nascer, e a lua não fará resplandecer a sua luz.

11 A nd I have appointed on the world evil, And on the wicked their iniquity, And have caused to cease the excellency of the proud, And the excellency of the terrible I make low.

E visitarei sobre o mundo a sua maldade, e sobre os ímpios a sua iniqüidade; e farei cessar a arrogância dos atrevidos, e abaterei a soberba dos cruéis.

12 I make man more rare than fine gold, And a common man than pure gold of Ophir.

Farei que os homens sejam mais raros do que o ouro puro, sim mais raros do que o ouro fino de Ofir.

13 T herefore the heavens I cause to tremble, And the earth doth shake from its place, In the wrath of Jehovah of Hosts, And in a day of the heat of his anger.

Pelo que farei estremecer o céu, e a terra se movera do seu lugar, por causa do furor do Senhor dos exércitos, e por causa do dia da sua ardente ira.

14 A nd it hath been, as a roe driven away, And as a flock that hath no gatherer, Each unto his people -- they turn, And each unto his land -- they flee.

E como a corça quando é perseguida, e como a ovelha que ninguém recolhe, assim cada um voltará para o seu povo, e cada um fugirá para a sua terra.

15 E very one who is found is thrust through, And every one who is added falleth by sword.

Todo o que for achado será traspassado; e todo o que for apanhado, cairá ã espada.

16 A nd their sucklings are dashed to pieces before their eyes, Spoiled are their houses, and their wives lain with.

E suas crianças serão despedaçadas perante os seus olhos; as suas casas serão saqueadas, e as suas mulheres violadas.

17 L o, I am stirring up against them the Medes, Who silver esteem not, And gold -- they delight not in it.

Eis que suscitarei contra eles os medos, que não farão caso da prata, nem tampouco no ouro terão prazer.

18 A nd bows dash young men to pieces, And the fruit of the womb they pity not, On sons their eye hath no pity.

E os seus arcos despedaçarão aos mancebos; e não se compadecerão do fruto do ventre; os seus olhos não pouparão as crianças.

19 A nd Babylon, the beauty of kingdoms, The glory, the excellency of the Chaldeans, Hath been as overthrown by God, With Sodom and with Gomorrah.

E Babilônia, a glória dos reinos, o esplendor e o orgulho dos caldeus, será como Sodoma e Gomorra, quando Deus as transtornou.

20 S he doth not sit for ever, Nor continueth unto many generations, Nor doth Arab pitch tent there, And shepherds lie not down there.

Nunca mais será habitada, nem nela morará alguém de geração em geração; nem o árabe armará ali a sua tenda; nem tampouco os pastores ali farão deitar os seus rebanhos.

21 A nd Ziim have lain down there, And full have been their houses of howlings, And dwelt there have daughters of an ostrich, And goats do skip there.

Mas as feras do deserto repousarão ali, e as suas casas se encherão de horríveis animais; e ali habitarão as avestruzes, e os sátiros pularão ali.

22 A nd Aiim have responded in his forsaken habitations, And dragons in palaces of delight, And near to come her time, And her days are not drawn out!

As hienas uivarão nos seus castelos, e os chacais nos seus palácios de prazer; bem perto está o seu tempo, e os seus dias não se prolongarão.
