1 A nd it cometh to pass when all the kings of the Amorite which beyond the Jordan, towards the sea, and all the kings of the Canaanite which by the sea, hear how that Jehovah hath dried up the waters of the Jordan at the presence of the sons of Israel till their passing over, that their heart is melted, and there hath not been in them any more spirit because of the presence of the sons of Israel.

Los reyes amorreos del otro lado del Jordán se enteraron de que el Señor había secado las aguas del Jordán hasta que todo el pueblo de Israel lo cruzó. También lo supieron los reyes cananeos que habitaban cerca del mar. Ante esta noticia, perdieron el valor y el ánimo por causa de los hijos de Israel.

2 A t that time said Jehovah unto Joshua, `Make for thee knives of flint, and turn back, circumcise the sons of Israel a second time;'

Entonces el Señor le dijo a Josué: «Prepara cuchillos afilados, y vuelve a circuncidar a los hijos de Israel.»

3 a nd Joshua maketh for him knives of flint, and circumciseth the sons of Israel at the height of the foreskins.

Josué preparó los cuchillos y circuncidó a los hijos de Israel en la colina de Aralot.

4 A nd this the thing which Joshua circumciseth: all the people who are coming out of Egypt, who are males, all the men of war have died in the wilderness, in the way, in their coming out of Egypt,

La razón de circuncidarlos fue que todos los varones del pueblo y los hombres de guerra que habían salido de Egipto, habían muerto en el desierto o por el camino.

5 f or all the people who are coming out were circumcised, and all the people who born in the wilderness, in the way, in their coming out from Egypt, they have not circumcised;

Todos aquellos hombres estaban circuncidados, pero no así los que nacieron en el desierto o por el camino.

6 f or forty years have the sons of Israel gone in the wilderness, till all the nation of the men of war who are coming out of Egypt, who hearkened not to the voice of Jehovah, to whom Jehovah hath sworn not to show them the land which Jehovah sware to their fathers to give to us, a land flowing with milk and honey, are consumed;

Los hijos de Israel anduvieron cuarenta años por el desierto, hasta que murieron todos los hombres de guerra que salieron de Egipto por no haber obedecido al Señor. Por eso el Señor les dijo que no verían la tierra que les había prometido a sus padres, una tierra abundante en leche y miel.

7 a nd their sons He raised up in their stead, them hath Joshua circumcised, for they have been uncircumcised, for they have not circumcised them in the way.

Así que Josué circuncidó a los hijos de aquellos hombres, que ahora ocupaban su lugar, pues no habían sido circuncidados en el camino.

8 A nd it cometh to pass when all the nation have completed to be circumcised, that they abide in their places in the camp till their recovering;

Una vez circuncidados, todos los hombres se quedaron en el campamento hasta que sanaron.

9 a nd Jehovah saith unto Joshua, `To-day I have rolled the reproach of Egypt from off you;' and calleth the name of that place Gilgal unto this day.

El Señor le dijo entonces a Josué: «Hoy les he quitado la vergüenza de los egipcios.» Y ese lugar se llama Gilgal hasta el día de hoy.

10 A nd the sons of Israel encamp in Gilgal, and make the passover on the fourteenth day of the month, at evening, in the plains of Jericho;

Los israelitas acamparon en Gilgal, y el día catorce del mes primero por la tarde celebraron la pascua en los llanos de Jericó.

11 a nd they eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow of the passover, unleavened things and roasted, in this self-same day;

Un día después de la pascua comieron de lo que la tierra producía, y de panes sin levadura y de trigo tostado.

12 a nd the manna doth cease on the morrow in their eating of the old corn of the land, and there hath been no more manna to the sons of Israel, and they eat of the increase of the land of Canaan in that year.

Y al día siguiente de que comieron de los productos de la tierra, el maná dejó de caer. Nunca más los hijos de Israel volvieron a tener maná, porque a partir de ese año comieron de lo que la tierra de Canaán producía. Josué y el enviado de Dios

13 A nd it cometh to pass in Joshua's being by Jericho, that he lifteth up his eyes, and looketh, and lo, one standing over-against him, and his drawn sword in his hand, and Joshua goeth unto him, and saith to him, `Art thou for us or for our adversaries?'

Un día en que Josué estaba cerca de Jericó, de pronto levantó la vista y vio delante de él a un hombre con una espada desenvainada en la mano. Se acercó a él y le preguntó: «¿Eres uno de los nuestros, o eres de nuestros enemigos?»

14 A nd He saith, `No, for I Prince of Jehovah's host; now I have come;' and Joshua falleth on his face to the earth, and doth obeisance, and saith to Him, `What is my Lord speaking unto His servant?'

El hombre respondió: «Ni lo uno ni lo otro. Estoy al mando del ejército del Señor, y por eso he venido.» Entonces Josué se inclinó con el rostro en tierra, y lo adoró, mientras decía: «¿Qué órdenes tiene mi Señor para este siervo suyo?»

15 A nd the Prince of Jehovah's host saith unto Joshua, `Cast off thy shoe from off thy foot, for the place on which thou art standing is holy;' and Joshua doth so;

El comandante del ejército del Señor le respondió: «Quítate las sandalias de tus pies, porque estás pisando un lugar sagrado.» Y Josué obedeció.
