1 B low ye a trumpet in Zion, And shout ye in My holy hill, Tremble do all inhabitants of the earth, For coming is the day of Jehovah, for near!

Toquen la trompeta en Sión; den la alarma en mi santo monte; tiemblen todos los habitantes de la tierra, porque el día del Señor viene, y ya se acerca.

2 A day of darkness and thick darkness, A day of cloud and thick darkness, As darkness spread on the mountains, A people numerous and mighty, Like it there hath not been from of old, And after it there is not again -- till the years of generation and generation.

Será un día de tinieblas y de oscuridad, un día de nubes y sombras. Se aproxima un ejército pueblo grande y poderoso, como nunca antes lo hubo ni lo habrá después durante muchas generaciones. Viene como el alba, cuando se extiende sobre los montes.

3 B efore it consumed hath fire, And after it burn doth a flame, As the garden of Eden the land before it, And after it a wilderness -- a desolation! And also an escape there hath not been to it,

Lo precede un fuego consumidor, y llamas destructoras cierran su marcha. Antes de que pasen, la tierra es como el huerto de Edén; pero después de que han pasado queda la tierra como un desierto deshabitado. ¡Nadie puede librarse de ellos!

4 A s the appearance of horses its appearance, And as horsemen, so they run.

Su aspecto y su carrera es semejante al de los caballos y al de los soldados de caballería.

5 A s the noise of chariots, on the tops of the mountains they skip, As the noise of a flame of fire devouring stubble, As a mighty people set in array for battle.

Cuando saltan sobre las cumbres de los montes, su estruendo es como el de los carros de guerra, como el crujir de las llama de fuego cuando consumen la hojarasca, ¡como el de un ejército poderoso y dispuesto para la batalla!

6 F rom its face pained are peoples, All faces have gathered paleness.

Ante ellos, los pueblos se llenan de miedo y todos los rostros palidecen.

7 A s mighty ones they run, As men of war they go up a wall, And each in his own ways they do go, And they embarrass not their paths.

Corren como soldados, trepan por los muros como guerreros; cada uno de ellos mantiene la marcha, sin cambiar el rumbo.

8 A nd each his brother they press not, Each in his way they go on, If by the missile they fall, they are not cut off.

Ninguno estorba a su compañero; cada uno mantiene el paso; ¡no hay espada que los detenga!

9 I n the city they run to and fro, On the wall they run, Into houses they go up by the windows, They go in as a thief.

Como ladrones, caen sobre la ciudad, corren por la muralla, trepan por las casas, ¡entran por las ventanas!

10 A t their face trembled hath the earth, Shaken have the heavens, Sun and moon have been black, And stars have gathered up their shining.

Ante ellos, tiembla la tierra y se estremecen los cielos; el sol y la luna se oscurecen, y se apaga el resplandor de las estrellas.

11 A nd Jehovah hath given forth His voice before His force, For very great His camp, For mighty the doer of His word, For great the day of Jehovah -- very fearful, And who doth bear it?

El Señor mismo da las órdenes al frente de su ejército. Muy grandes son sus batallones, y fuertes son los que cumplen la orden. ¡Grande y terrible es el día del Señor! ¿Quién podrá resistir? La misericordia del Señor

12 A nd also now -- an affirmation of Jehovah, Turn ye back unto Me with all your heart, And with fasting, and with weeping, And with lamentation.

Por eso, vuélvanse ya al Señor de todo corazón, y con ayuno, lágrimas y lamentos. —Palabra del Señor.

13 A nd rend your heart, and not your garments, And turn back unto Jehovah your God, For gracious and merciful He, Slow to anger, and abundant in kindness, And He hath repented concerning the evil.

Desgárrense el corazón, no los vestidos, y vuélvanse al Señor su Dios, porque él es misericordioso y clemente, lento para la ira y grande en misericordia, y le pesa castigar.

14 W ho knoweth -- He doth turn back, Yea -- He hath repented, And He hath left behind Him a blessing, A present and libation of Jehovah your God?

Tal vez el Señor su Dios cambie de parecer y deje bendiciones tras de sí, es decir, trigo y vino para que le presenten ofrendas y libaciones.

15 B low ye a trumpet in Zion, Sanctify a fast -- proclaim a restraint.

¡Toquen la trompeta en Sión! ¡Proclamen ayuno! ¡Convoquen a una asamblea!

16 G ather the people, sanctify an assembly, Assemble the aged, Gather infants and sucklings of the breasts, Go out let a bridegroom from his inner chamber, And a bride out of her closet.

¡Reúnan al pueblo y santifiquen la reunión! ¡Junten a los ancianos y a los niños de pecho! ¡Que salgan de la cámara nupcial el novio y la novia!

17 B etween the porch and the altar weep let the priests, ministrants of Jehovah, And let them say: `Have pity, O Jehovah, on Thy people, And give not Thy inheritance to reproach, To the ruling over them of nations, Why do they say among peoples, Where their God?'

Y ustedes los sacerdotes, ministros del Señor, lloren entre la entrada y el altar, y digan: «Señor, ¡perdona a tu pueblo! No los entregues al oprobio, ni dejes que las naciones los dominen! ¡No permitas que entre los pueblos se diga que nuestro Dios nos ha abandonado!»

18 A nd let Jehovah be zealous for His land, And have pity on His people.

Entonces el Señor mostrará su amor por su tierra, y perdonará a su pueblo.

19 L et Jehovah answer and say to His people, `Lo, I am sending to you the corn, And the new wine, and the oil, And ye have been satisfied with it, And I make you no more a reproach among nations,

El Señor responderá y dirá a su pueblo: «Voy a enviarles pan, y mosto y aceite, para que coman hasta saciarse, y nunca más volveré a entregarlos al oprobio entre las naciones.

20 A nd the northern I put far off from you, And have driven him unto a land dry and desolate, With his face unto the eastern sea, And his rear unto the western sea, And come up hath his stink, And come up doth his stench, For he hath exerted himself to work.

Haré que esa gente del norte se aleje de ustedes, y los lanzaré a una tierra seca y desierta; su vanguardia la arrojaré hacia el mar oriental, y su retaguardia la echaré al mar occidental. Su hedor putrefacto se esparcirá por los aires, porque yo hago grandes cosas.»

21 D o not fear, O land! joy and rejoice, For Jehovah hath exerted Himself to work.

Y tú, tierra, ¡alégrate y llénate de gozo! No temas, que el Señor hará grandes cosas.

22 D o not fear, O cattle of the field! For sprung forth have pastures of a wilderness, For the tree hath borne its fruit, Fig-tree and vine have given their strength!

Y ustedes, animales del campo, no teman, porque los pastos del desierto volverán a reverdecer, y los árboles, las higueras y las vides volverán a dar su fruto.

23 A nd ye sons of Zion, joy and rejoice, In Jehovah your God, For He hath given to you the Teacher for righteousness, And causeth to come down to you a shower, Sprinkling and gathered -- in the beginning.

Y ustedes también, hijos de Sión, alégrense y llénense de gozo en el Señor su Dios; porque él les ha dado la primera lluvia a su tiempo, y enviará sobre ustedes lluvias tempranas y tardías, como al principio.

24 A nd full have been the floors pure corn, And overflown have the presses new wine and oil.

Las eras se llenarán de trigo, y los lagares rebosarán de vino y aceite.

25 A nd I have recompensed to you the years That consume did the locust, the cankerworm, And the caterpillar, and the palmer-worm, My great force that I did send against you.

Yo les resarciré por los daños que les causaron la oruga, el saltón, el revoltón y la langosta, ese gran ejército que el Señor envió contra ustedes. Derramamiento del espíritu de Dios

26 A nd ye have eaten, eating and being satisfied, And have praised the name of Jehovah your God, Who hath dealt with you wonderfully, And not ashamed are My people to the age.

«Ustedes comerán hasta saciarse, y alabarán mi nombre, pues yo, el Señor su Dios, haré maravillas entre ustedes. Y nunca más mi pueblo será avergonzado.

27 A nd ye have known that in the midst of Israel I, And I Jehovah your God, and there is none else, And not ashamed are My people to the age.

Entonces sabrán ustedes que yo estoy en medio de Israel, y que yo soy el Señor su Dios, y nadie más. Y mi pueblo nunca más será avergonzado.

28 A nd it hath come to pass afterwards, I do pour out My Spirit on all flesh, And prophesied have your sons and your daughters, Your old men do dream dreams, Your young men do see visions.

»Después de esto, derramaré mi espíritu sobre la humanidad entera, y los hijos y las hijas de ustedes profetizarán; los ancianos tendrán sueños, y los jóvenes recibirán visiones.

29 A nd also on the men-servants, and on the maid-servants, In those days I do pour out My Spirit.

»En aquellos días, también sobre los siervos y las siervas derramaré mi espíritu.

30 A nd I have given wonders in the heavens, and in the earth, Blood and fire, and columns of smoke.

Y haré prodigios en el cielo y en la tierra, con sangre y fuego y columnas de humo.»

31 T he sun is turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, Before the coming of the day of Jehovah, The great and the fearful.

El sol se convertirá en tinieblas, y la luna en sangre, antes de que venga el día grande y terrible del Señor.

32 A nd it hath come to pass, Every one who calleth in the name of Jehovah is delivered, For in mount Zion and in Jerusalem there is an escape, As Jehovah hath said, And among the remnants whom Jehovah is calling!

Y todo aquel que invoque el nombre del Señor será salvo, y entre ellos estará el remanente al cual el Señor ha llamado, porque en el monte de Sión y en Jerusalén habrá salvación, tal y como el Señor lo ha dicho.
