1 A nd Balaam saith unto Balak, `Build for me in this seven altars, and make ready for me in this seven bullocks and seven rams.'

Disse Balaão a Balaque: Edifica-me aqui sete altares e prepara-me aqui sete novilhos e sete carneiros.

2 A nd Balak doth as Balaam hath spoken, and Balak -- Balaam also -- offereth a bullock and a ram on the altar,

Fez, pois, Balaque como Balaão dissera; e Balaque e Balaão ofereceram um novilho e um carneiro sobre cada altar.

3 a nd Balaam saith to Balak, `Station thyself by thy burnt-offering and I go on, it may be Jehovah doth come to meet me, and the thing which He sheweth me -- I have declared to thee;' and he goeth a high place.

Então Balaão disse a Balaque: Fica aqui em pé junto ao teu holocausto, e eu irei; porventura o Senhor me sairá ao encontro, e o que ele me mostrar, eu to direi. E foi a um lugar alto.

4 A nd God cometh unto Balaam, and he saith unto Him, `The seven altars I have arranged, and I offer a bullock and a ram on the altar;'

E quando Deus se encontrou com Balaão, este lhe disse: Preparei os sete altares, e ofereci um novilho e um carneiro sobre cada altar.

5 a nd Jehovah putteth a word in the mouth of Balaam, and saith, `Turn back unto Balak, and thus thou dost speak.'

Então o senhor pôs uma palavra na boca de Balaão, e disse: Volta para Balaque, e assim falarás.

6 A nd he turneth back unto him, and lo, he is standing by his burnt-offering, he and all the princes of Moab.

Voltou, pois, para ele, e eis que estava em pé junto ao seu holocausto, ele e todos os príncipes de Moabe.

7 A nd he taketh up his simile, and saith: `From Aram he doth lead me -- Balak king of Moab; From mountains of the east: Come -- curse for me Jacob, And come -- be indignant Israel.

Então proferiu Balaão a sua parábola, dizendo: De Arã me mandou trazer Balaque, o rei de Moabe, desde as montanhas do Oriente, dizendo: Vem, amaldiçoa-me a Jacó; vem, denuncia a Israel.

8 W hat -- do I pierce? -- God hath not pierced! And what -- am I indignant? -- Jehovah hath not been indignant!

Como amaldiçoarei a quem Deus não amaldiçoou? e como denunciarei a quem o Senhor não denunciou?

9 F or from the top of rocks I see it, And from heights I behold it; Lo a people! alone it doth tabernacle, And among nations doth not reckon itself.

Pois do cume das penhas o vejo, e dos outeiros o contemplo; eis que é um povo que habita só, e entre as nações não será contado.

10 W ho hath counted the dust of Jacob, And the number of the fourth of Israel? Let me die the death of upright ones, And let my last end be like his!'

Quem poderá contar o pó de Jacó e o número da quarta parte de Israel? Que eu morra a morte dos justos, e seja o meu fim como o deles.

11 A nd Balak saith unto Balaam, `What hast thou done to me? to pierce mine enemies I have taken thee -- and lo, thou hast certainly blessed;'

Então disse Balaque a Balaão: Que me fizeste? Chamei-te para amaldiçoares os meus inimigos, e eis que inteiramente os abençoaste.

12 a nd he answereth and saith, `That which Jehovah doth put in my mouth -- it do I not take heed to speak?'

E ele respondeu: Porventura não terei cuidado de falar o que o Senhor me puser na boca?

13 A nd Balak saith unto him, `Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, whence thou dost see it, only its extremity thou dost see, and all of it thou dost not see, and pierce it for me thence;'

Então Balaque lhe disse: Rogo-te que venhas comigo a outro lugar, donde o poderás ver; verás somente a última parte dele, mas a todo ele não verás; e amaldiçoa-mo dali.

14 a nd he taketh him the field of Zophim, unto the top of Pisgah, and buildeth seven altars, and offereth a bullock and a ram on the altar.

Assim o levou ao campo de Zofim, ao cume de Pisga; e edificou sete altares, e ofereceu um novilho e um carneiro sobre cada altar.

15 A nd he saith unto Balak, `Station thyself here by thy burnt-offering, and I -- I meet there;'

Disse Balaão a Balaque: Fica aqui em pé junto ao teu holocausto, enquanto eu vou ali ao encontro do Senhor.

16 a nd Jehovah cometh unto Balaam, and setteth a word in his mouth, and saith, `Turn back unto Balak, and thus thou dost speak.'

E, encontrando-se o Senhor com Balaão, pôs-lhe na boca uma palavra, e disse: Volta para Balaque, e assim falarás.

17 A nd he cometh unto him, and lo, he is standing by his burnt-offering, and the princes of Moab with him, and Balak saith to him: `What hath Jehovah spoken?'

Voltou, pois, para ele, e eis que estava em pé junto ao seu holocausto, e os príncipes de Moabe com ele. Perguntou-lhe, pois, Balaque: Que falou o Senhor?

18 A nd he taketh up his simile, and saith: `Rise, Balak, and hear; Give ear unto me, son of Zippor!

Então proferiu Balaão a sua parábola, dizendo: Levanta-te, Balaque, e ouve; escuta-me, filho de Zipor;

19 G od not a man -- and lieth, And a son of man -- and repenteth! Hath He said -- and doth He not do ? And spoken -- and doth He not confirm it?

Deus não é homem, para que minta; nem filho do homem, para que se arrependa. Porventura, tendo ele dito, não o fará? ou, havendo falado, não o cumprirá?

20 L o, to bless I have received: Yea, He blesseth, and I not reverse it.

Eis que recebi mandado de abençoar; pois ele tem abençoado, e eu não o posso revogar.

21 H e hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, Nor hath He seen perverseness in Israel; Jehovah his God with him, And a shout of a king in him.

Não se observa iniqüidade em Jacó, nem se vê maldade em Israel; o senhor seu Deus é com ele, no meio dele se ouve a aclamação dum rei;

22 G od is bringing them out from Egypt, As the swiftness of a Reem is to him;

É Deus que os vem tirando do Egito; as suas forças são como as do boi selvagem.

23 F or no enchantment against Jacob, Nor divination against Israel, At the time it is said of Jacob and Israel, What hath God wrought!

Contra Jacó, pois, não há encantamento, nem adivinhação contra Israel. Agora se dirá de Jacó e de Israel: Que coisas Deus tem feito!

24 L o, the people as a lioness riseth, And as a lion he lifteth himself up, He lieth not down till he eateth prey, And blood of pierced ones doth drink.'

Eis que o povo se levanta como leoa, e se ergue como leão; não se deitará até que devore a presa, e beba o sangue dos que foram mortos:

25 A nd Balak saith unto Balaam, `Neither pierce it at all, nor bless it at all;'

Então Balaque disse a Balaão: Nem o amaldiçoes, nem tampouco o abençoes:

26 a nd Balaam answereth and saith unto Balak, `Have I not spoken unto thee, saying, All that Jehovah speaketh -- it I do?'

Respondeu, porém, Balaão a Balaque: Não te falei eu, dizendo: Tudo o que o Senhor falar, isso tenho de fazer?

27 A nd Balak saith unto Balaam, `Come, I pray thee, I take thee unto another place; it may be it is right in the eyes of God -- to pierce it for me from thence.'

Tornou Balaque a Balaão: Vem agora, e te levarei a outro lugar; porventura parecerá bem aos olhos de Deus que dali mo amaldiçoes.

28 A nd Balak taketh Balaam to the top of Peor, which is looking on the front of the wilderness,

Então Balaque levou Balaão ao cume de Peor, que dá para o deserto.

29 a nd Balaam saith unto Balak, `Build for me in this seven altars, and make ready for me in this seven bullocks and seven rams;'

E Balaão disse a Balaque: Edifica-me aqui sete altares, e prepara-me aqui sete novilhos e sete carneiros.

30 a nd Balak doth as Balaam said, and he offereth a bullock and a ram on an altar.

Balaque, pois, fez como dissera Balaão; e ofereceu um novilho e um carneiro sobre cada altar.
