1 T o the Overseer. -- By sons of Korah. An Instruction. O God, with our ears we have heard, Our fathers have recounted to us, The work Thou didst work in their days, In the days of old.

Dios nuestro, lo oímos con nuestros oídos, y nuestros padres nos lo contaron: ¡las grandes proezas que, en su favor, realizaste en los días de antaño!

2 T hou, Thy hand, nations hast dispossessed. And Thou dost plant them. Thou afflictest peoples, and sendest them away.

¡Tú mismo desalojaste a las naciones, castigaste duramente a esos pueblos, y a nuestros padres los dejaste echar raíces!

3 F or, not by their sword Possessed they the land, And their arm gave not salvation to them, But Thy right hand, and Thine arm, And the light of Thy countenance, Because Thou hadst accepted them.

Porque no fue la espada lo que les dio posesión de la tierra; ni fue tampoco su brazo lo que les dio la victoria; ¡fue tu mano derecha, fue tu brazo, fue el resplandor de tu rostro, porque en ellos te complacías!

4 T hou He, my king, O God, Command the deliverances of Jacob.

Dios mío, ¡tú eres mi rey! ¡Envía tu salvación al pueblo de Jacob!

5 B y Thee our adversaries we do push, By Thy name tread down our withstanders,

¡Por ti derrotaremos a nuestros enemigos! ¡En tu nombre los hundiremos en el suelo!

6 F or, not in my bow do I trust, And my sword doth not save me.

Yo no confiaría en mis flechas, ni tampoco mi espada podría salvarme;

7 F or Thou hast saved us from our adversaries, And those hating us Thou hast put to shame.

pero tú puedes salvarnos de nuestros enemigos, y poner en vergüenza a los que nos odian.

8 I n God we have boasted all the day, And Thy name to the age we thank. Selah.

¡En ti, Dios nuestro, nos gloriaremos siempre, y nunca dejaremos de alabar tu nombre!

9 I n anger Thou hast cast off and causest us to blush, And goest not forth with our hosts.

Pero nos has abandonado, nos has puesto en vergüenza. Ya no acompañas a nuestros ejércitos.

10 T hou causest us to turn backward from an adversary, And those hating us, Have spoiled for themselves.

Nos has hecho retroceder ante el enemigo, y los que nos aborrecen nos despojan de todo.

11 T hou makest us food like sheep, And among nations Thou hast scattered us.

Has dejado que nos maten como a ovejas, y nos has esparcido entre las naciones.

12 T hou sellest Thy people -- without wealth, And hast not become great by their price.

¡Has vendido a tu pueblo de balde! ¡Nada has ganado con venderlo!

13 T hou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, A scorn and a reproach to our surrounders.

Nos has humillado ante nuestros vecinos; somos motivo de burla para los que nos rodean.

14 T hou makest us a simile among nations, A shaking of the head among peoples.

Has hecho de nosotros la burla de la gente; al vernos, todos mueven burlones la cabeza.

15 A ll the day my confusion before me, And the shame of my face hath covered me.

Todo el tiempo debo encarar mi vergüenza; me abruma no poder dar la cara

16 B ecause of the voice of a reproacher and reviler, Because of an enemy and a self-avenger.

por lo que dicen los que tanto me ofenden, ¡por lo que hacen mis vengativos enemigos!

17 A ll this met us, and we did not forget Thee, Nor have we dealt falsely in Thy covenant.

Aunque todo esto nos ha sucedido, jamás nos hemos olvidado de ti; jamás hemos quebrantado tu pacto.

18 W e turn not backward our heart, Nor turn aside doth our step from Thy path.

Jamás ha decaído nuestro ánimo, ni nos hemos apartado de tus sendas.

19 B ut Thou hast smitten us in a place of dragons, And dost cover us over with death-shade.

¡Pero tú nos arrojaste en cuevas de chacales! ¡Nos cubriste con las sombras de la muerte!

20 I f we have forgotten the name of our God, And spread our hands to a strange God,

Dios nuestro, si nos hubiéramos olvidado de tu nombre, o si hubiéramos rendido culto a otro dios,

21 D oth not God search out this? For He knoweth the secrets of the heart.

¿acaso tú no habrías llegado a saberlo? ¡Si tú conoces los secretos más recónditos!

22 S urely, for Thy sake we have been slain all the day, Reckoned as sheep of the slaughter.

Pero por ti nos matan todo el tiempo; ¡nos consideran ovejas para el matadero!

23 S tir up -- why dost Thou sleep, O Lord? Awake, cast us not off for ever.

¡Despierta, Señor! ¿Por qué duermes? ¡Levántate, no te alejes para siempre!

24 W hy Thy face hidest Thou? Thou forgettest our afflictions and our oppression,

¿Por qué te escondes de nosotros? ¿Por qué te olvidas de la opresión que sufrimos?

25 F or bowed to the dust hath our soul, Cleaved to the earth hath our belly.

Nuestro ánimo se halla por el suelo, ¡nuestros cuerpos se arrastran por la tierra!

26 A rise, a help to us, And ransom us for thy kindness' sake.

¡Levántate, ven a ayudarnos y, por tu gran misericordia, sálvanos!
