1 B low ye a trumpet in Zion, And shout ye in My holy hill, Tremble do all inhabitants of the earth, For coming is the day of Jehovah, for near!

Tocai a trombeta em Sião, e dai o alarma no meu santo monte. Tremam todos os moradores da terra, porque vem vindo o dia do Senhor; já está perto;

2 A day of darkness and thick darkness, A day of cloud and thick darkness, As darkness spread on the mountains, A people numerous and mighty, Like it there hath not been from of old, And after it there is not again -- till the years of generation and generation.

dia de trevas e de escuridão, dia de nuvens e de negrume! Como a alva, está espalhado sobre os montes um povo grande e poderoso, qual nunca houve, nem depois dele haverá pelos anos adiante, de geração em geração:

3 B efore it consumed hath fire, And after it burn doth a flame, As the garden of Eden the land before it, And after it a wilderness -- a desolation! And also an escape there hath not been to it,

Diante dele um fogo consome, e atrás dele uma chama abrasa; a terra diante dele é como o jardim do Édem mas atrás dele um desolado deserto; sim, nada lhe escapa.

4 A s the appearance of horses its appearance, And as horsemen, so they run.

A sua aparência é como a de cavalos; e como cavaleiros, assim correm.

5 A s the noise of chariots, on the tops of the mountains they skip, As the noise of a flame of fire devouring stubble, As a mighty people set in array for battle.

Como o estrondo de carros sobre os cumes dos montes vão eles saltando, como o ruído da chama de fogo que consome o restelho, como um povo poderoso, posto em ordem de batalha.

6 F rom its face pained are peoples, All faces have gathered paleness.

Diante dele estão angustiados os povos; todos os semblantes empalidecem.

7 A s mighty ones they run, As men of war they go up a wall, And each in his own ways they do go, And they embarrass not their paths.

Correm como valentes, como homens de guerra sobem os muros; e marcham cada um nos seus caminhos e não se desviam da sua fileira.

8 A nd each his brother they press not, Each in his way they go on, If by the missile they fall, they are not cut off.

Não empurram uns aos outros; marcham cada um pelo seu carreiro; abrem caminho por entre as armas, e não se detêm.

9 I n the city they run to and fro, On the wall they run, Into houses they go up by the windows, They go in as a thief.

Pulam sobre a cidade, correm pelos muros; sobem nas casas; entram pelas janelas como o ladrão.

10 A t their face trembled hath the earth, Shaken have the heavens, Sun and moon have been black, And stars have gathered up their shining.

Diante deles a terra se abala; tremem os céus; o sol e a lua escurecem, e as estrelas retiram o seu resplendor.

11 A nd Jehovah hath given forth His voice before His force, For very great His camp, For mighty the doer of His word, For great the day of Jehovah -- very fearful, And who doth bear it?

E o Senhor levanta a sua voz diante do seu exército, porque muito grande é o seu arraial; e poderoso é quem executa a sua ordem; pois o dia do Senhor é grande e muito terrível, e quem o poderá suportar?

12 A nd also now -- an affirmation of Jehovah, Turn ye back unto Me with all your heart, And with fasting, and with weeping, And with lamentation.

Todavia ainda agora diz o Senhor: Convertei-vos a mim de todo o vosso coração; e isso com jejuns, e com choro, e com pranto.

13 A nd rend your heart, and not your garments, And turn back unto Jehovah your God, For gracious and merciful He, Slow to anger, and abundant in kindness, And He hath repented concerning the evil.

E rasgai o vosso coração, e não as vossas vestes; e convertei-vos ao Senhor vosso Deus; porque ele é misericordioso e compassivo, tardio em irar-se e grande em benignidade, e se arrepende do mal.

14 W ho knoweth -- He doth turn back, Yea -- He hath repented, And He hath left behind Him a blessing, A present and libation of Jehovah your God?

Quem sabe se não se voltará e se arrependerá, e deixará após si uma bênção, em oferta de cereais e libação para o Senhor vosso Deus?

15 B low ye a trumpet in Zion, Sanctify a fast -- proclaim a restraint.

Tocai a trombeta em Sião, santificai um jejum, convocai uma assembléia solene;

16 G ather the people, sanctify an assembly, Assemble the aged, Gather infants and sucklings of the breasts, Go out let a bridegroom from his inner chamber, And a bride out of her closet.

congregai o povo, santificai a congregação, ajuntai os anciãos, congregai os meninos, e as crianças de peito; saia o noivo da sua recâmara, e a noiva do seu tálamo.

17 B etween the porch and the altar weep let the priests, ministrants of Jehovah, And let them say: `Have pity, O Jehovah, on Thy people, And give not Thy inheritance to reproach, To the ruling over them of nations, Why do they say among peoples, Where their God?'

Chorem os sacerdotes, ministros do Senhor, entre o alpendre e o altar, e digam: Poupa a teu povo, ó Senhor, e não entregues a tua herança ao opróbrio, para que as nações façam escárnio dele. Por que diriam entre os povos: Onde está o seu Deus?

18 A nd let Jehovah be zealous for His land, And have pity on His people.

Então o Senhor teve zelo da sua terra, e se compadeceu do seu povo.

19 L et Jehovah answer and say to His people, `Lo, I am sending to you the corn, And the new wine, and the oil, And ye have been satisfied with it, And I make you no more a reproach among nations,

E o Senhor, respondende, disse ao seu povo: Eis que vos envio o trigo, o vinho e o azeite, e deles sereis fartos; e vos não entregarei mais ao opróbrio entre as nações;

20 A nd the northern I put far off from you, And have driven him unto a land dry and desolate, With his face unto the eastern sea, And his rear unto the western sea, And come up hath his stink, And come up doth his stench, For he hath exerted himself to work.

e removerei para longe de vós o exército do Norte, e o lançarei para uma terra seca e deserta, a sua frente para o mar oriental, e a sua retaguarda para o mar ocidental; subirá o seu mau cheiro, e subirá o seu fedor, porque ele tem feito grandes coisas.

21 D o not fear, O land! joy and rejoice, For Jehovah hath exerted Himself to work.

Não temas, ó terra; regozija-te e alegra-te, porque o Senhor tem feito grandes coisas.

22 D o not fear, O cattle of the field! For sprung forth have pastures of a wilderness, For the tree hath borne its fruit, Fig-tree and vine have given their strength!

Não temais, animais do campo; porque os pastos do deserto já reverdecem, porque a árvore dá o seu fruto, e a vide e a figueira dão a sua força.

23 A nd ye sons of Zion, joy and rejoice, In Jehovah your God, For He hath given to you the Teacher for righteousness, And causeth to come down to you a shower, Sprinkling and gathered -- in the beginning.

Alegrai-vos, pois, filhos de Sião, e regozijai-vos no Senhor vosso Deus; porque ele vos dá em justa medida a chuva temporã, e faz descer abundante chuva, a temporã e a serôdia, como dantes.

24 A nd full have been the floors pure corn, And overflown have the presses new wine and oil.

E as eiras se encherão de trigo, e os lagares trasbordarão de mosto e de azeite.

25 A nd I have recompensed to you the years That consume did the locust, the cankerworm, And the caterpillar, and the palmer-worm, My great force that I did send against you.

Assim vos restituirei os anos que foram consumidos pela locusta voadora, a devoradora, a destruidora e a cortadora, o meu grande exército que enviei contra vós.

26 A nd ye have eaten, eating and being satisfied, And have praised the name of Jehovah your God, Who hath dealt with you wonderfully, And not ashamed are My people to the age.

Comereis abundantemente e vos fartareis, e louvareis o nome do Senhor vosso Deus, que procedeu para convosco maravilhosamente; e o meu povo nunca será envergonhado.

27 A nd ye have known that in the midst of Israel I, And I Jehovah your God, and there is none else, And not ashamed are My people to the age.

Vós, pois, sabereis que eu estou no meio de Israel, e que eu sou o Senhor vosso Deus, e que não há outro; e o meu povo nunca mais será envergonhado.

28 A nd it hath come to pass afterwards, I do pour out My Spirit on all flesh, And prophesied have your sons and your daughters, Your old men do dream dreams, Your young men do see visions.

Acontecerá depois que derramarei o meu Espírito sobre toda a carne; vossos filhos e vossas filhas profetizarão, os vossos anciãos terão sonhos, os vossos mancebos terão visões;

29 A nd also on the men-servants, and on the maid-servants, In those days I do pour out My Spirit.

e também sobre os servos e sobre as servas naqueles dias derramarei o meu Espírito.

30 A nd I have given wonders in the heavens, and in the earth, Blood and fire, and columns of smoke.

E mostrarei prodígios no céu e na terra, sangue e fogo, e colunas de fumaça.

31 T he sun is turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, Before the coming of the day of Jehovah, The great and the fearful.

O sol se converterá em trevas, e a lua em sangue, antes que venha o grande e terrível dia do Senhor.

32 A nd it hath come to pass, Every one who calleth in the name of Jehovah is delivered, For in mount Zion and in Jerusalem there is an escape, As Jehovah hath said, And among the remnants whom Jehovah is calling!

E há de ser que todo aquele que invocar o nome do Senhor será salvo; pois no monte Sião e em Jerusalém estarão os que escaparem, como disse o Senhor, e entre os sobreviventes aqueles que o Senhor chamar.
